Recent Review: He took time with me before the job to find out what I wanted done and he gave me excellent advice. They did a great job.  Really worked hard getting boulders removed, drains in place before filling in. They were careful with equipment not to tear up my yard. They always called ahead and were always on time.   Great group to have in my yard.  They worked hard, efficiently and quickly completed the job. Will use them for landscaping in the future.

WALNUT COVE LANDSCAPING & NRSY
Recent Review: We contacted Walnut Cove landscaping to come out to our home to give us an estimate on clearing the weeds and overgrowth around our 2 existing Koi and Goldfish ponds (the 2 ponds were joined by a small stream.) Then we wanted him to combine the 2 ponds into one big pond and landscape around it. He brought with him his portfolio of pictures showing beautifully landscaped fish ponds. We spoke to him about the safety of our fish. He did say he would do everything to insure their safety. We were impressed with his pictures so we agreed to hire him to do the job. He gave us a a written, signed, contract of $8,200.00 which we agreed to. He and his workers cleared the overgrowth around our ponds then they removed our 34 Koi and Goldfish including our 2 foot Koi that we've had for 9 years. We got him when he was a couple inches long. He put them into a holding tank with circulating water. They were there for the days while the work was being done. The pond its self was very nice. We did expect rock put around the pond, but he put down pine needles instead. I found out later that that is not a good idea since the needles get into the pond and clog the pump and they are not good for the fish to eat. He made his own "bio filter" out of a bucket which he placed near the waterfall. Water was circulating in that small area--not to the far end of the pond. He did not install a waterfall filter or a skimmer, both of which are essential for a healthy koi pond. We assumed he knew that having been in business for so long? He drained the water from the fish holding tank into the new pond, added some clean water with a water hose, the pond was only about 1/4 full, then put our fish into the new pond. He never tested the water, never added water conditioner, never sprayed down the liner or the rocks surrounding the pond. Later that day one fish was dead. We were sad but knew we might lose a couple do to stress. By the next morning all our beautiful fish where dead! I was heart broken and shed many tears. We had had them for years! My husband called Mr. Cathey immediately. He was sorry and said he'd be there the next morning. He then told us his expertise was pond building and he didn't know anything about fish. He never told us that before. I feel if someone builds fish ponds they should be knowledgable about the fish and build it with their safety in mind. What good is a fish pond if it won't sustain fish! He did apologize and agreed to give us a few plants, and said he'd get us a couple fish from someone's pond and invited us to a party--that was it! Now we have to shell out a lot more money to correct his mistakes and make out pond safe for new fish! I will never use him again and will be sure to tell anyone I know who is thinking about installing a fish pond about our experience with Walnut Cove and Mr. Cathey!

GREEN OUTDOORS
Recent Review: Eric and Howard did a fantastic job; they were caring, respectful and responsive.  We give Green Outdoors an A++ rating. We had numerous companies attempt to fix a chronic leak in our water feature and had already paid a lot of money but still had a leaky pond; we were unable to use it at all for fear it would burn out the pump when water got too low. Eric, the owner of Green Outdoors, was very experienced and knowledgeable and said he would expand the waterfall and refurbish everything which could possibly be causing the leak and he was good on his word.  One section continued to leak after numerous changes had been made, and he or Howard came about 6 times to our home, and called many more times to check on status, until the problem was 100% taken care of.  We now have a gorgeous water feature, larger and faster flowing which results in a wonderful sound that we can hear throughout the house. We give the highest rating possible when it comes to customer service, follow through, knowledge and integrity.  Eric kept his word even though the situation was very challenging and other vendors had taken our money then given up on it.  Also, Green Outdoors provided services for a more fair and reasonable amount than any other vendor who gave an estimate. These guys are the BEST! and we are grateful they were able and willing to fix something we really cared about.

Fairview Landscaping Inc
Recent Review: I discovered that one of my ponds, fed by a stream and flowing via a culvert drain into a lower pond, had drained down to just a stream. It clearly had found an escape tunnel near the bottom of the pond and was draining into an underground stream that it had created. I called Wayne at Fairview Landscaping (I had previously contracted with him for other work) and he came out the next day to look at it. He clearly had solid knowledge about stream-fed pond construction -- something many landscape people do not have--and discussed what was happening and what would need to be done to correct the problem. Since he could not tell, until he dug up the area, how deep the underground stream was, what twists and turns it might be taking or what kind of soil he would find below the surface, he could not give me a firm bid. We agreed that he would bring in the heavy equipment, and dig up the area and then he could give me a price on either fixing it or, if too expensive, to just retuning it to the condition he found it. Wayne and a helper arrived within a few days with a backhoe, dug up the area, assessed the extent of the problem and recommended a solution that I could afford. Wayne was very conscientious about finding an economical solution. He repaired the leak, and left the pond area in good shape. I was surprised and pleased at how little damage was done with getting the backhoe into and out of the pond area. I was very pleased with the quality of the work, and the knowledge and professionalism of Wayne. He is a trustworthy and competent person.

PRECISION EARTHWORKS
Recent Review: The proposal was submitted on time and was well prepared. This company was also honest enough to tell me that they could not meet the completion date that we required. Because of this we went with another company. I do however, greatly appreciate their upfront honest concerning the date and would most certainly ask them to bid on future jobs.

Reviews in Asheville to Install Pond

DCarolina Landscaping & Tree Removal
We hired Gary Rice with Carolina Landscaping to replace a broken waterfall pump and to add a skimmer for the pump. He determined that the skimmer could not be installed outside of the pond due to the rocks on the outside of the liner being cemented together. The skimmer was then installed in the pond. This could have been a great solution if he hadn't then cut a large hole in the back of the skimmer rendering it completely useless. Now, instead of the pump pulling the water through the skimmer filter first, all the water enters the skimmer through the hole he cut in the back bypassing the filter altogether and going straight into the pump. I have called several times and Gary tells me someone will be out here to fix this issue but they never show up. I have been given the excuse that we have had too much rain and the pond is too full to work on. I have told him to call me when he's coming out and I will drain the pond...no phone call and still no one has shown up. At this point it's been months and still no resolution. This job was paid in full on the day of installation.
