Reviews in Atlanta for Repairing Porches

AStonecrest Custom Homes
About 10 years ago we had a substantial front porch added to our home. At the time we were very pleased with the outcome. The floor boards are a composite material, (similar to Trex). For a while now we noticed that one of the floor boards closest to the faceplate had started bowing and warping. After the warping became significant enough to concern us we decided to engage a contractor to repair it. I reached out on Angie’s list and received several responses. Perfect. During the contractor selection process we quickly determined that the root cause of the bowing and warping of the floorboard was a symptom of a larger issue with the underlying porch frame. We selected StoneCrest Custom Homes for the following reasons, 1. Phil - He was our point of contact. A), He responded promptly with the quote. B), He, (always), answered his phone. C) He was flexible in scheduling the job. D), He visited the site several times a day, (We have Ring). He is a down to earth guy who says what he does and does what he says. A rarity. 2. StoneCrest Custom Homes Crew – I’m sure that in comparison our repair project wasn’t big, but his crew worked diligently and quickly to make the needed repairs. They were friendly and gave me confidence they knew what they were doing. 3. Flexible – As is the case with many home improvement/repair projects the scope of our project changed. We found that in order to get our porch back to a good place we needed to not make the same mistakes the original contractor made. StoneCrest Custom Homes was flexible and reasonable in accommodating the changes in scope. 4. Cost – We added scope to the project and the price was still reasonable. Would I use them again? Most assuredly. When we first reached out to engage a contractor we thought it would be a simple quick repair. Then we learned just how close the porch was to total collapse. Now we have confidence that our porch is structurally sound and we are looking forward to many years of continued enjoyment.

Brian did a great job on my porch repairs and didn't mind me making revisions to the design of the railing in the middle of the project.  We've received numerous compliments both on how good it looks and the quality of the work.

The estimate we received was in line with other estimates but he stood out because of how he presented himself and his business.  The quality of his craftmanship is outstanding. The porch celing never looked so good as it does now.  Randy cleaned up after himself as he went along and when he was finished you would never had known there was work done.  He went so far as to remove all old debri and boxes from the residence.  He performed the tasks with no hidden costs or delays.  We will use him again in a heartbeat.

ACarpenter & Co Handyman Service
We hired Carpenter & Co to repair wood columns on our front porch. There was significant wood rot to 2 of the 6 columns, which had to be completely replaced. Steve suggested PVC for those columns, as it resists future rot. Once the work began, they discovered that one of the columns did not have the proper structural support. The additional charge was minimal and well worth stabilizing the porch. They also matched the paint (a competitor had told us we needed to supply our own). The job took 2 days and each day the crew arrived on time. I am quite persnickety about my plants in the front yard and they were very careful not to damage the landscaping. The porch was neatly cleaned at the end of each day's work. We are definitely pleased with the work and are considering this company for another project.

After recently purchasing our home in Roswell, we noticed a leak in the bathroom. We called mold specialists who cut out the dry wall and base boards and treated the area with fans. My wife and I agreed it was a good idea to get estimates to repair dry wall and boards in the bathroom, in addition to other miscellaneous issues that were addressed in our home inspection. These issues included: 1) a crack under the bathroom window; 2) wood rot on both sides of the porch where the gutters met the roof; 3) sealing holes and gaps with mortar where the porch floor met the home and was letting in water; 4) issues with the gutter not stopping water from deluging upon the porch floor; 5) wood rot on siding and boards of the chimney; and 4) all windows were painted shut. We also wanted a new light fixture installed. We found Adam of Affordable Carpentry by Design on Angie's List, as well as other contractors to solicit estimates. The day after explaining the issues we wanted resolved, Adam was at our home to perform a comprehensive review of the issues. He took the time to explain what needed to be done to fix the issues and, importantly, what didn?t need to be done. He also made recommendations on issues that needed to be resolved to maintain the roof?s health in the long term. In addition to the issues we initially wanted done, it was apparent that our gutter guards needed to be removed as they were not originally installed correctly. Adam was patient and responsive to our numerous questions. He explained his estimate thoroughly. We signed the contract with Adam on a Monday, and he and his crew were at our home that Wednesday. Adam and his crew were an absolute pleasure in every regard. They would always answer our questions as to the work they were performing, and their progress; they were never dismissive, only polite and personable. As noted above, there were some issues with the porch and rain water going over the gutters and onto the porch. After the work was complete, during the first rain (over two weeks later) we noticed that the water was leaking on the brick façade behind the replaced wood rotted area.  I called Adam that afternoon, sent him pictures of the leak and, that following morning, he had his roofer at our home to address the issue, which turned out to be a deficiency in the flashing requiring removal and installation of new shingles. Adam took no additional payment for the repairs.   Payment was not accepted unless we were fully satisfied with the result, and he encouraged us to observe the work, which we did. We could not have been happier with the result. The dry wall in the bathroom and under the window is seamless, and the paint job was a perfect match. The wood rot has been eradicated and replaced. There is no leakage in the porch area during the heaviest of deluges. Adam is a consummate professional and we highly recommend him. We felt comfortable every step of the way.  While his crew was performing work, we expressed our desire to renovate our master and guest bathrooms, as well as our kitchen cabinetry in the future. His expertise in this realm of contracting is apparent. He understood our vision and his eye for design and wealth of ideas is fantastic.  We will definitely be calling on Adam to perform other repairs in the future, as well as our bathrooms and kitchen.  We are ecstatic to have found a contractor who is patient, responsive, honest, deliberate and prideful in his work, and a true pleasure.

