Recent Review: Marty was great!  He was very easy to get in initial contact with and was happy to come out and give me a quote.  The day he came to my house he was prompt and addressed all my questions.  After I received his quote, I hired him immediately and he scheduled me the very next week.  Marty did an excellent job setting the bathtub, he set it in mortar and it feels very secure and solid. He used blankets to protect the bathtub and the floors from scratches and dirt while he worked. Additionally, he fixed a few things that a previous plumber I hired failed to do at no extra charge! The plumbing inspector came a few days later to inspect the work and passed the plumbing permit with no problems. Overall,  I regret that I didn't find Marty sooner, he is definitely the plumber I would recommend to my family and friends from now on.

Recent Review: Roger has been our plumber for over 20 years.  He also did the plumbing when we remodeled an upstairs bath. We had no concerns about lining him up for the job.  We no longer require a firm estimate from him because he is strict about keeping track of his time and materials.  He is a hard worker and a real value in today's work world.  He also knows his limits if the project is too big for a solo plumber.  You can trust him to take a job that he can competently do; otherwise, he will refer you, e.g., boiler work.

Oconomowoc Plumbing
Recent Review: OUTSTANDING!! Full review below. I was referred to Oconomowoc Plumbing by a water conditioning company in our area. I left a message and Mike called back very quickly. We discussed a need for a tub replacement at my house - he came out to look at it within a couple of days. Shortly thereafter, I had a leak in my basement that Mike was extremely responsive to. He came out, quickly identified the problem, a cost effective resolution & I couldn't be happier. This proved to be a sign of even better things to come in relation to the bathroom. Mike brought Rich Julius from Renew Your Home along to review our bathroom situation. We had an unidentified leak that had been going on for quite some time that ultimately caused part of the ceiling in the kitchen to have to be removed. A buddy and I had gutted out the shower stall and tile so the pipes were exposed and we could see just how much damage had been caused. Mike & Rich reviewed our situation with sympathy and good suggestions. They were happy to assist with as much or as little of the project as I wanted and were not in any way pushy to get "the whole job" as I have experienced with previous contractors. I cannot praise these guys enough! Their attention to detail is second to none and the end product is one we are very, very happy with. I am extremely thankful to have "discovered" them both as I ended up giving them the entire thing to do - complete demo and removal of tile around tub, the cast iron tub itself, shower base, all fixtures, vanity with tile counter top and toilet - a real GUT job! Between the two of them they: Reviewed our situation & offered helpful advice Assisted with Project Planning for a total bathroom replacement Assisted with product choice - everything from tiles & vanity to all the plumbing fixtures, even paint Worked with us on a suitable timeframe in which to get the project completed Were very patient with us as we did make changes along the way Came onsite in a timely and professional manner and were always respectful Created an excellent closet in place of the shower stall that looks like it was always there & provides us with ample storage space They always took time to clean up after themselves If you want a plumber who knows his stuff, go no further than Mike Johnson from Oconomowoc Plumbing. He is capable of everything from a faucet replacement to being part of a bathroom remodel. You'll not be sorry! See my Google Review which has a link to some before, during and after pictures. This project was doomed from the start.  We were not provided a preconstruction 3D rendering of the project as stated in the contract.  Also, the on site construction plans were not up to date and did not show new locations of the vanity, toilet and electrical.  Granted these were last minute changes to the plan but the company did not assist in the design after the changes were made. The design was done on the fly. Having no design plans caused many problems. The demolition phase caused damage to a subfloor and a hole in the drywall of an adjacent room. During rough in, a bathtub was installed prior to having the alcove studded out to accommodate a niche.  Also the plumber did not following manufacturers installation instructions for installing the tub. Instead of using the metal clips provided, the plumber drilled holes in the tub's  apron and screwed the tub directly to the wall studs.  Drilling holes in the tub voided the manufacturers ten year warranty. The plumber also drilled holes in a shower drain base to screw it down .  The plumber, a contractor,  sent me an email saying he has been installing tubs and drains this way for eighteen years. WOW! A new tub replacement was provided but it was missing the installation hardware for which I had to prod them to deliver.  I had also ordered a toe tap drain for the tub from their supplier. It was delivered to our house but went missing from the plumbing fixture box.  The plumber installed a twist drain instead.  I never did get the toe tap drain I had ordered and paid for even though it was requested many times.. All of these problems were pointed out by me, the customer. The project manager had no over sight of a workers workmanship. One bathroom was stripped to the sub floor in preparation for a tile floor. They did patch two sections of the sub floor caused by the demolition damage.  The subfloor is half inch OSB.  It had deflection points at the seams between the joists of greater than an eighth inch.  They did no evaluation of the subfloor. Their plan was to lay down cement board over this weak floor and call it structurally ready for a tile floor. The other bath had floor joists reconfigured for a change in toilet position. The building inspector shined a flash light at the newly installed joists and the light shined right through a gap between the joist and subfloor. What good is a joist if it doesn't support the floor above it. The building inspector told me I needed shim the gap so it supports the floor. The project was left at incomplete rough in, before it could even be inspected by the town building inspector. They terminated the contract on grounds there were too many complaints and they did not have access to the work site on three days.  This is only half true.  One of those three days the plumber was actually working in our house removing the bath tub.  Another day we called their office and was told by the secretary no one was scheduled to work at our house. I found the workmanship very poor.  This company has very low quality standards.  I could not recommend hiring this company for any project.

DPAUL'S REMODELING & HANDYMAN SERVICE
Paul showed up to give quote within 2 days of contact; He emailed me quote quickly: start Mon 11/03/08, completion date 11/17 (two weeks), 50% deposit up front. ------------- Started 9am Mon laying plastic outside 2nd floor bathroom & down the stairs. He rarely took breaks, even for lunch. First week: if he was not at house by 9am he called by 9:20. ------------- He brought another guy to help with tub/surround install. The directions were not read & "feet" on surround not removed, leaving 1" gap between bath & surround - not pretty. Paul said he would put in expanding foam & caulk to "Make it look like it was supposed to be there." ----------------- Friday of first week: Paul can't come that day, will come 9am Sat morning. Sat: no call/no show. BY THE END OF WEEK 1: soffit out & ceiling drywalled; recessed lights in; tub & surround in; plumbing under tub complete; vanity & toilet out; backerboard laid for tile floor; some walls primed. ------------------ Waste pipe discovered in odd spot when vanity removed. We decided to get 60" vanity to accommodate pipe - few places stock 60" single sink vanity, so had to be special ordered. ----------------------------------------------- SECOND WEEK: Ceramic tile flooring/trim installed; toilet installed; some caulking in bath done; walls painted. Paul was at our house for only a few hours each Weds, and not at all Thurs or Fri. We emailed & called, getting a response Saturday - family emergency. He wanted to come by Sun. but didn't show up. He emailed 7 days later & said to contact him when vanity came in so he could complete the job. --------------------------- A week later, vanity came in. We called him 3 times, & emailed once over about 8 days. He replied 4 days later, said he would be here Mon... but didn't come. He didn't come Tuesday either. We didn't hear from him again until I requested my last Paypal payment of $500 be refunded to pay the NEW contractor who finished the job. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beyond all this: Paul did an excellent job with the tiling, minus the uneven backerboard at the threshold. The drywall seams on ceiling were flawless and the recessed lights look great. He was very clean, putting plastic down, fan in window during drywall sanding, keeping tools organized in bathroom or landing near bathroom, etc. If the pipe would not have shown up, and there been no family emergency or illness on Paul's part maybe the job would have been completed, and done very well.
