Our experience with Carl has been great! We had actually contacted another "handyman" to do the work described above, but we could never get him to answer the phone. We were under the gun to get a new microwave installed before we could have our new granite back splash installed. The appliances were purchased but their delivery was extended so we had to wait for an extra week in order to arrange for any installation. When I checked Angie's List, I read the reviews Carl had, noting that a couple of the reviews did not have favorable "grades", but something told me to go ahead and contact him. When I told him what we needed to have done, he said he could do it so we agreed that he would do the work. On the appointed day, the appliances were to have been delivered between 8 and noon, but never came. We were then told that they would be delivered the same day, but between 1 and 4 pm. Carl said he would be at our home at 4:30 to do the installation. The delivery was actually delayed, again, but before we could call Carl to tell him they wouldn't be here until about 4:45 pm, he knocked on the door. He was polite and engaging and said that he wouldn't mind waiting for the delivery truck. In the meantime, we told him about a couple of other projects that we needed to have done and he said he could do those as well. Once we had the appliances, Carl started to install the microwave but discovered that the wall would have to be reinforced. The area behind the old microwave still had the original tiles on it and we were told that they would have to come down. Because my husband is in a wheelchair, Carl said he would do it and started to dismantle the wall. He ended up having to cut the entire wall out. He told me that he would need to have plywood and a 2x4 so I ran to Home Depot to purchase them. While there, Carl started to put the new dishwasher in and discovered that the old one had not been grounded (by a previous plumber) and that it had not been secured so it would tip if the front portion was loaded with heavy dinner ware. He also discovered that a conversion piece had not been included with the new dishwasher. Once I got home with the wood and the converter, he was able to install both appliances. While he was doing this, and it was getting late, I had some concerns that there would be additional cost because the time of day and the extensive work he needed to do to put in the wall and shore up the dishwasher. I did run and get hamburgers, fries, and drinks, and also let him have the remainder of the plywood he didn't need for the wall. We were astounded that he only charged us $150 for all the work he did. Because we also had a shower control unit that needed to be installed, and Carl said that he needed to add a brace to the back of the dishwasher so it wouldn't tilt, he said that he would return on Sunday morning. On Sunday, Carl came as expected and installed the shower unit. Carl also repaired a piece of molding to a door frame that had been damaged, and completed the fix to the dishwasher. Again, to my surprise, he only charged us $50! Carl will be returning to install a kitchen light when it is delivered and for other projects in the future we are unable to do ourselves. We are extremely delighted to have found Carl and he will be our "go to guy" in the future.
