  • Regarding price, it is my mistake for not getting other bids first, but I did get 4 more out of curiosity.  1 of them was more outrageous. 3 of them were $2,000+ less and they were going to complete MORE WORK i.e. replace the fascia and window/door trimming and PAINT the siding.
Third Arm was subcontracted by Home Depot, so it is hard to tell who really screwed this one up.  I did not communicate directly with Third Arm other than the workers in my yard.  As such, I will try to spare the full-on rant.
I was originally scheduled for 10/5/15 for the project to start.  No call/no show.
I called Home Depot.  The project was rescheduled to 10/13.  The crew showed up and tore down my old siding.  I arrived home halfway through and found no lead abatement procedures were being followed, which I was being charged for.  I also found there was some rotten and broken boards that fortunately for me had not been re-covered with weatherproofing yet, otherwise I would have never known.  The guys on site had no idea if anyone knew about it or would be contacting me to see if I wanted it fixed, indicating they surely had no intention of alerting anyone to it.  They left a coke can in my yard and an empty cigarette pack NEXT TO my garbage can.  Yes, they were smoking on site.  Doesn't bother me entirely, but it might someone else and it still seems unprofessional to be hanging off a ladder with a cig hanging out of your mouth. The guys on site said they'd probably be the ones back for the rest of the week.
No call/no show 10/14.  Home Depot said they'd call Third Arm.  Home Depot did not call me back with a resolution.
No call/no show 10/15.  I called Home Depot who said they'd call Third Arm.  They did and called me back, assuring me the project would start 8:30am on 10/16 and run to the finish.
I arrived home 10/16 at 11:30am to find 3 ladders, a few chords, and a saw table placed in my yard  but NO WORK DONE. AT ALL.  Enraged and fed up with the runaround, I called Home Depot and told them to fire Third Arm.  They tried to tell me the guys went to pick up lumber to fix the rotten wood.  Home Depot is 10 minutes away from my house and if they were on time at 8:30am, there is NO reason it should have taken them 3 hours.  Two guys from Third Arm arrived at 12:40pm.  Well, I'm not sure about the first guy because when I asked if they were with Third Arm since the truck was unmarked, he just stared at me blankly and pointed to the second guy.  I informed them they were fired and they gathered their ladders, chords, saw table, and left without any fanfare. PS, they did not have any lumber.
I truly felt they (collectively: Home Depot and Third Arm) thought I would be stupid enough to be satisfied that work had been done because they put stuff in my yard to  make it look like they had been there.
Because I don't know which company really messed this up and my belief stated above, I am also in the process of cancelling my contract with Home Depot.

  • It went very well.  They arrived right on time, cleaned up after themselves.  Reviewed the work with us when they were finished and asked if we had any questions.

  • It went really well.  They were able to come by and give me a bid without me having to be there to explain the work which was nice since I was really busy at the time and couldn't get out of work.  Their bid was the most competitive of the 5 bids i received and included replacement, not repair that some other vendors were suggesting (for more than Provider name locked. quoted me).  The day the work was done, some additional work/materials were required than Provider name locked. initially estimated but he stuck to the price in the quote and didn't charge us anything additional.
The only challenge I had was getting in contact with Provider name locked. for scheduling.  I had a hard time contacting him directly and there were a lot of voice mails back and forth in the process but I think that is because they are so busy at this time of the year and it was only a minor inconvenience and paid off in the end by getting the work done well before he said they would be able to get to me.
