It has been probably a year since the services were performed. I wanted to allow enough time to pass so I wasn't leaving a bad review in the heat of the moment and then honestly forgot. I just got on now to check for other home improvement services and remembered that I never left a review. In the end, Mike completed the job and made things right, but it was not an easy or pleasant process. Price was fine and we didn't have an issue with responsiveness (we were flexible on time, etc... weather didn't cooperate on the exterior, but we weren't in a hurry to get it done, so we were fine waiting for the right weather). The biggest issue was that when concerns were brought to his attention, he was very defensive, instead of taking the approach of wanting to make things right for the customer. I was so surprised that an adult with so many positive reviews on Angie's list (that was why we hired him) was so full of excuses and not wanting to hear concerns. It was almost as if he took "there were some spots missed" as personal criticism instead of simply saying, "sure, let me know what you're seeing and we'll take care of it" Example: after the bathroom was completed, I pointed out that the trim was crooked and the response was that it was that way from the previous painter and they just followed the lines that were there. I can only say that I never noticed that from the previous painting, but even if that were true, wouldn't a quality painter do it over right when he noticed it was crooked, or at least say to the homeowner - hey we've noticed this... would you like us to paint over it as it is or correct it? Example #2 - when I pointed out spots in the office that were missed, he was somewhat incredulous that he could have missed something. Even the best painters we have had have missed spots and when pointed out, they'd fix it with a smile. Example #3 - When the garage doors were painted (it was a chilly and humid day - chance of rain - my husband did point out that it was likely to rain and did he want to wait for better weather, but Mike said it should be fine and proceeded) and the paint ran and made a mess. Even after he came back to correct it, he did not thoroughly clean and remove the splatter and running from the rain that fell on the black weather stripping and garage floor. I was honestly astounded that someone would walk away for the day leaving a job in such a state. If there was no time to thoroughly finish that day, at least bring it to the attention of the customer -- here's what I was not able to complete today, but I will return to clean this up. Instead, we were left with the impression that he did not see there was anything wrong with it (poor attention to detail/careless) or didn't care enough. We got to the point where we told him we would only pay a portion of the original quote and subtract what it would cost us to have another painter come and finish the job, but he asked that we not do that.... that he would come and complete. He did, and we paid him in full, but it was such an unpleasant experience that I had my husband call him to schedule that final visit for when he could be home and I made sure I was not home as I honestly had enough and did not want to see him again. Absolutely would never hire again or recommend.
