Recent Review: Tim Cook comes across as a skilled carpenter, is very professional and super responsive. After our initial call, he came out to our house to see our backyard and what we were thinking. At the time, our plans were uncertain but he offered several ideas and presented us with a plan and several options, all very quickly and via email. We eventually hired Gayle Frazer (landscape architect) to help us design the entire backyard. Once we had a sketch, I forwarded it to Tim as he quickly requoted the job, again by email. We had 2 other quotes and Tim was the best. We didn't go with him in the end, only because we hired one person who could do our deck, landscaping and concrete removal all at the same time.

Recent Review: The work done was professional and the workers were prompt and did quality work. They also cleaned up the worksite after the project was complete. On the down side, the owner kept postponing the start of the project and was not responsive to phone calls. Because it was not a huge project it was to be worked in between other projects.

Recent Review: When I called Art Neal for an estimate, I wasn't even sure what I needed him to do! I only knew that my back yard was pooling water in heavy rain and that to my eyes the whole yard was an eyesore and needed serious help. A  year ago I had pulled out the large bushes on one side of my front garden, but knew I was unable to take on the other side with many more bushes, which wrapped around the side of the house.  Art looked everything over, talked to me in his steady and quiet manner, and together we worked out a plan to take on the most serious problems now, and plan for other projects in the future.  Although I have a smallish house and city-sized yard, the previous owners had built three decks at different levels -- the large (18x30ft) deck which I wanted to keep, and two smaller decks that had been built around several large trees; the trees had grown significantly and were cut into by the decking.  So the biggest job was to remove those two decks and fill in that area and about 1/2 of my back yard to raise the yard to even with my neighbor's and level it out to eliminate the water pooling.  While they were working on the removal phase, Art and Erin unearthed and saved a number of larger natural stones which they later used to ring the trees and place in the front gardens.  Then they pulled out the large bushes.  They cleaned up the area and hauled it all away.  I felt very confident leaving Art in charge and went on my planned vacation with my family.  When I returned, all of the flower beds had been cleaned out and mulched, and the remaining plantings moved around; the front fence and steps painted; and all the fence line clear and clean.  What was left to do was the huge dirt-moving phase, and that they handled in one day!  Did I mention how hard Art and Erin work on a job?  They come early and work straight through until they've accomplished everything they planned for the day!  Just like in all the other work, again Art did more than he had to.  In addition to the work in the back yard, he noticed that one of the big old trees in the front had too much root growth above ground and filled in around that tree, and another one in similar condition in the back.  When all of the dirt was in place, Art seeded and put down straw to cover.  Soon I should have new grass coming up, and next spring I should have no more water problems due to my yard being lower than those of my neighbors.  Whenever we'd talk, Art always told me, "You're going to love the way this turns out.  'Cause if you don't we'll fix it until you do."  Well, he was right:  I do love the way it turned out and he didn't need to "fix" anything because he did it all beautifully to start with.  As a single woman of an age where I don't take on some of the jobs I might have tried myself in years past, I appreciated that Art talked honestly with me and did not ever talk down to me.  If I didn't understand some aspect, he patiently explained.  His estimate was extremely close to the final cost, with the only difference being the amount of additional dirt which we discovered was needed when those two decks were pulled out.  When I am ready to put in new plantings, you can bet I will call Art again.  And I am looking forward to getting an estimate soon on resurfacing my remaining deck.  I can actually enjoy being outside in my yard now, and the upkeep is manageable for me.  I highly recommend calling Art for yard and deck work.

I would not refer Joe for any composite deck work. While he did claim to have worked with composite materials before, it became apparent early on that this was not the case. Joe and his partner used fascia screws in solid deck boards resulting in over $300 of wasted materials. Additionally, the cuts were poor and not square. He did not keep a clean workspace and left screws all around my deck and lawn. I had to let Joe go before completion of the project. While he did cover a portion of the materials damaged, hiring Joe will set my deck project back months.

ABuilding Character LLC
the building character team provided the most timely, complete and thorough quotation package (of 6 solicited), the most competitive pricing, and FAR exceeded our expectations. we are very particular customers and were finding that the building character team was caring for details and nuances that even we were not thinking of!! the deck was built very very solidly, with top quality materials. it is simply beautiful, perfectly detailed, and really exceeded our expectations. we love it. as important as the quality of their work, the team was courteous, patient, timely and very polite. there was no stress working with them at all. they are true professionals as evidenced by not only their workmanship, but how they conduct business. it was a pleasure working with them and we would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone seeking a new deck!