ADogGoneHandy
I am in the process of selling my house.  The buyers wanted a few things done to the home as part of the deal.  I called DogGoneHandy to  get a quote.  It couldn't have been easier.  They had me take photos of the work I wanted done.  I sent that over in an email, and they got back to me within a couple of days with an estimate. The price sounded reasonable, so I hired them to do the work.  The tech that came to do the work was Taylor.  He was very punctual, polite, and professional.  He had me walk him through in more detail all that I needed to have done.  There were actually a few other things that I needed to have done, but he was able to show me that no fix was needed.  He also gave me different options on some of the jobs to save money if I wanted to, which I really appreciated.  After everything was said and done, they came in under budget and everything looked fantastic.  I couldn't have been more pleased with the service.  This is a very honest company and I would absolutely recommend them without hesitation.

Shawn arrived on time and detailed his approach to the work, He was extremely knowledgable about all aspects of home repair. The work was completed over two days and Shawn made sure that the paperwork reflected all of the items that he accomplished each day. I supplied the motion lights and ceiling fan. Shawn made a trip to the hardware store to get all of the additonal materials needed for the porch, fence and roof. I was very pleased with the quality of the work.

APunch Renovation and Construction LLC
It went well.  Raul Oliveros arrived by 7:30am.  Started working by 8:30am, apparently after going to Home Depot to get supplies.  The repairs were complete in about five (5) hours.  Although he did a good job, there were a couple of things I did not like.  The first thing is the cigarette smoke.  This handyman smokes.  I hate the smell of cigarette.  This is one reason I would have second thoughts about calling him again.  I also did not like the different pricing based on paying by check or by cash.  By different, I mean that he charged tax, if you write a check.  To me, the price is the price, whether paying by check or by cash. One more thing comes to mind that I missed on that day.  I did not get the Home Depot receipt because he had other items on the receipt.  For purposes like this, I think that the receipt should have only the items for this particular job.  That way the customer does not inadvertently pay for items that will be used elsewhere. In reference to the work itself, there have been a couple of hard rains in the past month.  My fence has endured through it all.  I guess that means the Punch Renovation did okay. They promised that there is a lifetime guarantee on their work.  I hope I do not need to find out whether or not that is true.

ABassett Construction Services LLC
I am extremely happy with all the work done by Bassett Construction Services. I had a new screened porch and deck built by Bassett. I worked with Diego Fracasso throughout the entire process. From beginning, he was very responsive to my requests for information. Diego provided pictures of decks and porches Bassett had built for other clients. He helped me figure out what would work best for my town home and fit my budget. I never felt like I was being oversold. Diego provided a detailed breakdown of work to be completed and costs. Once work began on my project everything ran smoothly. The primary craftsman working on the deck/porch was Paco, a very pleasant man and extremely detail oriented. The job site was left tidy after each day's work. I cannot say enough how happy I am with my new deck and screened porch! Everyone who has been to my home since having the screened porch built is very impressed. Paco paid attention to small details and there are nice finishing touches all around. During the time my deck and porch were being built I also had Diego make arrangements for painters to repair rotted siding and paint my house. He also arranged for installation of a flagstone landing on top of the concrete landing at my front door. I am extremely happy with the repairs to my siding, the wonderful new paint job, and the awesome flagstone landing at my front door. Overall I highly recommend Bassett Constructions Services. Diego was wonderful to work. He always kept me up to date with progress reports and was good about communicating. I always felt he had my best interests in mind when making recommendations.

Recent Review: These guys are great. I met with Rod at my home to go over my plans. He suggested some changes from my plans which came out very nice. Marco and his team showed up the day we planned, and knocked out the project in 5 days. After production members from their team followed up and came out on site to verify all went well. Very nice crew and great craftsmanship. In my plans I wanted to install a ceiling mount for my TV but I was concerned about the weight since we were using cedar wood. Marco went out of his way and installed extra support inside my ceiling for my TV. I would definitely recommend these guys for your project.

Recent Review: Ron is a true professional.  From the moment he first came to our house until they collected their check, he was honest, creative, detailed and helpful while never being pushy.  We just had an awful experience with our deck builder and I knew Ron was going to be the opposite.  He was never pushy, never asked for money up front and would explain to me multiple options in terms I could understand.  He worked within our budget and allowed us to protect the investment we just completed by adding the screened porch to our existing deck.  The deck looks absolutely beautiful now and is protected as well.  Exactly what we wanted.  He came up with an idea to split the stain/paint on the bottom posts so they fade into the color of the house and look like they aren't there.  It's amazing!  Our deck now looks better than anyone's in the neighborhood.  I want to point out that his crew of Julio and Louis worked so hard and so carefully to make our project go smoothly and give us everything we wanted.  Our deck had a lot of stain and paint combinations to work with and they got everything right, despite how complicated it was.  They were always here early and worked late and kept us up to date on their progress.  They were pleasant and respectful of our property and didn't leave a mess.  I would highly recommend this company and this team in particular to anyone looking for a paint job.  They didn't ask for one cent up front and we were on vacation when they finished and he still didn't bother me for money; I had to contact him.  Ron kept me updated almost daily and would call, text or email me details.  I loved his attention to our project and his willingness to come out to keep an eye on the progress. I am going to be calling them back to do some interior painting for us as well.

Recent Review: We just had a screened-in porch added to the back of our home. Chase Clark came over and gave us a very reasonable estimate along with great ideas. The crews who worked were very professional and did a fantastic job. We also have a couple of large dogs so we wanted doors that they could manage to go in and out of — Chase put in two doors with hinges that allowed the door to swing back and forth. Awesome!!! My kids told my husband and I the new screened-in porch looks like it’s always been there :). We plan on using Chase again for other updates in our home. Thank you Chase & Crew!!!
