Recent Review: We called Fitzsimmons because they were so highly rated on Angie's List. We were initially considering a retractable awning, but told John when he came out that we were open to all suggestions. He suggested a stationary awning for our situation. He showed us fabrics and made suggestions based on what we had in mind. In the end, we went with the stationary awning with black fabric.  John told us it could be up six weeks before installation. We had, after all, waited until his busiest time of the year to call him. We called in the 5th week to get an update and he said it would be Thursday of the following week. And Thursday it was! His crew was very professional and had the awning in place in less than 2 hours. We love it! It looks very nice and although we were concerned about black being hot, it really isn't. If it radiates heat, we can't tell it. This past weekend, we had an all-day rain. We were able to sit on our deck, drink wine, and watch the rain in comfort for 2 hours. Our deck was virtually unusable most of the time because the sun beat down on it for most of  the day. The awning has made it a great space to spend time. The fabric has a 10 year prorated warranty. John told us the cost of replacement would be about 1/2 of the original job, but to keep in mind that is many years down the road.  They did a very nice job and I would recommend them.  This Angie's List stuff works!

Reviews in Cincinnati to Install Retractable Awnings

AQUEEN CITY AWNING
It went very well. I contacted them and they came and gave an estimate. I accepted and chose the fabric for my awning. They installed the awning, showed up on time and everything went well.

From the beginning the install was difficult. I told the installer that the awning was crooked and they told be the problem was my mortar line was not straight. After two years I also noticed that the awning was banging hard against the house during storms. After a couple of winters with the banging, I noticed a bracket was installed in front of one of the retractable arms. The arm kept hitting the bracket. For the last three years I have been fighting with the company owner about fixing it for free since it was installed wrong to begin with. They keep insisting that I pay them. Someone is coming out soon and I am paying them, but I don't recommend this company to anyone. Their customer service stinks!

AQUEEN CITY AWNING
The individual who came to do the estimate was very knowledgable and responsive in follow-up calls. We ordered the awning and blind and both were installed as scheduled. We are very happy with the product. We did have a small issue with the blind retracting on its own as a result of an issue with the automatic retractor device. This device fell off of the blind during one of the very hot days we had earlier this summer. We placed the device in a cupboard and it later came apart. Soon after it came apart the blind began to retract on its own. I called the company to ask them to help me understand and fix this problem. It took two days for them to return my call. By the time the call was returned my husband had reassembled the device and we had not had any spontaneous retractions in a day. I asked the service person to find out if what we thought was the problem could have actually been the problem or if there was something else that needed to be checked. I also asked how to reattach the automatic retractor device that had fallen off the blind structure. She said she would get back to me. When I did not hear from her the next day I sent an email. She responded on how to reattach the device but I didn't really get any feeback on the original problem. Since the blind hasn't retracted in the last few days this is pretty moot. However, it would have been nice to have a little more sense that they were interested in helping address my concerns. In the overall scheme of things I was very happy with the work. I do wonder about how future service needs may be handled.

CQUEEN CITY AWNING
I purchased a retractable awning from Queen City Awning in April 2011. In May of 2012 it stopped working. When I called QC Awning, I was told that the warranty expired end-April and that a Service Call would be $90 + any parts except the motor which was still under warranty. I set up the appointment. The night prior to the service call, a message was left on my answering machine that said, Please call us with your credit card number. You must prepay $105 for the FIRST 15 MINUTES OF THE SERVICE CALL. i called back and left a message that this was not a reasonable request -- I don't give out my credit card number over the phone nor do I pay for services before performed. The service crew (3) showed up an hour and 15 minutes late. They replaced the motor because, and quot;they had no idea what the problem was.and quot; This cost $282. The awning does now retract but not smoothly. At the end one of the arms flops back to settle in. I showed the repair guy this and he said, and quot;well it works. There are conflicting forces at play here...and quot; Net, he left it as is. I feel the cost of the repair was unreasonably high. I believe they charged me $90 for first 15 minutes and then $64 for each of the next 3, 15 minute periods. I say, I believeand quot; because they did not leave a copy of the invoice. Just gave it to me for my signature, took my check and left. Yes, the awning now works but the workmanship was poor and I was overcharged, in my opinion. I paid over $3,000 for the awning. It stopped working one month after the warranty expired and they charged me almost $300 to fix it. Had I known the cost of a service call for QC Awning, I would have purchased my awning elsewhere.

Installer arrived on time and installed the awning in one afternoon as quoted.  Installation was done professionally with no problems and the awning is working perfectly.

AQUEEN CITY AWNING
Having tried to use another nationally known awning company who apparently had no interest in even returning my calls I contacted Queen City Awning (a local company) and was amazed with the level of customer service from the person taking my initial call to Kelly, the marketing rep right back to the contact and updates provided by the company to the installers. After my first attempt with the other company I was totally satisfied with customer service. As to the product it looks great, adds to the house and is providing the coverage and comfort we were expecting. Definitely would recommend and use them again.

The awning is incredible. It is so quiet, & opens & closes at the touch of a button. It really does operate as smoothly as it did at the Home & Garden Show. Dan The Doorman came back out to adjust the awning once after we had a very heavy rainfall. They showed us how to adjust it ourselves. It's pretty simple. We love our automatic awning! Dan The Doorman was very helpful in selecting canvas colors & frame colors that would accentuate the trim on the house.

They called me either the day before or two days before that they were coming to install my awnings. I did not need to be home, which was good, because I had a lot going on at work that day. My awnings looked great when I came home.
