  • I had purchased an Angie's list Big Deal for a concrete job.

They excavated some dirt for the new concrete pour to add on to the existing patio, and re-made an existing old sidewalk on side of house.

The concrete work looks great, they did a good job with that,

I had a few issues, however...

They credited the Angie's List Big Deal to my order, but I lost the promotional value since I did more than what the Big Deal specified.  I thought they would take the value of the deal off what I owed, instead they took off what I paid for the deal, so I in effect did not get the discount offered in the big deal.  Over all I don't feel I overpaid, but I don't feel I got the bargain that was offered in the Big Deal.  So the future customers take note, if you purchase their Big Deals on Angie's List, do exactly what is offered, no more and nothing different or you wont get your deal value.

Also, they left me with work to do I was not expecting, I felt the job was somewhat unfinished.

They left a hole at the end of the patio where they had excavated that I felt should have been filled in by them, the dirt was there, but not moved.  I had to cart it from the back yard where they piled it back to the hole to fill in the hole, which had filled up with water when it rained a few days after the job.

There was also a short wall on the side of the patio, that was not put back in place correctly when they finished the job, I thought that was part of the job, not something I had to go back and spend a weekend finishing.

They were nice and had I stayed more on top of the work I think these issues would have been addressed, I just didn't expect to

  • Provider name locked. came out to give us an estimate. He was very personable and knowledgeable. After getting several estimates from other companies we decided to go with Atlas based on the estimate and good reports from Angie's List and the BBB. It's difficult to comment on the quality of the work as we really won't know right away. I will say that I was happy to see the large cracks in the wall of the affected room close significantly when it was lifted to optimal elevation. The men who showed up to do the piering work were prompt, quiet (as quiet as one can be when operating heavy equipment) and worked very hard the entire time they were on the property. They put tarps on the ground prior to excavating. This was much appreciated as it saved us from having to deal with a muddy mess after the work was completed. They guy in charge of the work crew listened to us when we asked questions or voiced concerns. Provider name locked. , the office manager, was very professional whenever we called with questions prior to during and after the whole process.

I gave this company a B due to issues with communication between the office and the work crew. The work crew did not seem to be aware of all work specified in the contract. The contract  specifically stated that Atlas would investigate and replace as necessary the vertical section of the cast iron downspout drain pipe within the excavation for Pier #3. When I went out to ask about this, the work crew had no knowledge of this and would not have investigated this drain pipe had I not asked. We were told we would not need to be home during the two days the work was being performed. My partner and I decided of our own accord that at least one of us would be home during this process. A member of the work crew did need access to the house in order to determine if the affected room was level while being elevated. If we had not been home I'm not sure how this would have been done. Lastly, the contract specified that exposed steel rebars of the concrete piles would be sealed with zinc rich paint to Provider name locked. oxidation.. The crew had no knowledge of this. When I showed them the contract and pointed this out they did apply paint to the exposed rebar.

This is an update. I've now dropped my overall grade of this company to a C. Shortly after the concrete was poured in November cracks formed in two areas. In March we contacted Atlas about the cracks. The owner came out looked at the area and said that they would repour the sidewalk. We said it was okay if they just fit us in when they could. Weeks went by and we didn't hear anything from them. We called and they told us they were really busy but they had not forgotten about us and that they'd be by the next week. We didn't see them the next week or the next or the next. We made another phone call to them and got the same story with similar outcome. Just a word of advice for Atlas. Promptness when doing service recovery goes a long way. It's true we did say you could fit us in when you could but we didn't realize that the wait might be three months or longer. Finally we told Atlas we were tired of waiting and insisted they finish the job right away. They then called to inform us that they'd be out the next day or the day after. The concrete was repoured two days later and so far no new cracks have formed. Again lack of communication was an issue. I think if we had received a phone call or two at some point apologizing for the delay in getting to the concrete repour we might have formed a more favorable opinion of Atlas.

  • Customer service from this company is top notch.  Other places could/should take lessons from Provider name locked. .
Trench drain was installed to divert pooling Provider name locked. next to the house.  Work was completed in one day and drain functions as it should--no more swimming pools next to my house.  Highly recommended!
