Recent Review: Over the past nine years we have hired J for many jobs on our home. He is the Best!!! J does quality work at great price. We first me J when he replaced some old window trim on our house. We then hired him to finish our basement where he did excellent framing and drywall work. The drop ceiling he did came out perfect. Later one we hired J to put a wheelchair ramp on my parents' home. Again, it came out perfect. When it came time to replace the windows on our house, J was the man. Worked fast and they came out great--of course. We have recommended J to many friends and they have all have been as happy as we are.

First Reliable Remodeing
Recent Review: We will never hire Enoch again and I will provide some examples herein of why. But, first, they seem to have been able to do a competent job with flooring and baseboard and replacing rotted trim, so that's a plus in their favor and we would want to give them their dues for that.  Enoch's company was supposed to redo our basement drop ceiling amongst other things, including redoing much of the basement electric and they had problems completing some of the work on time and we didn't like some of the work they did. They failed to pass electric inspection 2ce.  The drop ceiling that they put in looks shabby in our opinion (some panels hanging down or drooping around the edges) and we will probably hire someone else to recreate part of the ceiling.     We seemed to have problems with electricians showing up. The first time they were supposed to come back after not passing the electric inspection (for a 2nd time), no one showed up and no one responded to my messages until 5 days later when Enoch explained it was because his mom was in the hospital. He then told me a 2nd date that the would come with his electrician the following week. On this date--the 2nd time-- I asked him on the day he was supposed to show up for a more specific ETA and he said they weren't coming at all that day because they were too busy on another job (they were now about 2 months overdue from when we expected them to be finished with out job). The 3rd time he was supposed to show up the week following the 2nd cancellation, he claimed his electrician had a family emergency (so no one came that day). The 4th time, Enoch came over 2 hours later than he said he would and didn't bring the electrician (he said we had misunderstood and the electrician was never supposed to come that day).     We asked them to allow us to hire another electrician to complete the work to code and deduct the payment we would pay the other electrician and Enoch said we could go ahead and have our electrician do the work, but when he found out how much it would be (as well as some material costs we had incurred for some other things), he complained and attacked my husband's integrity via email (which made no sense to us because we only proposed to withhold remitting to him exactly what we would pay to fix the problems we felt were left at the time and actually sent him copies of the estimate and receipts we had gotten). The 5th and final time that we thought the electrician would come, the electrician did show up, but Enoch was half an hour late (he called my husband and made the excuse that he was at the store buying some part and his electricians were going to call him to tell him the part, even knowing that my husband had chosen the early time because my husband had to get to work.) The electricians were new electricians (whom we hadn't seen before) and that we understood had not worked with Enoch much before (they were not the electrician whose name appeared on the permit and to our knowledge didn't pull a new permit) and the electricians told my husband before Enoch showed up that the electric work had not been done completely properly, agreed that the ceiling Enoch's men had put in didn't look good, and said that Enoch had underestimated the scope of the work to them (Enoch had reportedly told them a couple of hours, but these electricians--as well as our own electricians who had quoted the job--estimated it would possibly take north of 4 hours.) Unfortunately, because of my husband's and my schedule, we had just south of 4 hours to devote to the electric on that day and Enoch asked why we couldn't leave them alone in our house and they would lock up and my husband pointed out that we had allowed them into the house only before we moved in and changed the locks and that we didn't know these electricians (and weren't even sure Enoch knew these electricians). Not to mention, given the state our basement had been left in before by Enoch's crew (sometimes a little messy, with shavings here and there), we didn't want to let them leave before we made sure everything was ok (which we felt required our presence at the end of the work). So, given all of the trouble in getting them to come out, instead, Enoch and my husband finally agreed that we would have our own electricians do the work and Enoch would sign a waiver of lien for part of the remaining balance due at completion and my husband would pay him part. My husband asked for Enoch's contractor's license # to put on the waiver of lien, but Enoch did not provide it to him. Another of the issues was a door First Reliable Remodeling was supposed to install. They 2ce ordered the door--taking 3-4 weeks each time to arrive, Enoch said--and both times the door was the wrong entry swing. We asked if we could order the door ourselves and within 2 weeks of ordering it we had the correct door at our house. Enoch asked for portions of the final payment that was meant to be due at the time of project completion before the project was actually completed. My husband was trying to be nice, so he advanced him half of the final payment on the condition, of course, that the work be completed. However, Enoch then did some more work and asked my husband for more of the final payment, which my husband refused, since it wasn't due until the project was completed, and told Enoch that he would pay it when the job was completed. All in all, I'm sure this isn't the worst experience anyone has ever had with a contractor, but it is one we would not want to repeat. Our lasting impression is that Enoch talks a good game, but in our case didn't deliver everything the way we expected it to be delivered or when we expected it to be delivered.

