Recent Review: Mike was professional and helpful.  When he saw that one of my faucets was leaking in the bathroom, he told me that the leaking would prevent the grout from drying properly.  He suggested I get a plumber in to fix the leak and then he would come back to finish the job.  He did not charge me anything extra for having to come back again.  He did a beautiful job.  I highly recommend his work.

Reviews in Pittsburgh to Replace or Repair Grout

CEmpire Today®
After posting my experience on multiple review boards, and sending an email to Empire's customer service account, I have to share that the company did make good. The next morning after my lost work day and horrible customer service experience, I received a call at 8:23 in the morning from Ryan, someone I had never spoken to before. He assured me that they would make this right, and that someone would be able to be at my house around 10 that morning if I was able to get home from work. I adjusted my work day and made it home in time. I then got a call from Stephanie, the one I had left several messages for, who told me that her general manager had asked her to call and make sure I was able to be home for the call. Then the repairman called and gave me an eta on his arrival. That is the most calls I have ever received from Empire, and all within an hour or so! The repairman showed up in a reasonable time, fixed the grout in both bathrooms and was on his way within 40 minutes. My floor looks good again, and I will hope that this is the last time I will need their services. Thank you, Empire, for making things right.

Great. Had vast array of grout colors, he chose the perfect match. Work was seamless, cannot tell where it was done.

Bob replaced a missing tile (which needed to be removed as part of a previous plumbing repair), including replacement of the backer board. He made certain to match the grout color to our existing grout, even going so far as to drop off a grout color chart in our mailbox a few days before so that we could choose! He also replaced missing grout in other places in the shower, replaced the shower fixture cover plate, caulked everywhere, and sealed the whole shower. He was very nice and very professional. We would definitely hire him again.

The crew was supposed to be at my house on Friday between 9-11 am.  When they had not arrived by 11:30 I called the scheduler to confirm that they were supposed to come.  I left a message and shortly thereafter I received a call from Tony.  He explained that due to the cold weather several of their trucks did not work and they had to combine jobs.  He explained that they had an inspection to do before they could come to my house, but would be there between 12:30- 1pm.  He called again at 1:30 and said that he was just leaving and would be there soon.  They finally arrived at 2:30. I showed them the bathroom and explained that there were just some spots that needed taken care of with the grout and the caulking around the bathtub needed replaced entirely.  They ended up re-grouting all of the tile walls and ceiling and charging me an extra $80 on top of the $100 that I paid for the Big Deal.  Tony asked if the scheduler had explained the billing and I said no and then he told me that I owed them an additional $80.  I wrote them a check. My main gripe is that they did not replace the caulking and instead filled the gap between my tub and the tile with the premixed grout.  After the crew left at 5:00, I did some research and found that this is not an appropriate use of the product.  I checked online and grout is not flexible and will not create a strong enough seal to keep water out in that seam.  I even called the 1-800 number for the company that made the grout, Custom Building Products , to confirm this was the case and they agreed that you can't use grout where there should be caulking. Now, the grout has to be removed and be replaced with caulking. I contacted Tony within an hour of him leaving my house and explained that I was not happy with the use of the grout instead of caulking.  He told me that he would come Sunday or Wednesday and fix the problem.  Anxious to finish this project, I asked him what time  on Sunday and he said "probably in the morning, but we could set it Saturday"  I never heard from him Saturday and texted him Saturday around 6:30 pm to ask what time.  He got back to me Sunday at 11:30 am and told me Sunday would not work.  He assured me that Wednesday he would be able to come.  I said that I needed a definite time.  He said after 3:00 pm on Wednesday and that he would text me around noon to confirm and set a definite time.  At 1:00 pm on Wednesday I asked what time he would be coming because again there was no communication from him.  He replied at 5:30 pm explaining that he would not be coming and asked if he could reschedule for Thursday through Sunday. I am hesitant to plan another time slot for him to not show up to. My husband and I will probably just end up fixing it ourselves to ensure that it is done correctly and in a timely manner. I feel like he has wasted 3 days of my time, overcharged me, and done inadequate work.

One of the workers showed up at correct time but he had no idea what job he was even doing. I had to explain to him what had to be done since it was clear he was never told. I had spots of grout that were missing and other spots that needed cleaned up from the tile. Neither of these were done. Disappointing in that bob saw things and said they'd be fixed but weren't.

Steam Cleaning & Grout Sealing went fine,  but when it came to replacing the shower floor grout they eventually just gave up - blaming my shower pan being wet.  That would have been fine had they not taken my money & told me they could do the job initially - but leaving me with the job not done right was not appreciated & will not be forgotten.

They arrived on time.  They were very personable and professional.  Our floors look fantastic.  The one bathroom in particular, I thought would turn out marginal at best as the grout was so very dirty.  I was amazed at how good it looks.  Old coffee stains and other stains came out of our carpets and they look like new.  I only wish they could also repair grout as some of our grout that was already loose did come out completely, which is understandable, and I will need to find someone to do that repair.

FGroutMedic
Grout Medic in Pittsburgh came to my house on December 30, fairly quickly after I contacted them.  I requested grout repair in two bathrooms (2 floor perimeters and one shower floor perimeter) and grout cleaning of tile countertops in one bathroom.  A proposal was sent to me via email on Jan. 7.  I noticed the proposal stated caulking and not re-grouting.  I replied to the email the same day:  ?Beth ? thank you ? I am concerned by the word ?caulk? as I do not want caulk; I want grout which is the present material.  I can get anyone to caulk around the perimeter of the bathrooms and shower.  I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that you would remove the old grout and put in new grout.?  Beth did not reply.  Thinking perhaps she missed my email, I resent it on Jan. 9: ?Beth ? can you please advise ? thank you.?  Never heard back from her again.  She totally wasted my time.   I can only conclude that Beth does not like being questioned about their methods and she concluded, without the courtesy of explanation, that they will not do my house since I do not want caulk.  If the company is called grout medic, then grout is the material I would expect them to use, not caulk.  Most all caulk in a shower will mildew.  Readers of Henri De Marne?s weekly column in the paper know that Sika Flex 1a is the only caulk that will not mildew but it will discolor over time.   In addition, the price to ?caulk? these very small areas was $345.00 (plus $30 to clean the countertop).  Perhaps if they were removing the old grout and applying new it would warrant that price but to run a bead of caulk around the perimeters of these very small areas, can be done by my handyman in less than an hour for $25.00.  If Beth did not want to do the job, she should have stated so and why.  Any contractor should gladly answer potential client questions respectfully asked.  Just ignoring someone, rates an F in my book.  It is disrespectful.

The first person to work on the grout was unable to perform the task. The owner took over and finished the job.
