Recent Review: Fantastic! Manny and his crew went above and beyond our expectations. They did extra things we didn't even ask for but made such a difference in the look of our yard. They hauled everything away, left my gravel walkways raked and reshaped, and even took my neighbors yard clippings away. I'm hiring them to do more work at my house as well. There's only so much honey can do. :) I can recommend them with confidence that you will be thrilled with their work as well.

Recent Review: We could not be more pleased. Modular did a first-rate job from beginning to end. Kenna and Greg were great to work with. We knew pretty much what to expect with each phase of the project. Workmen were careful in working around existing plantings; they cleaned up the site fastidiously at the end of each day; they were always cordial.

Business Description: Bark blowers Inc. was founded by two families in 1985 with a vision to apply the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle philosophy to the timber industry. We wanted to reduce the amount of waste produced by lumber mills by reducing timber byproducts and recycling them to the earth in the form of barkdust. Bark Blowers Inc. was thus developed to help people beautify their landscape with desirable organic products that would naturally return their nutrients to the earth's surface. While wanting to give something back to the earth we also wanted to give something back to our customers. Bark Blowers Inc. was one of the first barkdust companies in the Portland area to develop and build their own blowing systems. The blowing system was developed to save our customers time and money while reducing the need to run wheelbarrows over their landscape.

Reviews in Portland to Spread Gravel

AThe Wall
Very professional group from top to bottom all the way from bidding through completion. Very reasonable in scoping the work to meet customer's needs and budget. Outcome was great - a big improvement for our back yard space!

AGARDENGRAPHICS
Septic system failed. All front yard and back dug up to replace system. Shelly, owner of Garden Graphics, met with me to discuss possibilities and concerns. We agreed on use of arbevitae and rhododendron as well as sod instead of grass seed. Shelly coordinated all work with her two employees; sought my input before completion to be sure it was what I expected. The work was completed within 4 days, including hauling away excess clay soil (left by septic contractor). It was very clean in all areas when completed. For 2 weeks after, Shelly watered the sod and trees daily.

Robert and his team did a great job. They came to my house on time and finished on the same day. The quality of the work is above my expectation. I will definitely contact them next time again.

ACROWLEY LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT Inc.
I had used Crowley's in the past, and knew they could handle my small job quickly.  We had a load of bark blown in, but were unhappy with some areas where we wished we had put walking paths, rather than bark dust. We asked for a bid from Crowley's to "undo" three small bark blown areas and re-do them as walking paths. They arrived as scheduled at 8am. While I went over clarifications with Tim about exactly which areas were to be paths, the other two crew members were already at work scraping back the bark where needed. All three worked efficiently together and they were done with the job by noon. The metal edging they put down is very sturdy and the paths seem solid. The yard looks more upscale with some manicured looking paths in several places, rather than all bark, and it will be much better to be rolling utility carts and mowers over the pathways, rather than through the bark. A nice improvement for not too much money.

CNorthwest Outdoor Living and Landscapes
Bid was mid-range of 6 bids. Contact kept in contact with us from bid to hire point. Contract was specific and gravel path and drainage resolution (French drain) were installed satisfactorily. Retaining wall was to be dry-stack and back filled with "premium soil" using a specific type of stone. The stone used was incorrect, concrete or some material was used to set the stones and the back fill was the material that had been dug up in creation of the path and drainage trench (clay and fill rock!!!). We requested the work be redone but the company rep indicated it would not be worth their time. Also tried to add a charge for removal of the material that had been dug up to create the path and drain. We "accepted" the terms of the company regarding the wall but were unhappy (and weeks later are still digging out the back fill used instead of planting!).

AEarthworks Landscape Service
Brett Kacalek of Earthworks did the original landscape design for our new home about 5 years ago. They also did the basic installation and have done one or two other smaller projects for me in the past. When I decided I needed the stairs installed, there was no hesitation for me about whom to call. Brett came out and immediately understood the "feel" I was after for the project. He provided a complete written bid and I signed a contract. The only "down side" to working with Earthworks is that they're busy, so it can sometimes take quite a while for them to be able to schedule a project, plus they're dependent on the weather, too. However, I received a call a day or two before they were ready to begin work. Brett came out at the beginning to instruct the crew (and ended up putting one of the staircases in a slightly different place than we'd originally planned, which worked out well). The project took two or three days, and the crew did an excellent job. The finished result is perfect. They disturbed a minimum of landscape near the project and they cleaned up after themselves thoroughly.

ALandscape East & West
Landscape East & West did a great job on our extensive landscape project.  The quality of their work was top-notch.  The only challenges were the communication wasn't always seamless, since the sales folk and workers weren't always 100% coordinated.  However, when something didn't go quite the way we wanted, they promptly fixed everything to our satisfaction at no additional cost.  The garden and fence look great now!

AArtistic Landscapes
This is my second time working with Artistic Landscapes. Robert arrived on time for our appointment. He is personable, creative and trustworthy. I described what I thought should happen in my backyard and he gave me ideas that took it over the top. His crews arrived on time everyday and did not have to be watched over to make sure they were doing things correctly. I went to work everyday and his crews did a great job. Any concerns I had, which were nearly nil, Robert addressed promptly or reassured me he had thought of the concern before I did. I would hire this company again in a heartbeat.

This is my 4th project with Robert and his team. I had been always impressed by his passion, confidence, and professionalism in the past projects. This time was also not an exception. I hired him for this project not because I've hired him in the previous projects, but because he gave me the best quote out of four bids I got. I decided to hire him in May, but I needed to wait until September since he was fully booked for a couple of months. At the end of August, he sent me an email to confirm the starting date and the works to be performed. On the first day, Robert picked up paver stones that fits to my backyard and brought the sample. When I saw the stones, I was not quite sure if those were right ones for me. I insisted that I stopped by at the supplier of the stones and took a look at others by myself. It turned out that Robert was right. The color, pattern, size of the stones he picked up was the best one for me. He had a big smile on his face when I told him that his choice was right. It took him and his team about 10 days to finish the project. Robert kept me updated vie email on the status of his project. His team was very dedicated and careful. The paver patio he and his team built was much better than I initially thought. It is beautiful, gorgeous, and big. I am very lucky to have Robert for this project. I will definitely contact him again for my next project.
