DLANGE PLUMBING
Sought out a plumbing company to install a soft water unit, reverse osmosis unit and whole house humidifier in our newly constructed home.  When I called Lange Plumbing they said they could be here whenever I needed.  I told them what I wanted and asked if they could install and they said yes, except for the whole house humidifier (but they would assess that when they got here). The plumber was supposed to be at our home after the morning meeting (around 10:00 a.m.) but did not arrive until around 3:00 p.m.  I was called and informed that there was a delay but 6 hours is just too long.  When the plumber arrived I was informed they could not install the soft water unit because we had an 1 1/4 inch copper pipe and the system we purchased at Lowe's (Consumer Reports best buy) was a 1 inch connecter.  Plumber informed me that he could not reduce the connecter because it was against code.  However he said for $1100 they could have a custom softener built and installed with a 1 1/4 inch copper connection. Regarding the reverse osmosis unit it requires a whole to be drilled in the granite and the plumber said he did not have the drill bit with him and also that he would not want to do it and be responsible for the granite to crack. Regarding the whole home humidifier, he said an AC company should do it as they can do both minor plumbing and attachment of the unit to the air system. The plumber gave me numbers to his "buddies" who could drill the counter and install the whole house humidifier. Well, I had to leave for two weeks and I came back today and went to Lowe's where I bought the soft water unit and reverse osmosis system.  When I asked about the fact the plumber said it could not be installed due to code issues, they said that was incorrect.  I even looked up the plumbers code and could not find any text that stated they could not install.  So I can only assume the company was trying to BS me into purchasing a personal unit at a much higher cost.  Lowe's certified pumpers will be installing our soft water unit next week with the reduction from 1 1/4 to 1 inch and I am certain the certified plumbers know code. I am very disappointed with my experience and could not recommend Lange Plumbing based on this experience.

Rick showed up a little early and gave me a call. I walked over to our rental house and showed Rick around the property. He inspected the entire house to get a feel for the whole system. He then went up on the roof to look at our unit. We had wanted to know if the unit was on its last legs or not. He tested both the heating and the cooling and replaced a contact. Rick was very honest in his assessment of our unit, which dates to 1994. He didn't say that we needed to replace it but instead gave me an idea of which parts might go first and how much that would cost us. I think he spent about an hour or so just looking at the system and evaluating it. He then went over to our residence (one street over) and spent about 1/2 hour figuring out if we could put a humidifier into our duct system. He asked me about the brands I was looking at and said that he would give me a call in a couple of days with an estimate. It is so great to find someone who is honest about heating and a/c. He wasn't trying to go for the big sell with a new unit but instead he was conscientious about making sure I knew my options. In addition, since Rick has worked on older houses in Portland, he wasn't put off by our 50+ year old houses, a rarity in Las Vegas. This was the first time I called Cardinal Air and I won't be calling anyone else in the future.

Working with Home Air Conditioning and Heating has been amazing! Mickey Ferguson is a real pro and a really great guy. When we bought our 6,200 sq ft Las Vegas home in January of 2012, we had no idea how to run the heating and air conditioning system. It has 3 air conditioners, 3 propane furnaces and two evaporative coolers (we had never even seen one of those before). I called more than a dozen heating and air conditioning companies in Las Vegas and nobody wanted to deal with the evaporative coolers except Home Air Conditioning and Heating. When Mickey came out he educated us on how the system worked and got everything fired up and working. He explained the value of the evaporative coolers and how by using them the majority of the year, we could save thousands of dollars in annual air conditioning costs. He adjusted all of the controls so that it basically runs itself and keeps the house temperature consistent no matter what the temperature is outside. And all at the most economical cost possible through the balanced use of our system. Later on he added 2 humidifiers to the system so that the humidity remained consistent as well. Mickey and Home Air Conditioning and Heating have made our home in Las Vegas a real joy to live in. They are extremely honest and trustworthy. Our home in Las Vegas is a second home, and Mickey has his own code to the door so he can maintain our system while we are away. We highly recommend Mickey and Home Air Conditioning and Heating for your air conditioning and heating needs!

