Recent Review: I have not used them yet because I am not finished with the bathroom. They were great and got back with me immediately. Their quote was reasonable and I was very happy. They quoted me $795 for a new shower door along with a protector for the glass; so it was $995 with that. It was by Shower Guard with lifetime guarantee. They responded quickly and got someone out to take a look maybe the next day; from that point, it was like 3 days. Then I got an estimate about 2 or 3 days later. If I get a shower door, I will deal with them.

Recent Review: Jeff came on short notice in September. I was very pleased that he could make time for me while I was off work. He replaced a broken garbage disposal in the kitchen that now works perfectly. Also replaced kitchen under counter and hanging lights and a ceiling fan. He fixed a glass shower door hinge that has been fixed before and never held- now it is secure. Replaced gait knob hardware that was loose that is now working very well. He is also repairing a broken patio chair. Great attention to detail and very personable. I have hired him do work before and was very satisfied and will again. Highly recommend.

Recent Review: SUMMARY: SES did high quality work. They stuck to the projected cost. They finished within the estimated timeframe (or at least close enough). PRELIMINARY STAGES: SES promptly returned our initial call and set up a visit by their estimator. Within a very reasonable timeframe (maybe a little more than a week), we had the estimate in hand. In contrast, we were shocked to see how difficult it was to deal with some other contractors--even in the early stage, when we were trying to give them business. DETAILS OF THE JOB: They gutted ~50% of a ~180 sq ft bathroom to the studs; did some framing/re-framing; removed a large tub and patched in some hardwood; completely re-did the mortar bed/tile/plumbing for the shower; re-routed an HVAC intake to a different part of the house; moved/added some plumbing and electrical; installed a new commode and tile floor in a new toilet closet; hung crown molding; installed a double vanity with a stone top; hung a large mirror and frameless shower door; built out 2 closets. QUALITY. Their renovation was high quality and fit perfectly into our 1930’s arts-and-crafts home. They found, sanded, and painted an old 5 panel door to match the doors in rest of the house. The salvaged/refinished pine floor fits into the existing pine floor seamlessly, and the new trim work matches that in the rest of the house. Their tile guy did an outstanding job on the shower—floor to ceiling with a bullnose and a niche. The subs they used for the vanity/stone top and for the mirror/shower door did a high quality job. We designed our closets and the trim carpenter built them out perfectly (soft-close drawers and all). COMMUNICATION. This was a big asset to the SES experience. Ashley kept us posted with an email almost every day. We knew what to expect when we got home from work, as well as what to look for the next day and the rest of the week. In the rare event that there were surprises or delays, Ashley would let us know right away as well as what the resolution would be. While Ashley was the main line of communication, the owner, Shawn, was very accessible as well when necessary. PROFESSIONALISM. All the people we interacted with were professional and punctual. The workers were respectful of us and our home, and they did a great job cleaning up every day. With very few exceptions, people were at the house every weekday (and even some weekend days), from the start to the finish of the project. THE UNEXPECTED. As the work proceeded, some minor structural damage from the old shower had to be addressed and the hot water heater needed some repairs. These were taken care off in a time- and cost-efficient manner. Otherwise, there were a few miscommunications regarding the electrical rough ins, a plumbing valve, the closet build outs, and the shower door. All these were very minor and easily addressed. Along the way—and especially as things neared the end—Shawn made sure we had everything exactly the way we wanted it. This was our first time hiring a contractor. Before our renovation, we had heard many contractor-related horror stories. Our experience with SES was drastically different. We are already scheduling another project with them.

Recent Review: I couldn't have asked for better quality work from Thomas and his crew. They spent two weeks completing the job which was exactly the time estimate for work. Thomas came to the house to give an estimate for labor, including electricians and plumbers. He was spot on with their costs. The electrician and plumbers were excellent and offered advice when needed. Thomas also helped me with some ideas. He sent me an estimate that evening. I spent the next day on the internet looking for vanity, sink, toilet, cabinets, and jet tub. I decided that Lowes had the best selection. I went to the Lowes on Claiborne and worked with Julia who helped me with coordinating everything. I decided to purchase off the floor because of the cost advantage. I then went out of town for two weeks. Lowes held all of the items and Thomas picked it up in stages. It was seemless. Thomas ended up making a couple of extra trips to Lowes for me due to a broken sink and wrong shower door. He took away all of the trash and cleaned up every day. I recommend using the Renaissance Man for any renovation project.

Recent Review: He installed my kitchen cabinets before, and when I needed to have some other work done, I was happy to have him come back and help me. He was excellent! This guy is a perfectionist. He came when he said he was going to and did a wonderful job. There's nothing he can't do! He built a mantel for me, based off of a drawing that I did. I've recommended him to my friends!

Recent Review: The old vinyl flooring in my home was glued down very well and the heavy traffic areas were even worse, but they worked on it until they got it all up.  They took their time with the tile work and it came out beautiful.  I had a contractor friend stop by, (that couldn't take on this job) and he praised their work and requested a business card so that he could use their services and refer them to others in the business.  These two guys were my " Reno Super Heroes"!  They went above and beyond to fulfill my expectations.  Each time I thought that I would have to have my husband do something before they could move forward, they said "no, we will take care of that"! I am a perfictionist and if there was anything that I even mentioned I thought would be done differently, they made it happen.  Thgether, I don't think that here is anything they CAN'T do!  I can not thank them enough for turning my revelation into a realization.  These two guys were a Godsend !  I have already given them more jobs and will in the future.  Thanks John and JJ!

Major items had to be re-done at least once. There are numerous flaws, some which cannot be fixed and some that we will be hiring someone to correct. Some days nobody showed up at all. When the shower doors were installed a tile snapped in half because there was no cement under it. The grout is crumbling even in the shower floors and walls. We found two places where the workers broke our new tub and filled the cracks with caulk. The caulking around the tub separates from the wall when the tub is full of water. The fixtures in the tub and shower are improperly installed. We received a call from Purvis offering to fix the problems after a review was posted on Louisiana Rebuilds. We asked them to come by and never heard from them again. We had a worker contracted by Purvis come by because was never paid for his work. He was told that we had never paid. We had paid in full over a month before that. We are pursuing other options to resolve the issues. Hiring them was a huge mistake! Update: The Better Business Bureau (BBB) was contacted after the bathroom Purvis gutted and remodeled was deemed structurally unsound. The BBB tried for months to get the contractor to repair the damage. He offered to pay another contractor to come in and repair the damage but subsequently refused to make good on that offer. This contractor was ordered by the BBB to pay $17,000 for the damages following arbitration in 2008. As of June 2009 he has not paid anything and therefore has not met the terms of the arbitration agreement. This case in now in litigation and his membership in the BBB has been revoked. So, beware and do your homework if you are considering hiring this contractor.
