Driveway Gate Installation reviews in Saint Paul

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • Even though they were extremely busy, coming up to the end of above-freezing weather, Dakota was pretty responsive throughout the process: getting an estimate, getting work scheduled, and getting the work done. The gate looks great and the support posts are very solidly mounted in concrete. I did have to follow through with the office people to get a final bill, but the office person responded to my email in under a day.

  • Perfect! This company was very nice to work with, they were professional and did a really nice job on our fence, they gave us a discount for multiple fences being installed at the same time. Really liked Dan and his crew.

  • Top Notch is a small fencing company with (I think) just one crew. They take pride in their work and did a terrific job. Their sales rep, Joe, was very helpful (and patient) as I worked out some final details on a custom gate I wanted them to build. He said the fence should be up by Halloween and indeed they started the project on the 29th and finished it on the 30th.
I was a little nervous when they took a half down deposit and I didn't get a receipt or see a final contract. However, I looked at the other Angie's List reviews and figured it would all be okay -- and it was. Joe told me what the extras would cost (custom gate, special latch, window, etc.) and even though it wasn't in writing, there were no surprises. I didn't ding them on this on the report because all the verbal communication had been very prompt and again -- there were no surprises.
I wanted a nice fence because it is so visible, and it looks fantastic.  The potentially cranky adjacent neighbor loves it and I've had a lot of positive comments on the craftsmanship. I only wish I had had it built years ago..

  • Not well. Wish we had gone with another fence company. My husband took off work to meet the crew and set up markers. They did not show day one. Day to we were told they had all gone fishing. Day three my husband finally left and they showed up and did not measure with string. Day four they had to pull the cement posts and re measure, with string, which they should have done from the start. The end result is a very nice fence. The hassle, missed work, mistake that caused issues with our neighbors (understandably) was really not worth it. I would not recommend this company, nice owner, really frustrating experience.

  • I had 3 quotes. Midwest was in the mid range in terms of cost. However, I had seen many of their fences around and clearly in good shape after a long time. So we decided to go with Midwest based on the quality and the fences around the area.
Waited about 3 weeks before the project started. They let us know when they were installing the posts. Everything went well. We were not informed about when they were coming back for the completion of the project. Luckily, I was home from work on the day they came, otherwise, would not have known.
Other than that, all went well with the install and we are extremely pleased with the completed fence.

  • Sales rep Derek listened to my specific needs, offered suggestions, and it was perfect; punctual - tore down/removed/cleaned up & set posts quickly & efficiently --- 4 days later called to inform me they would be back next day to put up wood fence & chain link gates, etc.; they made an awesome wood "removable" section so I could get behind the wood fence easily & it looks great !!! definitely would recommend them -- all crews were great and I am EXTREMELY PLEASED. Doing the "happy dance".

  • Very pleased with the end result. The dogs are contained within a beautiful fence. They can't see the houses on either side of us because of the privacy fence, but they (and we) can see through the 6 foot California chain link fence into the woods beyond our back yard. The California chain link fence also allows a wonderful breeze into the yard and affords us a beautiful view from our lower level windows.
The crews were great! Very professional and courteous. They worked and worked solidly in the hot sun. I brought an Igloo drinking water cooler full of ice water out to them and, in the afternoon, brought ice cream out. The guys were very appreciative.
My neighbors have mentioned they were also impressed with the speed of construction and the look of the final product. We all believe it enhances the house and increased the property value.
    Thanks much Landmark Fence folks!!!

  • I found everyone to be professional and courteous, from the person answering the phone to the sales rep to the work crew. The sales rep was very knowledgeable and took the time to price out several different options for us. The first job we had done was a fence. The crew was on time, made sure they understood my expectations, and cleaned up after the job. The second job was a privacy panel on our deck, which was custom built onsite. Since I had to be at work and wasn't quite sure how I wanted some of the finishing pieces, the carpenter texted me pictures along the way so I could make the final decisions. Talk about going above and beyond! We are very happy with the end product(s).

  • After receiving a number of bids for our fence project, we decided to go with Northland based on their competitive price and the experience we had with Patrick when he came to give a bid. He set a start date of June 5 for removal of our existing chain link fence and to set the posts. The crew arrived and completed the work and indicated they would be back in 5 days to complete the job. Although it took an extra day, the team was obviously working hard and did a great job. We couldn't be happier with our fence and the experience with Northland.

  • I've had an awful customer experience with Dan's Fence and would not recommend them. I've experienced terrible communication and customer service throughout this entire experience. The fence itself looks ok, aside from the fact that it is still not completed nearly a month after it was started. Installing a chain link fence should be fairly straight forward.
I had Top Line fence out for an estimate as well, and wish I would have gone with them. The only reason I didn't is that it sounded like Dan's Fence could complete the job earlier than Top Line, which was very important to me the (joke is on me, I guess).
After having Jeff come out for an estimate (twice) in early April, I placed a deposit and reserved my spot on the schedule. I received a call on April 17th saying that they were coming out the next morning to start the work. I wasn't anticipating this - I had less than 24 hours of notice and they needed me to be there when they arrived. Thankfully, I am flexible at work and was able to work from home that day to meet them.
Originally, I was told by Jeff that 25% of the total was due up front and the rest was due at completion. Dan (the owner) showed up on the 18th saying he needed another 25%, so I obliged and wrote a check despite the miscommunication. The check was cashed that day. On 4/18, they dug the holes, poured the concrete and placed most of the poles (all except 3) and then left.
I was told that I had the option to order custom welded gates that would help eliminate gaps under the gates caused by grades on the lawn. I agreed to this and was told it would take up to a week for the gates to be completed. The concrete also needed to cure and with the wet weather, it would also take about a week.
After hearing nothing from them, I called and left a message on 4/25 asking for an update. They didn't return the call. I called back on 4/30 and left another message. This time Dan returned my call quickly and I expressed my frustration with his lack of communication. He made a lot of excuses about the weather and being busy. I understand he can't control the weather, but I felt there was no excuse for them not reaching out to give me an update.
At this point, I had written checks totaling more than $1,600 and my patience was wearing thin. I was running late for a conference call, so I had to let him go. I didn't hear anything back until I called again on Monday, May 5th. I was able to reach Dan and he said his guys would be coming out that week and the fence would be completed by Thursday at the latest (May 8th).
His guys showed up on Tuesday, May 6th and worked on the fence. They didn't bring enough chain link and the gates they had custom ordered came in the wrong size and the replacements weren't yet complete. The worker said they'd be back the next day to complete the job by finishing the last few feet of chain link and installing the two gates. He also promised he'd install a temporary
They didn't show up the next day.
Once again, I called Dan on Thursday morning and asked for an update. I received a return call from Jeff at 9:30pm Friday night saying the work would be completed on Monday. No one showed up on Monday and I didn't receive a phone call. I left a message and haven't yet heard back.
Save yourself a terrible experience and don't hire Dan's Fence.
