Texas Tornado Storm Shelters
Recent Review: After having received a rebate offer from the North Texas Council of Governments, we decided to have an underground tornado shelter installed at our home in Plano. We researched the different types of shelters available, and settled on the concrete type. We were attracted to Texas Tornado Storm Shelters in McKinney due to their sale price on a 6'x8' shelter. Texas Tornado Storm Shelters is a division of Septic Solutions of McKinney. When Chris came out to do the measurements to make sure the shelter would fit on our small lot, we discovered that it would not. We then opted for the 5'x7' flat top shelter, and in hindsight we are glad to have chosen this shelter even though it is more expensive than the larger shelter due to the fact that it is installed deeper underground and the top is basically flush with ground level. A permit is required to install a shelter in Plano, and Chris spent countless hours preparing the papers which helped us obtain the necessary permit and HOA approval. After a couple of false starts due to a delivery problem and the weather, we now have our shelter installed. Chris is amazing with his Bobcat machinery which has multiple attachments, including a high powered jack hammer which was needed when he hit rock a few feet down. The installation went smoothly, and we were all amazed at how the shelter was shoehorned into our small area. There was no room for error, and none was made. Tiffany, the office manager was extremely helpful throughout the process as well. I know that many other companies would have dropped our project because it was too difficult and time consuming, but Texas Tornado Storm Shelters stuck with us, and we couldn't be happier with our shelter. I am confident that they bring this same work ethic and professionalism to their Septic Solutions business as well.

Gimme Shelter
Recent Review: After years of researching storm shelters and waiting on the long list for a state rebate that never would be a reality, I could no longer place a price on my piece of mind. There were many factors affecting my decision to purchase from Gimme Shelter: -These shelters are F5 certified, exceeding FEMA 320, 361, and ICC 500 protocols (these are the shelters that we see featured on the news/weather stations undergoing rigorous testing at Texas A&M) -Taylor (the owner) was obviously passionate about not only providing shelter, but doing so with integrity. No gimmicky add-ons, and no extra charges for placing the door with a bullet-proof window on the long side of my unit. -Gimme Shelter is the ONLY co. that includes a 20 yr. transferrable warranty for full replacement of any shelter that is damaged by a storm/tornado. -Due to the fact that it is now "off-season", installation could be scheduled within the week. -After determining placement in my garage and measuring for fit, Taylor saw that I would have to move a large shelf and various items to make space for the shelter. He rolled up his sleeves (in 100 degree temps) and helped me move everything (even taking several items to the attic). YES, this is a lengthy review, but it was an important decision. I cannot express the relief that comes with knowing that I no longer need to crouch in a closet, hoping for the best. I HAVE the best!

Storm Dorms LLC
Recent Review: John Wingfield came to our home for a description and estimate for the storm shelter. He showed us photos of the effectiveness of their still-standing shelters amid the total devastation of houses hit by a tornado . We had seen some of the same photos in the newspaper and television, along with interviews of people affected by the storms. Many of these people stressed the necessity of having a safe place to go and that a storm shelter is the best choice. I researched and compared prices, and Storm Dorms met or surpassed their competition, Mr. Wingfield showed us pictures of the shelter itself and recommended sizes (he suggested the smallest one for us). He helped us choose  where to put it, and told  us how the shelter works and provided pictures of it inside and outside. His son and a helper put the shelter together, and I was amazed that the process was less than 2 hours with very little noise or  mess, but they cleaned and touched up any little soiled surface. I am so impressed with the quality of the product and the excellence of its installment. I highly recommend Storm Dorms. Peace of mind is priceless!

American Tornado Master
Recent Review: I had initially planned an in-ground garage floor storm shelter, and received two bids, one from American Tornado Master Inc. and another from a North Texas based smaller company that specializes specifically in garage floor storm shelters. I then decided instead to purchase an above ground safe room, as I had the ideal location for one. I then received bids from the same two companies, and chose the cheaper bid from the smaller company. This was a huge mistake. The other small North Texas based company required a down payment of 50%, which is common. The small North Texas based company took my money, and I have had to take legal action to recover the money that I put down. After my experience with the other small North Texas based company, I then called American Tornado Master Inc., and this is where everything went right. The product was more expensive; however, short of having saved my family’s life in a storm (which is a test that I hope to not experience), the safe room is of top quality. The company delivered the product when they said it would arrive, and the installation was done with care and precision. The installers took their time and made sure that the job was done correctly. The safe room’s powder coating even gives it a good appearance. The room comes with three deadbolt locks and two steel interior door braces, making the room impenetrable from the outside. The construction of this safe room is better than what I have seen elsewhere, and the sales pitch about the quality of the product is the real deal in my opinion. American Tornado Master Inc. delivered me a quality product, great service and piece of mind knowing that I have the best constructed safe room available. As for price, the sales professional made it clear that other safe rooms are less expensive, and sold the quality of the product. That initially did not impress me; however, I now believe in the quality of the product. Other companies may claim to sell an equal quality product at a lower price. I would very much recommend that a purchaser of a steel safe room consider this claim with some skepticism and do some research. For this reason, I am giving an “A” rating for price, since I do not feel that I really have an “apples to apples” comparison with other products available in my area. I highly recommend American Tornado Master Inc. for steel above ground safe rooms. I would assume that their other products are of the same quality.