Craig, the service manager, did the initial visit and estimate, he obviously is very experienced and knowledgeable. The initial price was a bit high but after a bit of negotiation everything was OK. They referred and coordinated with a plumber to run a water line at reasonable cost. Installation was performed on date agreed upon. They arrived punctually. Troy did most of the installation and seems to have done a good job and didn't leave a mess. Craig was there several times that day to supervise. The installation took longer than expected. Instead of rushing things, they came back the next day to finish things off properly. Very happy with the result - much less noise, highly improved temperature distribution, higher humidity and (hopefully) cleaner indoor air. Had a problem with the humidifier, they came 2 hours after I called, took care of the problem and everthing looks fine.

Once Dave arrived he asked for explanation of the problem, he checked the thermostats first, turned them on, and proceeded to the attic.  Hearing a bit of pinging and banging I was getting nervous thinking 'BIG BILL AHEAD".  However, when Dave came downstairs he smiled and said, "All's well". I asked about the screeching sound he said it was the gas valve and required a slight adjustment but I was going to hear it from time to time as it was adjusted as best could be.  The second unit was working just fine.  Needed time to warm up he indicated. I also asked about the humidifier that is attached to the units and unfortunately Lin-Air does not service these items.  I asked how much he thought it was going to be and he said "just the service call today, $80.00". He was in and out in no time and we have heat.  This company was quick to reply to my request on Angies List via a personal phone call from Brent on Sunday evening. First thing Monday the staff was pleasant and very helpful and the tech knew his stuff.  I am quite pleased with Lin-Air and all their employees!

Original Date 12/22/2011: I called them Monday at about 11AM for an estimate.  At 1PM they were onsite to provide me with an estimate.  At 9AM on Tuesday they were back with a technician to verify that the installation could be done in the way we discussed the previous afternoon.  At 9AM Wednesday both a plumber (to install the water line to the humidifier) was onsite and Aire Serv was onsite to begin the installation.  Due to a missing component from Aprilaire they could not complete the install Wednesday but had the part overnighted.  Aire Serv was back onsite by 5:30PM on Thursday to complete the installation.  At about 7:30PM they completed their work and we parted ways.  Not only were they professional and extremely clean but they were able to perform this installation extremely quickly, much faster than I expected. They also looked at a specialized A/C unit I had that was not functioning (something another Vegas HVAC company refused to do).  With a little guidance from them I was able to get it working again and I will be calling them back to assist with the final installation of this unit. They went above and beyond what I expected from a company.  I would not hesitate to contact them again for any work and already actually have plans to in the coming months. Updated on 12/27/2013:  Over the past two years I have had to have them come out multiple times.  From small issues like troubleshooting why the unit turned off (needed to install a water filter prior in the water line) as the canister was 100% used within 3 months (it has an estimated mfg lifespan of 9-12 months from) to larger ones where the tubing used to carry the steam into the air handler disconnected at a splice midway and caused steam to be expelled into the attic.  The original splice had a great amount of physical pressure on the tubing, was being secured by two clamps however there was no flange to keep it from slowly sliding apart.  This caused it to literally rain up there as the humidity ended up at well over 80%.  The end result of that was half my insulation had to be removed due to the water, theres residual water staining thats visible as well.  The technician came out who was very nice, repaired the splice and corrected its installation but a week following, the same hose attached to the humidifier's canister broke free due to too much pressure (from the hose at its angle, not internal psi).  Although the same technician came out to look at it and said that the hydraulic hose that was used is substantially more than was needed and a basic hose is all that was needed - he was told by his manager that he should have charged me for the previous repair (the splice that came loose) and that he would need to charge me ~$220 to replace this hose this time - the hose they originally installed and I am now being told is not what should have been installed. The best part is this technician was told that since I don't have a service contract anymore (they never contacted me to inform me it was expiring and I had no paperwork on it to know myself) and that since I opened the humidifier myself, they are unable to really warranty anything.  A comment on the humidifier is that the canister is a USER REPLACEABLE piece.  There are two cables and a single hose clamp that attaches it to the unit and is 100% user replaceable so there is nothing I did that is not well within my homeowner rights for maintenance. So although two of the technicians over the 2 years have been great (others not so) and this last one was very nice and understanding of my situation - they are being told by management not to warranty their own work and to charge customers to repair/replace materials that wasn't necessarily the correct materials to install in the first place. For HVAC work I have not had any problems with anything they had done.  For humidification I have had nothing but trouble.  And although as I said - some of the technicians know their stuff and are genuinely concerned and looking to do the installation correct and keep the customer for repeat business - management seems to feel otherwise. I would be more than happy to discuss this with management if they so desired however I will take my business elsewhere at this point regardless.
