Recent Review: My experience was excellent. The work he did was great. He was really particular about it. He was very professional and very easy to talk to. He was always prompt and courteous. I was in the hospital between the time he started and finished the project. He was very patient with me through that. I thought his prices were reasonable.

Reviews in Portland to Remove Popcorn Ceiling

DCCC Remodeling
Lady on the phone, although knowledgeable, spent a lot of unnecessary time explaining the procedure involved in the popcorn ceiling removal-using terms familiar to remodeling but not necessarily to the general public-then quoted $45 fee, and $70 an hour-when asked directly for an estimate of hours & costs I was given another attempt to go into details involved. When pushed, she finally gave me '6 hours' to do part of the procedure, then an additional explanation of what, why additional hours were needed-finally pushed, I got an estimate of $8-900-never did I receive an offer to have someone come out, see the issue and make a written estimate.

Gentleman showed up at appointed time on the 7th December. Took some pictures of the area of the work needed but took no measurements. A week later, called in as had not heard about a quote and was told that needed to get with person who came out. After second week with NO call or a quote, am going with another company.

Raoul did not come out to see the room to give us a quote. That should have been a warning sign to look for someone else. He quoted ( $300 + $20 to 40 for materials) us via email and the final work came in at a much high higher price than expected for the small room. Upon airing our concerns Raoul was not will to negotiate at all - in fact he added cost to our invoice say he left some fees out! He then said he could give us the 10% Angie's list discount which we should have received anyways from the beginning. All in all we were disappointed, he was not punctual and had bad communication skills which he often blamed on his iPad. The only thing that showed up punctually was our invoice.

Brian (Lee) was great. He was able to take a ceiling fan down from a 20 foot ceiling.  He was very creative with the ladder!!!  Two other companies refused to do that job before even coming out for an estimate. Thank you, Brian. I am having some popcorn removed from the upstairs hallway ceiling and need the light fixtures removed.  Brian was concerned that if he did that job today, I would be without light for too long (in a very dark hallway).  He offered to return to complete the job the afternoon before the popcorn removal, with no additional service fee.

Job was completed on schedule and within price quoted. An unrelated accident put them off schedule and prompted a crew change but it all worked out.

AA Reliable Handyman
We had recently purchased a light fixture to replace the ceiling fan in the dining room. Trent did an excellent and careful job to install the light fixture at the correct height and getting the glass shade to hang level.  We very pleased with the installation of the light fixture.

AHard Hat Handyman
Previous contractor had done a very poor job in doing much repair work throughout the home at a time when I was confronted and dealing with many other stressful situations. I contacted Mr. Burgess at Hard Hat Handyman and discussed some of my needs. He was extremely polite and helpful, as well as reassuring. He discussed each project with me and gave me a very comparable estimate to others I had received. He also, however, gave me a great deal of information on products I could buy and where I might find the best prices for them, things to watch out for, etc. He turned my loft into a finished room with care in the detail of his work, noticing a couple safety issues that he brought to my attention. He was able time wise to adjust his time and charges to accommodate fixing the top of my stairs where the carpet was left unfinished posing a possible tripping hazard and gave me suggestions for the other minor things that I could take care of myself. He was prompt in arrival, cleaned up thoroughly after himself, and was very polite and professional. My kitchen floor was literally destroyed as far as appearance by the previous contractors working on the rest of the home, moving things around, plus it was old and time for replacement. Mr. Burgess again gave me several suggestions about things to consider when purchasing linoleum and cove base. He promptly showed up for this job promptly, too, and when he was gone, I was sooo pleased with my new looking kitchen! My family room has a very high vaulted popcorn ceiling. Again, I supplied materials that I had purchased with suggestions from Mr. Burgess. I know its a ceiling that calls for a lot of cutting in around protruding wood and stone work. It looks brand new. I also needed a bedroom (previously a teens bedroom) repainted to look updated and nice again. I supplied the paint and primer. Mr. Burgess, as expected, arrived promptly as scheduled and taped it all off, primed it, painted it perfectly, took care of trim work, and cleaned up afterward. Because I was not able to be at home at the time of this job, Mr. Burgess called me the same evening to check to see if everything was to my satisfaction. On the previous jobs, he had done a "walk through" with me to check out the room and things he had done and make sure I was pleased with the results. I have greatly appreciated Mr. Burgess friendly and professional suggestions, his fair pricing and his discussions, in advance, of that pricing and what all he would do. I have to say I was more than pleased with the results.

AHandyman Matters
We contact Handyman matters because we had a ceiling fan that had partly come out of the ceiling. They sent out a contractor who removed the ceiling fan and then showed us that it had been improperly installed without a brace - leading to the ceiling box breaking. After remoing the fan, he told us that the most cost effective thing would be for us to get a ceiling box and light from a light store and have them install it. He told us exactly what to buy for the box and we did (since we didn't really want a ceiling fan in that room anyway). The next visit he installed the light, tested it and cleaned up. The contractor was pleasant to work with, punctual and informative. His work was c lean and professional and we had a good experience.
