Business Description: It's hard to nail down an exact job description for a handyman, simply because he performs so many different tasks over the course of a working day. One day a handyman might be putting in a new door and the next he might be fixing the plumbing. Some handymen begin working in the field as an apprentice to a senior handyman. Here the future handyman will help the senior with basic measuring and cutting tasks, as well as other general labor. In this way, a handyman will gain a great deal of hands-on knowledge at the position. This practice is prevalent in the fields of plumbing and electricity, where a handyman starts out in a position known as a "journeyman" before becoming a licensed professional. To be an effective handyman, you need a wide range of repair and maintenance skills. The website of the Association of Certified Handyman Professionals, or ACHP, lists 24 different job areas under its "Handyman Directory" listings. These include air conditioning, appliances, carpentry, drywall, electrical, flooring, heating and cooling, kitchen and bath remodeling, painting, plumbing, pressure washing, roofing and windows and doors. Handymen work for homeowners and businesses, either as independent contractors or as members of maintenance crews. A successful handyman is versatile enough to repair faulty appliances and toilets, fix minor electrical issues, remodel rooms, paint a building's exterior and handle numerous other tasks.

Recent Review: Had roof leaks done by them previously because of sun room addition is metal and kind of flat. Suggested we put up flashing underneath shingles's were meets metal room addition so water would not pool by Facia causing possibility of ice dam or water rotting wood facia. Cleaned all the leaves off of roof and resealed screws holding metal down and applied alastrmerick (spelling)? That was put into holes where screws were reused or new screws as warranted. Would recommend this company and I will use them again in the future. Thanks

Recent Review: Other than two issues their work was outstanding, especially their finishing carpenter.  That guy is top notch!  Three years later we have been very satisfied with their work other than the following two issues:  1) third wide drive began crackeling on top of pavement about 1.5 years later.  It continues to crumble but they will not do anything.  2) the electric outlet installed on the outside wall of the room addition has never worked.  Contacted them about 9 months later once realized this and was told they would send an electrician out.  Never happened and contacted them two more times regarding this same issue and nobody ever came.  Three years later it is still a dead outlet. We did ask them to come out again in the spring of 2015 for a quote on a potential garage addition.  Told the same salesman about the outlet and the drive while he was there and he said he would look into it.  We didn't end up doing the garage addition and I have never heard back from him.  The salesman was always good to show up quickly when it was time to collect another payment, but not so speedy when you needed something.  He seemed to have an attitude at times with me as a customer.  Maybe it was just a simple conflict of personalities as the owner who came out and met with my wife really impressed her. Over all we would use them again for their quality of work, but only if we could get the other two issues fixed and deal with a different salesman.

Quality is excellent. Estimate and budget was missing several items which was frustrating. Does not communicate well with the owners.

My husband called to set up an appointment to have them come out for a free estimate on a room addition and garage that we are wanting to add to our home. They took my husbands e-mail address and said they would let us know when they could come out. It has been over a week and we still have not heard from them. I'm just  wondering if they are not interested in our business or just lost our e-mail address??? They did come out and give us an estimate/bid. There was initially a miscommunication. We did not receive their bid in October  therefore we did not think they were interested in bidding. The original bid was lost in e-mail space and we never received it.  There was contact again with this provider and we found out that they did want to bid. They resent the bid to us in January via e-mail and we did receive it.  I will say we have not decided what we are going to do yet but the bid we recieved seemed reasonable.

Emailed and spoke to Vic about a room addition and bathroom remodel as well as some misc around a home I recently purchased.  He was very prompt returning email and phone calls and arrived as scheduled to our appointment. My ideas were heard about the work I wanted to do but I wasn't given any ideas or his vision for the work that could be done. I wanted to add space to a small bedroom which was the master and totally gut the bathroom and existing closet and make a large spa bath. I got absolutely no input as to how this would or could be done. All I got was a price of about $25,000, but no idea what I would be buying. Also the work couldn't begin for 2-3 months. He also mentioned there would be extra charges because his company is located in MWC and we are in Blanchard. That was also a negative. Overall there was little input as to what could be done, long time frame for work to start, and way too much money. I ended up going with another company not on Angie's list who is doing more work for way less money and the work has already started. Since I only used this list to find a handy man and he is the only one I called from this source I hope he won't comment that I am mistaken on whom I spoke with.

ALow Cost Maintenance
Spanky and his wife, Sandy, own Low Cost Maintenance.  I wanted to paint the exterior of my house, but I knew there was some wood rot to be removed.  (It is about a 1500 sq ft house built in the 1920s.)  Spanky and Jason, a man he employs sometimes for larger jobs, spent three days removing the rotted wood and replacing it so that the new boards would match the existing soffits, which are tongue and groove construction.  They scraped loose paint from the soffits and gables, applied a case of caulk, and painted with primer on the areas that would be difficult for me to reach (I plan to do the painting myself).  They worked three long days for this price.  I've had Spanky do many small projects for me over the last year.  Some handymen will do a slap-dash job, simply to get something finished, but Spanky is NOT like that.  He may take longer to complete the job, but you can be sure it's done right, and if you're not happy, he will do whatever he can to make it right.  There are two things that may make some people uncomfortable: He works on a cash-only basis (no checks, no credit cards), and when he's going to be working outside of someone's house for an entire day, he may want to bring his dogs, unless you tell him not to.  (I actually liked having his dogs there, helping to guard the house.)  On another occasion Spanky installed a glass screen door, replaced a rotted threshold, installed a rain cap over the doorway and crawled under my laundry room addition to install some supports to keep the floor from feeling bouncy.  (I had purchased the door in advance.)  For his 5-6 hours of labor, he charged $200.  I thought it was a bargain. Another time I had a solid wood exterior door that had gotten quite swollen after heavy rains.  Spanky and Sandy came over about 7 p.m. after I got off work.  He removed the door, took off the doorknob and bolt lock, shaved and sanded the door, then rehung it (he did it a few times until he was sure the door closed correctly).  He charged me $40.  My only hesitation about writing this review is that now he might get so busy that he won't have time to work for me as often!  He also does tile, patios, fences, cabinets, counters, landscaping, tree trimming, decks, and light repairs of plumbing, electrical and appliances.
