Recent Review: Wes and Gustavo did a great job on my house. They painted the entire exterior of the house, deck handrails, and pool house. I found very few companies that wanted to take on the height of my house in the backyard. These guys were neat, replaced more wood than we initially thought, and even came back to take care of a couple small detailed items that were missed. Overall great experience that I will share with my friends and neighbors.

Recent Review: He did wonderfully and the price was good. Another place I got a price from estimated almost twice as much. He does quality work so I'm hiring him to build a pool house. He doesn't charge for the little things that I don't mean much because he wants my next job.

Patrick kept all his appointments with us, and returned every call promptly. He was very open to us doing some sweat equity to keep the costs down, and even helped us make some decisions about ways to do things. Anytime there was a problem with a sub, Patrick was on it right away. At the same time as the construction, we had a pool installed. Patrick worked with the pool company to achieve the look we wanted. He paid very close attention to detail and even though our project was small, he treated us as though we were building a million dollar home. He also gave us copies of all invoices that he received so we never felt like we were in the dark about where the money was going. I come to trust Patrick to the point where I gave him a key to our back door in case he ever needed access to the electric panel while I was not home.

APorch-Life
Our old deck was literally rotting away in places.  I knew I wanted something that was as low maintenance as possible and have learned through experience you either pay now or pay down the road; I knew I wanted to pay now.  I did a lot of research both on companies in the area and the materials I wanted to use.  End result, I chose Southern Home Improvement (Porch-Life) as the contractor and Trex as the material.  Just a couple of notes: - Brian is outstanding to work with.  He's professional, prompt, and if he says he's going to do something, it gets done.  He's also very honest.  As an example, when I was researching Trex and was concerned about online reviews I had read, Brian referred me to a competitor that had displays of Trex outdoors in order to alleviate my concerns.  In short, compared with the vast majority of contractors I've worked, Brian was by far the most professional. - The work his crew did was outstanding.  The deck is beautiful, the craftsmanship is excellent, and just as important, as with all large projects, there were inevitably decisions that come up about getting things right.  Brian's foreman Tino was great to work with.  As a side note, my brother-in-law (who builds homes) came to visit a few days ago and remarked how professional the craftsmanship is. - One comment about material.  If you haven't researched deck materials, essentially you have three choices; composites like Trex, hardwoods and pressure treated pine.  Everyone's tastes and budgets are different, but I can tell you without hesitation I am thrilled with Trex and the way it looks.

CEssex Homes
Essex works like most home builders. They have the 1 year warranty period where they make repairs. They have a great reputation and are known for building 4 sided brick homes (no longer the case). We purchased an Essex home because the price, standard options, location and reviews. We are happy with our home but Essex was lacking in some areas. They do build homes without prefab construction and they do offer upgraded options at a good price like granite counter tops, coffered and vaulted  ceilings, tile and hardwood floors. We had some issues with warranties. They pushed back on tile having grout. Was told to scrape off on our own, ha. Some shingles blew off in 30 mph winds and were told "it just happens sometimes", our appliaces (Fridgedair) are not holding up. The worst is the carpet they used, it is not holding up and we have been there a year. I feel like Essex is lacking in some areas but we are happy with our home. It's going to require some work and like i said we have only been living in it for a year. Essex has been ok to deal with on some things but they should get on contractors more. I feel like their contractors run the show. Maybe it's because they are a smaller builder. I know it's not always the case with larger builders.

AKOLBY CONSTRUCTION
Phil was very professional from the start to finish. They cleaned up every single day, so other than the obvious repairs, or some neatly stacked equipment, you would not have known they were there. They did everything they said they were going to and did a good job of communicating with us. Let me say that even though the job cost more and took longer, it was because they did such a thorough job, they found things that had been overlooked during the inspection. The dormer windows had much more structural damage than initially  suspected, so we had them repair them properly. Once they had fixed the identified wiring/electrical problems, we had them do some additional work while they were there. We had initially put down a deposit and had an ongoing tally of additional expenses (including things we added while they were here). When it came time to write them a check, Phil pointed out that he had overestimated a repair and that I needed to reduce the final amount. We fully intend to use them again, and highly recommend Kolby Construction again in the future.
