Recent Review: We often use the cliche, "Nice to've met you," but I can honestly say that I'm glad I got the chance to meet Thomas Koch.  I'm not local, and had to try to find an honest contractor who could transform a closet into a shower and a game room into a bedroom for my mother, who can't get up the stairs anymore due to illness.  Most of the contractors told me they'd give me a bid at Thanksgiving and work us in next year.  Thomas was here the same day, gave me a fair price, showed up on time and got quality work done by the agreed upon date.  He "worked around" any number of issues to make it all happen.  If that wasn't enough, he made a point to visit w/ Mom every day, have a cup of coffee with her and make her feel special.  You can't go wrong, he's a gem.

Recent Review: After 4 years of trying to find a reliable handyman to address the inevitable repairs and maintenance on my 4 unit apartment building and being continually disappointed, I finally found Lee on April 4, 2018. I was in New Orleans to help my son move into one of the units. The first job was painting the apartment. Lee and his helper knew that the walls must be cleaned first. Something many painters ignore. They spent hours washing all the walls and you should have seen how dirty the rinse water got. They taped off all the moulding and removed all switch plates. They cleaned all the windows and then patched. Being a perfectionist, I was happy. They started on my son's apartment on Wednesday and worked until late Friday to finish. Being impressed with that work, I decided to get him started on my long list of deferred repairs. It's so nice to find someone who will do even the small jobs and not price each task individually. Lee works quickly and efficiently and the work is top notch. He was 30 feet up on the roof hosing out the gutters. He went in the attic to find where the roof was leaking and then fixed it and then waited until the next rain to be sure it was fixed before repairing the rain damage to dining room ceiling. He replaced tub spouts, fixed a running toilet, installed smart locks on several doors, put power strips in the bedrooms, glass shelves above sinks in 3 bathrooms and hung up a huge heavy mirror. One of the larger jobs was when he washed and stained the cypress pergola and fence. What a difference it made. Lee scrubbed the black stains off the cinder block wall, sanded and urethaned a section of wood floor damaged by a door fixed door to prevent it from happening again. He repaired center support of a bed that collapsed in no time at all, moved a window blind higher so the window didn't scrape the fabric, installed cord covers to hide the ugly TV cables and knew to paint them before attaching them to the wall. He fixed a broken screen, painted the rear balcony floor after sanding it nicely. Lee even went and picked up a new Speed Queen washer to save me money on store delivery and installed it after removing the old washer. Any many, many more projects that were driving me crazy. He's also a very nice guy and spent 8 years in the National Guard and attended LSU. Because I was staying in my son's apartment while all this work was being done and I was working on stuff at the same time, I got to know Lee well. I learned he only recently started his handyman business after working for 20 years in the construction trades. He showed me photos of a remodel he had done and also a room addition including framing, drywall and installing windows. He seemed to have all the tools he needed and never said that a job was not worth his time. I still have a few things for him to do on the building as of me writing this on 5/11/18 including replacing the railing on the balcony. When it is all done, Lee will be the guy my son and I call to keep up on the building maintenance so I never get this backlogged again.

AFireball Renovations
I met a mover at my current employers office, who offered to quote me a price to change my flooring.  I was skeptical about all contractors, since the contractor I used post Katrina was so horrible.  I was terrified to trust anyone.  Prior to his estimate, I had collected 18 estimates, for 4 of the 5 major projects, as I was collecting estimates, to elevate my home.  He happened to have the lowest estimate.  However, that is not the reason I gave him the job.  I had asked all of the companies before him, to tell me how to tie into my existing roofline, when they attach my deck.  Out of the 19 companies I spoke with, he was the only one, to give me a precise description, of his approach.  I was sold by his ideas, and gave him the job. I made the decision, to give the entire job, to this contractor.  I wanted all new wood floors, throughout my house, in which the floors must be raised, to match the original house.  I wanted 420 sq. ft. of decking, with two sets of stairs.  I wanted a 10'x28' building attached to the backside, of the deck, subdivided.  I wanted both deck and outer building, under the existing roof.  I wanted a patio cover, at the back end, of the new driveway.   I also wanted 1300 sq. ft. of concrete, which would include sidewalks, walkways, and approximately 135' of driveway. I handed him the house key, said I will be back from Italy in 10 days, do what you can.  When I walked into my house 10 days later, it did not look like the same house.  The wood floors were all finished.  I couldn't believe it.  I was so impressed that they moved, all of my furniture and appliances, plus built up the floors, in the back half of the house, and installed all of the flooring, in just 10 days.  The furniture was polished, the bathrooms were cleaned and the house had never looked better.  It was amazing!  The real shock came, as I walked to the back door, and the guys were actually standing, on my new deck.  That was the most awesome welcome home, anyone could possibly ask for.  The surprised continued, the playroom/shed building was there, including the roof.  The patio cover was designed and built, better than expected.  It was awesome.  All of this was built in just 10 days. I have since amended the original contract 18 times with some of the following projects.  I added vinyl siding, soffit and fascia, to be installed on the house, as well as the patio.  The kitchen door was bad, along with the sill, so I added replacing these items.  I added finishing the interior, of both the shed and playroom.  When we added onto the house the first time, we did not get our attic opened between the two sections.  So, I added opening the roof between the first two sections of my attic.  I added decking the old, as well as the new attic space.  I added a work bench to be built in the new shed.  I added many truckloads of sand to be brought in, to fill in the yard before adding all of the new concrete.  I added a new column, to replace the old column, on our front porch.  I added the removal of the wrought iron rail, on the front porch, and the replacement with a new campsite rail, on the front porch.  I added the replacement of the ceramic tile, in both of the bathrooms.  I added the removal of our old water heater and it's building, and the replacement with a new tankless water heater.  I added a new custom built wrought iron base, vinyl covered gate, to be built and installed.  I added a bad water line to be replaced, on the incoming line of the house.  I added insulation, to be blown into the original house walls, as well as the new addition walls.  I added two large magnetic curio cabinets, to be custom designed, to fit behind both upper penisula cabinets, in my dining room.  I added saloon doors, to be custom built, to my design and installed, between my kitchen and dining room.  I still feel like I am forgetting to mention some of the others tasks.  But no matter what I threw out there, I was accommodated.  We are 8 weeks into the job, and just about completed.  All of my decking, handrails and stairs were designed and built using special ordered composite materials.  We are waiting for the remainder of these materials to arrive, otherwise it would be completely finished. I am one satisfied homeowner.  If anyone would like to come by and see my job, I will be more than happy to show it.
