We moved into a new house 4 weeks ago and noticed an odd smell that would not go away. The smell was heavy near the front door and in the kitchen. There's a crawl space so we assumed that was the problem. I had mold specialists, Perma Seal (it's in the crawl space) and plumbers come out to locate the smell with no luck. Then one Sunday I walked by the gas line coming into our house and faintly smelled gas. I called Wayne that morning and he was at our house early in the afternoon, again this was a Sunday. Wayne used his gas sniffer, found leaks in two places and repaired them very quickly. Gas leaks that had been there for years. He also inspected the rest of the gas lines in the basement, connecting to our stove, and offered advice for plumbing in both bathrooms. Wayne was patient, skilled, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend him and his company. PS: Smell gone. Friends are now welcome to visit.

We had a leak and the gas company came out to verify and they shut off our gas. The gas lines were behind an HVAC duct so no regular plumber would touch it unless an HVAC person would first remove ducts for access. We signed up for Angie's list just to find someone that could handle both. Found Perrin Gas and everything worked out! Eric was friendly, efficient, and honest. Every company that was initially recommended to us said they wouldn't touch it unless an HVAC company came in first to rip out our furnace and ducts so gas lines could be reached. Eric came right in, no fuss, did a pressure test. detected more leaks than the gas company did in less time than the other companies took to write an estimate. Fixed everything by himself in a couple of hours with NO DRAMA of "how difficult the task was". Will be recommending him to anyone that needs a gas leak fixed.

ANew Vista Heating & Air Conditioning
Purchased a new house and the furnace wouldn't turn on. Called Terry at New Vista. He easily figured out the thermostat was broken. Based on our inspection, it also had some design issues with the flu and gas line. They provide a great quote to fix everything and install a new thermostat. His technician Johnathan did a great job. They were clean and professional. I will use them for all my Heating & AC work.

Sump-pump repair was sloppy, but completed. Gas line repair was horrible! Work completed, gas company still detects gas leak. This company blames issue on gas company. Charges $185/hour for repair. Gas company even says this is a rip-off...but due to the emergency we had no other choice

APorterhouse Heating & Cooling
I was very impressed with Porterhouse. Two gentlemen showed up promptly and assessed the situation even trying to improve upon what I had asked for. They dug up, ran new piping, and had my grill fired up in only a couple of hours. They were the third company I had out but the first that didn't mind doing the work and affordable!

AVAN DER BOSCH INC
It was good. They gave me an estimate in advance and stuck to it. They were prompt, professional, and very capable. There were no issues and no problems with the job.
Recent Review: RJ Graham was very professional and prompt in there dealings with me. We hired them to extend an existing interior gas line to a different area of the house, through the exterior wall, and install a valve outside to be used with our grill. I was not available at the time they came take a look at the job and provide an estimate, they walked my wife(novice in home repair) through the entire process until she was comfortable with everything. Their work was clean, professional, and timely. I could not be any more happy with the end results and they will be the first call I make if I ever need a plumber.
Recent Review: Vanguard has performed quite a few jobs for us over the past several years, starting with a simple clogged drain, but has also included sewer line clearing, leak fixes, gas line installation, and eventually, full plumbing for a kitchen and bathroom remodel project, which involved replaced old deteriorating original plumbing in our bungalow with new copper and PVC as well as installing new fixtures. The work has always been performed professionally with meticulous care and I've had no complaints. Overall, I have found Vanguard to be a great company that combines skilled and honest service for a fair price. Jan, the owner, is extremely knowledgable and will always present several options to solve the problem at hand, the pros and cons of each approach and his recommendation. He is personable, fair, reliable and truly cares about his work -- great qualities that foster a true relationship built on trust. We have been extremely satisfied with Vanguard's work and service and I recommend them highly.
Recent Review: I sent an e-mail to Fine Gas Repair who responded by phone the next day to ask what the project entailed. NOTE: due to high auto fuel prices they attempt to do quotes from the office for smaller jobs when possible. This is understandable considering the time and money that would be involved in traveling 30 miles roundtrip for such a small job. They quoted me $250, which was $150 cheaper than the other quote that I got where the contractor DID do an in-house estimate. Don't be fooled by "free estimate" claims, contractors build these in-home visits into their final price. If they didn't, they would lose money on every job they didn't get. Dan showed up on-time and did a great job with moving my old gas line to the new location in the kitchen. He took the time to make sure the new line was as snug to the walls and basement ceiling as possible, which will make it easier to hide when the basement is remodeled. All the pipe from the old range line was removed and prior to leaving, Dan checked all the gas lines to make sure no leaks resulted when the pipes were jostled around during the install. Two leaks were found - one near our furnace which had nothing to do with his installation. Repairing the leaks took Dan an additional hour because he took apart the connections, reapplied teflon tape to all and changed out old shut-off valves and some additional pipe to make everything fit together nicely. A refreshing thing was Dan actually asked me if charging me an additional hour of labor was fair for the extra work. He threw in all the additional materials (pipe and valves) for free.
Recent Review: After a quick free estimate, Jim was scheduled to run a natural gas line for a gas grill on an outdoor patio. Scheduling was quick and easy. He arrived as scheduled and finished the job in the time he had estimated. Everyone was professional and courteous throughout. I would hire R.A. Mechanical in the future and would recommend them to friends.