Recent Review: We hired Tom Curren Companies on the recommendation of a friend of a friend. We needed to have a tub and shower enclosure tiled and a drop ceiling panels replaced. We were very pleased with everyone who was involved in this project. We had the old tiles removed and replaced. The new ones were a perfect match. The workman were very professional, arrived on time and always did a great job with the clean up.The finished product looks great. We especially like the suggestions made such as installing grab bars. A great idea which we had not thought of. Replacing the ceiling panels took no time at all and they too look great. A very though job..... from our first meeting to go over the estimate to the last clean up. We would  highly recommend this company.

Mike's Maintenance
Recent Review: A and quot;straight Aand quot; score just doesn't say it well enough. In brief, I was exceedingly pleased with Mike and the excellent work done for me. He was the first to respond to several inquiries I sent out to different companies and he returned my phone call literally within a few hours of my posting my request. I followed up with a phone call and found Mike to be exceedingly polite and knowledgeable. He arrived very punctually at my home for the estimate and I was sufficiently impressed when I received it by email the next day to hire Mike for the job. Because of a significant health issue I am dealing with, my wife and I were pressed for time before my hospitalization and Mike was able to work us into his schedule within just 2 days! He provided a materials list for me and I made the purchase of the supplies for the project and Mike arranged to pick them up. So far everything was going exceedingly well. This trend continued. Mike and his assistant arrived on time on the day promised and immediately began work. Both gentlemen were clean, polite and obviously skilled at performing the task at hand, installing a drop ceiling. I had a medical appointment that day but I felt totally comfortable leaving the gentlemen in my home while I was away. I was very pleased with the progress of the project when I got home. The work continued for most of the day and was beautifully completed in every aspect, including a few creative and quot;adaptationsand quot; that the ceiling required so as not to partially block a window. At the end of the day, there was just 1 small piece that needed work and an additional part and this was completed beautifully early the next morning. I can say in all honesty that this was a totally aggrevation-free event and everything was completed very professionally and most importantly, promptly, including a thorough clean up. Mike's Maintenance is a top notch company and one that I will use again when the occasion arises. Ten gold stars for Mike's Maintenance!!!!

Recent Review: We originally contacted Tony to do some framing for a new drywall ceiling in the function hall of an old church.  The old plaster ceiling had been covered over with acoustic tile on strapping years ago, and the whole ceiling was beginning to sag and fail.  Tony came out, assessed the situation and provided a quote.  He also suggested looking into a drop ceiling as an alternative.  Given the challenges of framing in an old building, and that the drop ceiling would save us considerable time and money on the project (along with several other pluses), we chose the drop ceiling option.  Tony got the job done efficiently, provided us regular updates, and help us coordinate work with our electrician.  The final result was much better than we imagined!  The ceiling looks great, and we are very happy with the work that was done.

ACJ's Finish Carpentry
Chris was great.  We had some cabinets that we needed hung in our bar/basement area. The cabinets were both on the bottom and top...8 in total.  He needed to raise all the cabinets to line up with an existing wall so we can have granite installed on both.  He did a seemless job.  He also fixed a drop ceiling that we have in our basement and reinforced a side wall to prepare for granite to be mounted on top.  He really knows what he is doing, he finished all in 1 day and his prices are competitive.  I would recommend him and I am bringing him back for some other odds and ends in the future.

My wife and I recently purchased an old home. Portions of the downstairs had been renovated by previous owners, but the dining room had a dropped ceiling and plaster walls that were damaged in many spots. We had several service providers take a look at repairing it, including Marcio. Several other companies suggested simply going over everything with drywall -- while slightly cheaper, we decided it was better to go with Marcio's ideas, which boiled down to repairing the old plaster where possible. He and his crew removed the old dropped ceiling. Then, he brought in a plasterer who did a wonderful job of repairing the walls and putting in a new ceiling. I'm no pro when it comes to the specifics, but they used a combination of real plaster and replacement/skim coat depending on the condition of the wall. It came out looking beautiful. Marcio and his crew then painted the walls, and it looks like a totally new room.
