Tim was friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. He spent the entire day doing various handyman projects around the house and I was happy with all of the projects he completed. I would definitely use him again.

It's important to say right off the top that Mark Hoffman is a fair and honorable business owner. He does everything possible to satisfy his customers, and he works hard to make things right when necessary. Although there were a few hitches along the way during and after our project, we are satisfied with the outcome and highly recommend Hoffman Concrete to anyone looking into a new driveway. The start of our project was delayed significantly due to the extremely wet weather throughout the spring. For a while it was difficult contacting the company, especially at their listed number. Once I learned that Mark is a very responsive texter, that issue disappeared, and eventually our project made it to the top of the list. The project-- tearing out and replacing an asphalt driveway, two different walkways, and a very thick and sturdy front porch-- was carried out over the course of several days. The work coincided with Game 7 of the Stanley Cup, and I must tip my cap to Mark and the crew for being on the job site bright and early the morning after the Blues won the Cup! Everyone on the crew worked hard, and all the demands that the City of Kirkwood made for permitting were honored. Mark was communicative throughout, and we were pleased with the process. Upon completion of the pouring, we did notice a few minor issues with the concrete, as well as the job site. Mark acknowledged our concerns and worked with us to arrive at a satisfying resolution before closing down the site. About two weeks after the concrete set up, a crack appeared on one of the newly-poured slabs. Mark came back out to inspect the crack and proactively committed to re-pouring that slab. He and I, as well as another friend who is well-versed in flatwork, agree that the crack seems to be a fluke, as opposed to the result of problematic craftsmanship. No matter the cause, Mark's commitment to making it right was very reassuring and appreciated. All in all, we are pleased with our experience with Hoffman Concrete. Every project comes with its hiccups, and our interactions with Mark make it clear that he will always do right by his customers.

Ben did an amazing job explaining the issues and ways to go about fixing the problems. He laid out several cheaper options and the downfalls as well as the more costly routes. He was extremely transparent with everything he was doing. Over the years, Ive dealt with a lot of contractors and skilled tradesmen and Id put Ben at the top of the list in terms or fairness and competency. Hell be at the top of my list for any plumbing issues in the future.

Here's what happened: On a recent Tuesday, our 15-year-old water heaters pilot light goes out. We have a 2-10 Home Warranty, and I consider filing a claim but the pilot can be re-lit with relative ease. We have to re-light the pilot right before we need hot water, and it goes out on its own within 5-20 minutes. A faulty thermocouple can commonly cause a pilot light problem like that, and can usually be replaced for less than $20 from Home Depot or Lowes. So, I decide to try to replace that. It turns out my particular water heater has a special kind of thermocouple (with a TCO switch) that is not sold at HD/Lowes, so I call the manufacturer and they give me the exact part number I need to make the replacement. But by now its Thursday, and after two days of limited hot water we need a fix. So, I decide to submit a claim through 2-10 on Thursday mid-afternoon, and get assigned the plumbing contractor weve had to use once before* through 2-10, a company called American Plumbing Solutions (APS). By 2-10s rule, they have 24 hours to get back to me. By Friday at noon, I still havent heard back and am worried about having a weekend without hot water, so I call APS. The secretary informs me that they received my claim, but cant get anyone out to evaluate it until Monday. I tell her that unfortunately this is a problem thats been going on for too long already, and to please cancel the appointment. She then proceeds to recommend a plumber supply store that would have the exact part I need. So I go there, buy the part, and install it first thing on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, the new part does not solve my problem: the pilot can be re-lit and the burner will run, but the pilot still goes out after several minutes. So I take the part out, and replace it with the original. I call APS back, talk to the same secretary (who remembers my call the day prior) and ask to un-cancel the warranty claim. She says she had not cancelled it, because shes dealt with this type of situation before. At the time, I was glad to hear that. She says the plumber from APS will come Monday between 9-11am. Monday morning two APS plumbers arrive an hour early, at 8am. They look at the water heater for about 90 seconds. They dont even lay their hands or any tools on it, and they mumble to each other under their breath something I cant hear. One says, So you already tried to replace the thermocouple? I say yes, and tell them what I did and that it didnt work. They say OK, and tell me theyre leaving to go pick up a different part and will be right back. In total, they spend less than 5 minutes in my house. Minutes after they leave, I get a call from 2-10 informing me that my water heater is no longer covered by the warranty because of my attempted fix. In the ensuing 2-3 hour phone call, I come to understand that the APS guys had called 2-10 and said that I had tampered with the water heater and that they were not comfortable working on it because they didnt want to be liable for some damage I may have caused. They were not planning to return. 2-10 interpreted this to mean that (1) the contractor did not believe that the problem with the appliance was due to normal wear and tear, and that (2) my actions constituted misuse or abuse of the appliance. Therefore, they refused to cover it. 2-10 refused to send a third party out to evaluate for misuse or abuse and refused to give me a list of other local plumbers that I could pay out of pocket to fix the problem. APS set me up for this by recommending a place to buy the part I thought I needed. When they came Monday morning, they probably only looked at the water heater long enough to see it was 15 years old. Their quick calculation was old water heater + thermocouple is not the problem = need to replace the whole thing, and I bet you anything that they feel 2-10 would not adequately reimburse them for a job like that. So they just threw me under the bus and left. Thanks, APS, for leaving me high and dry on a $1700 water heater replacement, despite having paid for a warranty to cover that exact problem. Stay away from this company!!

    TowerGrove Plumbing&Construction Timothy Rabbitt
Tim did the work as promised. He was pleasant to work with, and always positive. I especially appreciated his dependability and his skill. When he said he would be at the job site, he always showed up, or communicated ahead of time if he was to be delayed. In addition to punctuality, he is a natural problem solver with a "can-do" attitude -- an experienced plumber. After re-plumbing the house, he has helped me with several smaller jobs. He is always the first plumber that I call.

Shawn communicates clearly and is very easy to work with. Shawn and his Team are craftsman's, they make sure the job is completed correctly. My end result was amazing. Happy to refer Shawn and would use him again in the future.

I purchased an electric tankless and pre-filter/softener directly from the manufacturer and started hunting for a plumber to install it. Now most all plumbers recommended against a tankless hot water heater, and Maplewood wasn't really any different in this regard. BUT, they listened to us, didn't treat us like idiots, and obliged us in our foolishness and they were really awesome. They did the job quickly and without a mess. Also, WE LOVE OUR NEW TANKLESS HOT WATER HEATER! I looked at our electric bill after 2 months (March-April) of using our Stiebel-Eltron E-tankless whole-house water heater unit, and the kW usage actually DECREASED from one year ago for those same two months. Thats right, there was no increase in our electric bill. As expected, our gas usage decreased. My wife was very worried because she often ended up talking to the plumber issuing the dire warnings and predictions about our silly misguided endeavor to get a tankless unit. Now, she couldnt be happier. Tandem back-to-back showers all day long, if we wanted. Never ending hot water! Thank you Maplewood Plumbing for helping us!

Called to arrange an appointment for replacement of my disposal, which was thermaling out and seized up. Instead of a service visit, I got a free 5-min lesson on how to repair it myself. Now that is superior customer service, these guys are for sure first on my list for next time I have an issue.