APatio Enclosures
We got several quotes from different companies.  This was the best deal.  They were also extremely responsive to our questions, and patient with our decision process.  They worked well and quickly, and the people doing the work were very responsible and responsive to questions.  They worked hard to make it fit our needs.  We absolutely love the end product.

Fantastic!  Phil, our deck technician, arrived on a Saturday morning and dove right in.  I was amazed at how quickly the new deck took shape.    I had a "trap door" in the old deck that slides off the main deck that allows us to use the basement stairs.  I  was concerned about the re-construction of this feature for it was something I considered "tricky".  Phil nailed this slide out feature and installed for me a beautiful new deck.  He had a helper on day one and finished by himself on day two.  They worked on a Saturday and Sunday so I did not have to take any time off work.  They removed all the old, dead wood and cleaned up probably more so then I would have.  I had the deck rebuilt for I intend on selling this house sometime next year.  It kind of makes me sad that I will not be able to spend more time on this beautiful new deck.  If my new house needs any deck construction or work I will call Mike and Phil first thing without worrying about calling any others!

ACOMBS BUILDERS INC
This project went well from start to finish. Combs Builders was recommended to us by friends who had their home built by them. After discussing the project with Rob Combs, an estimate was promptly submitted and accepted by us. A start date was agreed to and that was when the project started. (On time - imagine that) The project was finished on time and on budget. This was one of those rare experiences when the results were better than anticipated. We couldn't be happier. We're now discussing a storage shed project with these folks.

AEdwards Construction Inc
I received quotes from multiple contractors, and Edwards was the least expensive.  I was hesitant because of the cost and the fact that Ed thought out of the box on the design.  However the references were glowing, and after one of the references had us look at her deck we went with Edwards.  Ed told us the deck work would be about the end of September and he was on schedule.  His crew was polite, knowledgeable, and professional.  This was not a fly by night crew, or one that was learning on the job.  The deck was torn down and rebuilt in a little under 5 days.  I too have joined the list of those who can give glowing recommendations of Edwards Construction!

About 10 years ago, we had Edwards Construction install a new wood deck for our house.  We originally wanted a Trex deck so that it would be easier to maintain, but Ed Miller talked us into an Indonesian mahogany instead, claiming that it would be as low maintenance as Trex but look much better.  He said that if we diligently stained it every year for about 5 years, after that the stain would "petrify" the wood and we would no longer have to stain it.  So we tried to diligently stain it every year, only to find that the wood would not absorb stain and that a few months after staining it, the stain would start to peel off.   We also wanted him to screw the boards down, but he said that nailing would be just as good, so we again trusted his expertise and went with nails.  And within a couple of years, we had nails popping out that we had to constantly hammer back down every year otherwise we were in danger of impaling our feet on nails that in one season would pop out 2-3 inches. And now we've found that one of the main support posts, and all the front faces of the wooden steps that contact the ground and the sides of all the flower boxes that were built into the side of the deck have majorly rotted away.  Admittedly it's been 10 years, but I would hope that the wood would not be completely rotting away in just 10 years.  We contacted Ed to ask about the rotting wood, and his response was that it was 10 years old and he couldn't guarantee the integrity of 10 year old wood and that most likely it was just a bad lot of wood that hadn't been pressure treated properly.  He said he would come out to take a look at it to give us a quote for fixing it, but he never showed up.   And when we also complained about the difficulties in staining it, he admitted that he had no idea at the time when he recommended the wood to us that it would not absorb stain.  And in fact another customer of his who also had him build a deck of the same wood has had the same problems with staining and has resorting to staining TWICE a year. Since then we've had another deck company come to give us a quote for fixing the deck and he said he's never seen rot that bad in as short as 10 years.  All in all, you couldn't pay me to have Edwards Construction ever again build anything for my house.  I would tell my friends to never, ever use his services because he lies to you, uses shoddy materials that don't hold up and then doesn't even have the integrity to come and look at it to give you a quote for fixing it (even if it has been 10 years).