Recent Review: We met Mark at a very difficult point in the remodel of our SFH. We had hired a General Contractor to handle the carpentry, plumbing, kitchen and bathroom remodeling work (we have written a separate review on that company elsewhere on Angie's List). More than three months after the bathrooms had been demolished back to the studs (and after paying $40,000) we were first informed by the GC that the bath fixtures would need to be vented at an additional cost to us of nearly $6,000. We had already begun to lose faith in the GC at that point due to numerous delays and their other attempts to significantly expand the scope and cost of the contract and so were reluctant to rely on them to do the plumbing work. Mark came to the house to give us an estimate and quickly identified the work needed to prepare the bathrooms and kitchen for finishing. Not only was his price extremely fair, I particularly liked the fact that Mark gave us a figure to include any additional plumbing work that might be needed to make everything right and pass inspection. We went with Mark and he actually began work over the Thanksgiving week. He and his assistant were punctual, professional, hardworking, and communicative, keeping us advised on the project at all times. They accomplished more in three weeks than the GC had done in three months (which was next to nothing). We are now ready for rough inspection to be followed by the setting of the remaining fixtures. I have little doubt that the balance of the project will go smoothly. For those Angie's List subscribers old enough to remember the day when plumbers took pride in their work, completed the job on time and at a fair price, you cannot do better than Mark Kolecke Plumbing. I wish we could give him a triple-A rating.
Recent Review: When I bought a very old house with an 18 year old furnace and AC, I knew it would need immediate replacement. Reeder helped me pick the best options for my home, by dual-zoning my system and putting in 2 smaller ACs and 2 smaller furnaces. Reeder fit a small furnace in a small attic mechanical closet that other companies said was impossible, and they also added additional vents in order to address persistently cold rooms. Reeder moved thermostats to make sure they were getting a more accurate read on the room temperatures, and in anticipation of a 3rd floor renovation, they installed a gas line and dryer vent at a much more reasonable price than my general contractor was able to do. 10 months later, I can safely say that Reeder has made a 100+ year old drafty home into a comfortable space, that is warm when it is cold out and cool when it's hot out. Their technicians were always on time, answered my many questions, got along with my big crazy dog, and did a great job. The moment I raised concerns, they were addressed, and they made sure to work out any small hiccup that came along. I was so satisfied, that I hired Reeder later in the year to install a tankless hot water heater, which I am also very happy with. I recommend them with enthusiasm.
Recent Review: I had an issue with my upper level bathroom which leaked water below and caused the lower level ceiling to collapse. I had a home warrantee, but they were unable o resolve the problem after 1.5 years so I called Lake Cook Plumbing. The following day, Phil arrived and did an extremely thorough inspection. He wrote up 3 separate estimates. We asked him to do all of the work he proposed. He not only did an exceptional job, he taught us a number of items being we are new home owners. The price is high but you get what you pay for. Glad we had Phil.
