Recent Review: I'd worked with Tom on our flooring, and once that was done we were ready to install our kitchen cabinets, and he was available, so we hired him for that work as well. Overall the work spanned 6 days, but not full 8 hour days each day (or every day in that span -- I don't recall exactly). There were a LOT of complications, so in the end it was not an easy job. And we were not in a rush, so we weren't expecting Tom to rush through the work. But more important, we were in a financial pinch, so we really needed someone willing to do as much work as we could afford and help stage us to be able to finish the rest, and Tom was incredibly understanding and supportive in that regard. The challenges -- 1. galley kitchen that was 1/2" short of 8' for half of it, and then the second half was on a floor that sloped downward. 2. 4 units were incorrect and unreturnable, and two required major customizations 3. One room feature required additional modifications to a pantry unit (this one was a known task in advance) 4. units put directly next to walls would rub the wall when the doors were opened, so always needed 1/2" spacer strips made 5. the cabinets we purchased were not of high quality, so units rarely fit side-by-side easily Tom showed up on time on the first day we agreed to work, and set to work immediately. He does not waste time when he's "on the clock." Part of helping prep me for eventually finishing the job, he made a point of explaining some of the thought-process behind each measuring step and positioning the units. We progressed methodically through the longest wall, eventually adapting to the sloping floor. The end result was an absolutely level 20' run of cabinet tops -- when we had our counter tops installed, there were zero complications, which I think is a testament to the work Tom put into making sure that run was perfect. On the shorter side of the room, we had to install two 8' pantries. They needed to be cut shallower (because they were incorrect units), and then notched for an exposed pipe in the wall. Tom worked through those modifications and they ended up installing perfectly square and stable. At that point I had to take over the remaining units which were, by then, relatively simple. With Tom's instructions I was able to tackle the remaining 6 units (Tom installed 18, including the two 8' pantries). So overall the the work spanned a Monday through a Saturday, and I was able to finish the last units on that Sunday. And as noted above, there were no issues requiring rework or adjustments. The collaborative and friendly style Tom has was invaluable to me, and is a big reason I'd readily hire him again for any work I needed done.
