Bruce Liberti LLC
Recent Review: The contractor responded quickly to an enquiry that I sent via Angie's List. Though he declined this repair due to his current schedule, I did appreciate a response. In my search for a contractor, three out of the five companies I contacted did not respond at all. A fourth one did not come to an appointment and the last one cancelled on the day the work was supposed to be executed. I am now going to try my luck on HomeAdvisor.

Recent Review: Rudy and co-worker were prompt, efficient, and very professional. They began and completed the job in less than 7 hours. This included removing old ceiling tiles and supports and installing new supports and tiles in a large basement room. All old materials were removed and the room was swept. I highly recommend this company and would definitely hire Tools To The Rescue for our next project.

Recent Review: They worked hard to finish on time and did an excellent job. Pat was very accomodating to my request that he fit the job in ASAP - and they were both very nice folks.   The only small c**** was that they left a little bit of a mess downstairs in the basement that I didn't notice till after they left. But it was not a big deal - overall they were great and I'd use them again.

DRamon Drywall
The job was delayed by a week as the subcontractors were not available. Then there were a series of people (basically whoever he could find) who came in and out of our home. They showed very little concern for our house. They did not take routine precaution such as putting up plastic barriers at the door, as a result for weeks, every night our home was covered in dust which we had to clean. We had to repeatedly ask them lay down paper so they don't leave dusty foot prints all over the house. We did everything including providing them with shoe covering but like incorrigible children they would forget to take them off, as they walked out of the work area. The pre-prep was non existent and they are not in the habit of cleaning up after themselves. Ramon was hired to install dry wall followed by a drop ceiling and then paint the area. In his wisdom he did the dry wall and then painted. This was for his convenience. The subcontractor he hired for painting was a sour man who left large areas unpainted and had to be brought back to finish the job. The other issue was because he painted before the drop ceiling, the drop ceiling installers left several marks on newly painted walls which need touch up, one more thing for us to do. The most disappointing part of the interaction was that Ramon had come to see the home at least three times before we agreed to hire him. Dry wall in a basement can present with several difficult situation which demand a professional solution. For example, he drywalled the utility area in the basement but did not not account for ventilation. I had to hire someone else to come and open the wall so the area would have proper ventilation. As a professional he should have known this. The job progressed slowly because Ramon moved on to another job leaving a day laborer and a semi skilled individual who plodded through. The job was often shoddy. They would fix something which would fall off the next day. Or they would forget to make sure the entire room needs to be inspected to make sure there were no area where insulation was visible. I still have at least three area which need attention but at this point I can't do anything about it as they have collected the money and are not under any obligation to respond. The most frustrating aspect of interaction with this contractor is that he does not listen closely nor is he in the habit of taking notes. As a result despite going over the job ad nauseam he needed to be reoriented every day. This created confusion and resulted in a poor job.

This contractor did not satisfy the insurance requirements defined by the management company of our condominium building. Those requirements were forwarded to the contractor nine days before the work was supposed to start - today - and reconfirmed four days ago. The contractor was forced to cancel on the day of the appointment. Not cool since my wife and I took a day off work for this. Other than that, the contractor has been very responsive, evaluated the work via pictures I sent and provided estimates promptly. Too bad that he overlooked insurance requirements. A 30% deposit was sent five calendar days prior to the appointment. The contractor has promised to refund me.

Contractor responded quickly to a message I had sent thru Angie's List, and offered to come the next day to evaluate the work that needed to be done. I took the day off work but the contractor never showed up; never contacted me. Haven't heard from him. This is just unprofessional...

FSPEEDYFIXIT
I needed my bedroom wall and ceiling soundproofed and I did extensive research on Angie's List. I finally called Speedyfixit based on their great reviews. Saxon came and later sent an estimate I accepted. However, as soon as he began the job, things started going wrong. For one he kept claiming what he would do the next day, but only achieved a third of it, which made the project much more lengthy and costly. I went back on Angie's List because I could not understand how someone who was underestimating every step of work while overestimating his abilities could get such excellent reviews. To my disappointment I discovered that I had hired the wrong guy. The one who received the raves is Seth, a professional carpenter. Saxon is a very friendly guy and animal lover and I was grateful that he agreed to let my dog stay in the apartment while he worked. However, the job was a disaster. Saxon did not know how to work with the soundproofing material which created many problems. One problem was an overlap of material which I was alarmed about because I could foresee the wall later having a huge bump. Saxon appeasing me said he would fix the problems, but he was not able to. Also, he never brought all the supplies he needed and kept using whatever he needed in the house like my scissors and cleaning supplies; he gunked up my lamp and ladder and even used my computer without asking for permission. When I found out, he claimed he needed to look up the lumber store down the street, which was nonsense of course. I felt violated and extremely uncomfortable from then on. Damages: I made Saxon aware that it was important that my handmade bed not be damaged, but it was. He also damaged the baseboard of the other bedroom walls, made deep scratches in the hallway wall and broke window hardware, which he replaced, but in such a poor manner that the window did not open anymore. In the end he left with my keys (!), without meeting with me, probably because he did not have the courage to face me and the fact that he never managed to finish the wall in a professional way. He even had the audacity to complain about the extra hours he had spent completing the project (which he did not). The final result is a wall on which plaster strips show through the paint, the corners are taped shut and which has a huge vertical bump. In a final email Saxon claimed he was proud of his work and asked to be paid for extra time he spent on an unfinished baseboard because it was not part of the wall. Naturally, I declined because the wall had a baseboard before (which he removed) and he never bothered to order and install the parts we had discussed. The lesson I learned was to never hire a contractor who does not have a license, to get and verify references. I will now have to hire another contractor to repair the bed and finish the project, which will be very costly.