Atlas Safe Rooms Inc
Recent Review: Atlas Safe Rooms is based out of Joplin, MO. The install was to take place in a home located in Haltom City, TX. The price included delivery and assembly of the 4x4 safe room. Delivery was contracted to Beaver Express. They were not equipped to deliver a 1,900 pallet to a home and left the delivery at the end of my driveway. Atlas was able to arrange an installer for the next day so that the product was not on the street for any extended time. Assembly was contracted out to Red Beacon. The installers were not familiar with the product or the installation procedure. What should have taken 1 hour (according to Atlas) instead took 4 hours. The install was not done correctly as the Hilti bolts were not properly installed at the required depth of 3'. Tommy from Atlas drove down from Joplin, MO to reinstall the Hilti bolts for the storm shelter, which required the original bolts be cut off, the unit being moved over a few inches, and new holes/bolts installed. The original sales person I dealt with vanished after the initial call. The young ladies at the main offices were helpful, but not very confident or knowledgeable about the product/process. Tommy was eventually the person I was put in touch with, and he was able to rectify the issues satisfactorily. Only $100 was offered as compensation for the frustrations I experienced. Overall I would recommend Atlas, but would also suggest that if you use them, it would be in your best interest to find out who the delivery company and installers will be and make sure they know exactly where the product is being delivered and that the installers know what they are doing. Side notes: Atlas requires 50% down upon ordering, and the balance upon completion. They do not give invoices, agreements, or bills until After the bill is paid in full. And if you have a lock on your unit, keys are withheld until after payment is received in full.

Whitworth Custom Homes Inc.
Recent Review: Last year, after  a series of hail storms,  I decided  we needed to have our roof checked for damage.  Our insurance company wanted us to get 3 appraisals.  Of course,  I was hoping  there would not be any damage.  Since, Whitworth Custom  homes built our home in 2002,  I called them first.   Mr. Whitworth came the next day.  He checked our roof and said there was no damage.  I thanked him and the next day called two more companies.   The first guy, asked me how old our house was,  I said 12 years old,  he asked me if it was our second roof.   I said no.   He hardly believed me.   He said most houses could use a new roof after 10 years, let alone after 10 years of hail storms.  I even had a skylight, that seemed to be really hailed on continually, one day.  Worried me a lot.    I was very pleased.   Of course, then I was not surprised, in the least when the third gentleman said,  "no, there is not any damage, but that's common in  a  new house, like this".    I said our house was 12 years old,  He was amazed too. I have several customer options to my house, that were designed and recommended by Mr. Whitworth.  Two of  my favorites are the storm shelter strengthening done to our master bedroom closet and our customized hearth:  very artistic and one of a kind, I also recommended him to a friend who had a music studio room added to her home.   Mr. Whitworth's professionalism, dedication, craftsmanship, and punctuality will have me ready to call him and his company any time.   .

we lost our previous home in the tornado that hit Rowlett, TX on Dec 26, 2015. John Wingfield, at StormDorms was very supportive during this time and helped us to work out what type shelter we needed. We looked at several different companies and Storm Dorms had the sturdiest type of shelter. The building inspector said he has seen may storm shelters, but this was the best made he'd seen.

FTornado Tough Tornado Shelters
In mid-March 2015 I found the Tornado Tough Tornado Shelters website and their products looked good as well as their prices so I called.  Tony answered and said that they would need a deposit ($670.00) and that a project manager would contact me within a few days to start get everything rolling and that in a few short weeks we would have our storm shelter completed.  I called about a week later and Tony stated that they would actually contact me after the deposit / transaction actually went through and said that they were very busy with orders. On March 30 I saw that the transaction on the deposit hit my bank and also received an email stating that they received my deposit.  I responded to the email and asked when I would be contacted.  A few days later, I sent another email since I did not get a response.  On April 8 I called Tony, he again said they were so busy and that someone would get in contact with me.  Waited - called and left Tony a voicemail - no response.  Sent emails, no response...and repeat. Fast Forward to Friday, 05/01 04:09p INCOMI CL 479-366-0481  - Tony called - I told him I want my deposit refunded immediately.  Tony said "but your unit is schedule to be installed the week of  May 12".  Really - they are just going to magically drop it in without any prework, planning, etc???  I told Tony that we were not even in town that day and to refund my money.  Tony said he would get someone on it - sure you will Tony, sure you will. The next day, while on the phone with my daughter a truck pulls up to your gate (kind you need a remote control to open - has the hydrolic rod) and he yelled that he was here to mark utilities to install our shelter.  Yelled back and said we cancelled that - this 'man' proceeded to push through our closed gate.  I started yelling get out, get out, do not come in here - get off my property (Scared my daughter).  He proceeds to walk up the drive, through the breezeway and up to my door and said he had to mark for utilities.  All the while I am yelling at him to get out and trying to hold the door because my dogs are trying to push their way through the door (I know, in hindsight I should have done something a little different).  My yelling and the dogs barking got my husband?s attention from the back of our property and he ran up as the guy now pulled on the gate to let himself out.  I believe the company name on the side of the truck was NSIS.  We had to pay the fence guy to come out and fix our front gate because apparently they are not made to forcibly push / pull on them.  It would not close all the way and we need the fence to keep our dogs in and other animals out. Now here we are, June 05, 2015, no refund, zero communication and looks like I will be contacting an attorney. I would stay as far as possible away from this company.

It went like clockwork from the moment I signed the contract, to the delivery, installation, and inspection. The cement truck for example was scheduled to arrive at 3 PM. The installers had finished the site prep, siting and leveling the shelter by 2:30 and used the intervening delay to clear and clean the area. The cement arrived exactly at three. The whole installation took about eight and a half hours. They did internal paint touch up and installed carpeted bench seats and steel stairs and a removable hand rail. There was no high sales pressure. The price was better (by far) than two other estimates from other local providers of similar products. The installation crew was amazing and respectful of my property. The product itself has all the appropriate ratings and testing.
