DESIGNS BY LIFESTYLE
Recent Review: Change orders were paid in cash outside of construction loan. Problems started when concrete slab fee was increased (after pouring) by 33% (from $30 to $40K) w/out any warning or discussion about alternatives, etc. Builder became irate that I should expect to be advised of this type of change/increase. From that day until we took possession of the house, the builder "nickel and dimed" us to death - at closing we understood that we had @ $3K due from allowances we had not fully used. The builder said that that $ was used to "pay for overruns" - since I had paid cash for all such costs, I challenged that statement. The builder essentially turned and walked away. Various people have advised that this is a very typical "builder behavior" at the end and I may as well get back to living. But I do want anyone who deals w/ Designs by Liestyle to be aware that the builder's charm ends when the first problem arises. Another item discovered during a routine septic inspection (as I am writing this posting!) - the electric line to the septic pump was 230v vs 110v and had not been connected. Fortunately the routine inspection discovered the back up before there was in-house damage. Currently trying to ascertain if this was builder's responsibility.

Harry Finigan Custom Homes
Recent Review: Mr. Finigan was paid a total amount of $16,450.00. With $5,850.00 of that going to a subcontractor for tree, shed and wall removal. $1,200.00 was paid to a sub for digging of the footer. Mr. Finigan incorrectly read the engineering plan for the footer and it cost an additional $1,200 for his error. $1,950.00 was paid to the insurance company which he was reimbursed when we told him we were not going to use him for construction. An additional $1,985.00 was paid to the city of Olmos Park for a building permit on 9/9/09. As of 12/09 Mr. Finigan went to the city and was refunded $1,500 of that permit. Luckily all subs were paid. However, I have not been reimbursed for any of the monies refunded to Mr. Finigan. If you deduct the $8,250 paid to the subs out of the $16,450 I paid Mr. Finigan I am owed $8,250. He refuses to give me this money. We would like to pay Mr. Finigan for what little time he spent on this project. But I find it comical that he has pocked more that the removal of the wall in which he supervised. Thus he made approximately a 100% on a job that was all labor and no material. Stay away from this guy he is a theif.

Robare Custom Homes
Recent Review: After moving to San Antonio, we found the perfect lot in the Hill Country to build our dream home. To build our custom home we interviewed a number of Custom Home Builders and attended numerous "Parade of Home" tours. As a result of a previous bad experience with building a home, we were very particular and extremely critical in our evaluations of potential custom home builders.    Mike Robare offered the very best attributes we were seeking in our builder, i.e. someone who would listen to our ideas and visions for what we wanted and then provide the custom designer elements and building expertise to see it completed.    Working with our vision and Mike's Custom Home Designer Mike helped us develop a house plan that captured all the elements we were looking for in our custom home.  During this design process, Mike was instrumental in adding specific features to the plan that truly makes this home unique. For example, Mike suggested adding an amazing 25 foot stone tower entryway.    In working with Mike throughout the building process, he constantly suggested improvements in the design to capture unique features. From custom ceiling treatments to the circular stone staircase, Mike's vision created an amazing house.    Overcoming the inherent challenges of building a custom home is Mike's greatest strength.  Design problems that caused me sleepless nights he solved with eloquent remedies.  He was always available to help and effectively communicated with us and the construction teams to make sure our vision was implemented correctly.   We have had numerous people tour our home and they all comment on the quality of the workmanship and the design aspects.  We have recommended Mike to a number of people planning to build homes.   After our house was completed, we still communicate with Mike and seek his guidance and recommendations on design elements.  He and his team were great to work with and made the building process a fun and exciting adventure!  Highly recommend!
