Recent Review: there were make shift doors already in place. what i wanted originally was to make those doors fit better and have a lock placed on them. a pad lock or something would have been fine. it was suggested by bob that the doors be replaced by proper doors (cutting one premade door in half and installing hardware). we talked about it, i was given a price of around $300, which felt like a lot to me since there were already doors there, but i decided to go ahead with it anyway. bob is the contractor who built the place i own, and had done one other job for me, so i trusted him. the job was done and done well. HOWEVER, materials cost $175. $300 for labour. and i still have to paint the doors myself. at one point i went outside with my dog and one of the doors was sitting on a work horse while the 2 guys sent to do the job were sitting in the van. i believe i must have been charged for that time. in reality, the job could have been done in an hour or 90 minutes by one guy who spent the entire hour doing the job and didn't keep going in and out for whatever the reasons were (to sit in the van?). there is NO WAY that anyone can convince me that this job required both 2 guys AND/OR 2.5 hours of labour. i shared my concern with bob but he did not change the price. i feel robbed and cheated. and i will probably be removing the sweeps placed on the bottom of the doors because esthetically they are not pretty (3 of them came in to do that) and the doors are in my front room. i am so disappointed. i wish i could hire him again, but i can't. i will never hire anyone to do a job ever again without a written quote. the b rating for everything but price is related to a couple of things. lack of promptness (he arrived for a scheduled appointment a couple of hours late, by which time i had left my house for another appointment - he didn't reach out to say he would be late). the pricing issue extends into professionalism, though he is a nice guy. in terms of quality, the previous job i had done involved removing draft around 2 doors - one of them was done perfectly, the other one is no better than it was before. some of this could have been overlooked had i been left happy with this most recent job. sadly i was not.

Recent Review: When we called them initially in the summer, they told us frankly that they had too much work at that time, and that they couldn't take this on until the fall. We called them back in the fall, and they were less busy. They came out to do the walk-through, gave an estimate, scheduled the work and then performed it. They were very good about showing up when expected, and they also made sure to call us ahead of time to confirm. They had good ideas about how to fix the problems with the crawl space and the work looked good. We were happy with the experience and particularly appreciated that they called us back to let us know during the summer that they were busy for the job.

Recent Review: Excellent. Anthony was great with communication and punctuality and did great work. The front door work went quick and smooth. He measured the space for the custom crawl space door and dropped it off for me to paint as agreed. The price for a PVC option for the crawl space door seemed a little high, but it made sense. I look at it as 'get what you pay for' and we got a door we are very pleased with, that should last a very long time. I'd be confident hiring him for much more complicated work as well. Thumbs up! The company is Hernon Construction, Canton, MA

Recent Review: Papilia Plumbing and Heating arrived on time. Evaluated our central air conditioner. Reported that it was working well and only needed the filter changed. Informed us what it would cost to wrap our pipes. We approved the work and an appointment was made for his return. He returned as scheduled and finished the pipe insulation. He also recommended that we replace the exhaust on our clothes dryer. he quoted us a price and we plan to have Papalia do this work as well.

Phil Markham came to look at our job. He said he could do the job and asked for my email address to send an estimate. He sent the estimate, and we emailed him to accept it. That was several months ago, and in spite of repeated emails and phone calls, he never made any appointment to do the work, never called us back to say he couldn't, never contacted us in any way.

Paul was great. He was on time, had experience in doing attic doors before. Had all the proper tools needed, and was done before I knew it. The door works great, looks great. He also took on that simply disgusting job of removing the insulation in our crawl space that was just nasty. He also gave me a quote on replacing some windows in the basement, and he's looking for a solution to shore up a sinking floor area near our fireplace. I intend to hire Paul again.
