Reviews in Orlando for Building a Gazebo

UPDATE 9/3/18: This is an update to an earlier review from June 2018 to lower my rating to C because of my long-term experience. The initial service is great and price is fair, but follow up to address any issues is non-existent, which renders any promised warranty period pointless. Communication is not good as there are long delays between responses, endless promises, and you will have to stay on top of things. If you expect a contractor to respect your time, you will be disappointed here. It's a shame because Chris is a polite and likeable guy, so you want to give him the benefit of the doubt but he keeps letting you down. He just doesn't seem to value his customers' business after the main job is done. Keep that in mind when you consider this contractor. I've been trying to resolve a drainage issue with the retaining wall he installed and after 2 months of promises that he'd address it, I gave up and will hire someone else. My experience is based on: Installation of 80 ft retaining wall to fix an erosion issue, 50 ft paver walkway, 18 ft x 14 ft paver patio, and gazebo install between 2017-2018. I also sent him business by referral to my neighbor who hired him for a hardscape job.

The work was done in a very timely manner. It was done in four day. He also does landscaping. He had different things that he could bring in to finish the job off with. I am very happy with the quality of the workmanship and the timely manner in which he completed it. He made a very aesthetically pleasing plan. I have gotten a lot of compliments about my back yard.

Greg and Mike listened carefully to our wishes as well as concerns and as a result, mapped out a clear work plan. They make a great, dedicated, hard working team overall. They were punctual, professional and diligent while keeping the safety of our children in mind. This was a four day project, and at the end of each day they would clean up and leave the back yard in great condition. The end result was exactly what we wanted, a beautiful, well constructed gazebo that complemented our backyard. I would without a doubt highly recommend Greg and Mike. We will certainly continue to use their service in the future. If you are looking for quality work, outstanding costumer service and an approachable, committed team, then My Handyman and Tile is your company.

Todd has been doing jobs for us for a couple of years and we could not be happier. The pergola project started because we had wooden beams that came out in front of our house and had Bougainville growing on it. Even though it was pretty it started to erode the wood so we needed to replace it. Todd came up with a drawing of our pergola. It was better than we had expected. We would recommend Todd to anyone. He is a well-rounded "handyman" who has recently gotten his general contactor's license. He is very talented, very professional and a really nice person.

Andy has completed several weeks-long projects at our home over the past several years and he is the best! We had a drab, contractor-grade lanai which he redesigned 4 years ago into a beautiful outdoor living space. Since then, we have gradually added to the backyard and lanai area with several additional projects. Most recently, he refurbished our fountain and added planters and a pergola. His design ideas and creativity are absolutely incredible and his commitment to doing a quality job is evident in every finished product. His crew is as committed as he is and they are eager to satisfy the customer. They did anything I asked and made any modifications I needed. The only negative is that, like many good contractors, he is very busy and sometimes it is hard to get on his schedule and stay there. I don't mind waiting my turn because he is worth it. But it almost makes me wish I could keep his great service my little secret!

We came across Ivey Duke when he was doing some work for a neighbor. We needed to have two pergola built over some recently poured concrete slabs. All we had to go by in regards to building the pergola was some internet pictures and an idea in my wife's head. We had Ivey come over and do some measuring and to discuss the idea. He spent a while (more than an hour) going over the pictures we had and discussing it with my wife. He then wrote us an estimate complete with some very professional looking drawings of how he saw the project. His proposal was for $950 labor and about $1250 for materials (we wanted it out of cedar) and he agreed to provide us with a detailed list of materials since we get a discount at a local hardware store. The project started on a Tuesday and he and his helper worked for three solid days meticulously building the two pergola taking great pains to make sure everything was perfect. The pergola look beautiful and were better than we could possibly imagine! Even though he took more than a half day longer than estimated, the only additional charges he added was $15 for extra materials. He is a meticulous and professional craftsman and we will be calling him for any work in the future!

AThe Handyman Company
The work was done on a Sunday, which surprised me, but showed that the company is committed to giving it all.  I had to arrange the work over the phone because this was for my second home (where my daughter and her family live) and although it took longer to arrange than I would have preferred, it certainly wasn't overly long.  It was easy to pay (my daughter provided the credit card when the job was done).  The house looks great.  This was my second experience with this company, although the two projects were different (pressure washing and deck repair) but I was extremely satisfied with both.  I will call this company again for any kind of handyman needs.

ALaurence E Fosgate
Because our home has a beautiful view of the golf course, we wanted our backyard to reflect and frame the vista we enjoyed seeing each day.  The backyard of our new home had very little grass, a lot of dirt and tremendous potential.  So, rather than making a futile attempt at trying to create our own respite, my husband and I went to Angie's List to find the most qualified designer, and landscape artist in the Orlando area.  Ed Fosgate listened to our desires and ideas...and asked us to come up with three or four elements that were especially important to us to be included in his landscape elemental plan.  The next day he came back and we gave him renderings of a patio, bridge and waterfall.  We also wanted a gazebo, but, because of the style of our home, and the view of our home and backyard from the golf course, Ed suggested that a pergola would be more in keeping with the design of our home and future landscaping.  After understanding the difference in the two structures, we agreed--since the pergola was so classic and had such a clean design.  In a couple of days,  Ed was back with his completed landscaping design which was perfect in every way.  We recognized Ed's truly creative genius when he included a berm behind the waterfall and at the top of the bridge--which became a useful deck where we can sit, eat and enjoy a fire pit on those rare, but special, cool Florida nights.  Ed thoughtfully included flowering plants that keep our garden colorful at all times and special LED accent lighting, giving us the option to utilize our deck at night.  Ed is thoughtful and resourceful, as is his business associate Michael.  They go above and beyond what is necessary to make your dreams come true.  Additionally, the crew of workers are respectful and dependable.  We would recommend Ed Fosgate's services and expertise to all, and look forward to hiring him again in the future.

CThe Handyman Company
This was a special offer through Angie's List. When the provider contacted me the said they provided the equipment for the jobs I needed performed. That was not the case when the serviceman arrived. We had to rummage through the garage to find a dinky hand sprayer to spray a mildew preventive on the roof of the house. I was satisfied with the results, however. He did not have the needed tool to install the tension wire. I did have the allen wrench provided with the hardware for the job, but he didn't really seem motivated. The worker did successfully install the pot rack with his own tools. Throughout his visit the worker dumped his personal woes on me. I just wanted him to leave.
