    Universal Home Improvement
I called many companies to assess our leaky basement and only found three who would come out to look at it. Universal responded promptly, gave us a quote and scheduled the work within a reasonable period of time. The work went smoothly and was very thorough. Workers were pleasant and efficient. Unfortunately, we still have a very minor leak that is unresolved. Universal responded quickly to this news and made another repair. The minor leak is still there and may require a bigger fix. We're assessing next steps now.

Great! I would like to say what a great job McCartney did painting the exterior of our house. I had initially worked with Kieron McCartney through a referral for a water leak. Kieron provided an estimate for a waterproofing and painting a section of our house to deal with the water issues. My first impression was Kieron has many years of experience in waterproofing and painting so we worked with him for that issue. We were so happy with working with Kieron and his Guillermo (his foreman) that we worked with McCartney painting to paint the remainder of our house exterior. We were very happy with working with both Kieron and Guillermo (and the rest of the crew) that we want to say how pleased we were with the way the job turned out. I would recommend (and would work with again) McCartney painting for any painting or waterproofing issues. They are easy to work, do great work, and stand by their work.

Our two-story stucco house in south Bernal Hights was last painted in 2000, and was looking rather drab. But, great pixels were not our main concern. Most importantly, we were looking to waterproof, as much as possible, our windows and stucco. We had five south-facing leaking windows that were of special concern. Out of three estimates, we chose McCartney Painting mainly because owner Kieron McCartney was the most keen and knowledgeable about techniques to secure the house against the elements. Elastomeric painting (8-mm thick coating, I recall),  three-point sealing, and Sika Flex caulking between exterior wall and concrete intersections were some of his applied techniques appropriate to the needs of stucco. Also, McCartney offered a senior discount (proof positive we look our age) without our asking, making his quote the lowest bid. Another company did not offer elastomeric paints at all. The experience with McCartney Painting was very positive. Kieron surveyed our home within a week of bid request, submitted an estimate and contract the following week, and placed us into his busy schedule. Power washing, patching the many stucco cracks (some deep), caulking and sealing the windows and four door frames, the house painting itself, and the ironwork staining and painting all went smoothly and efficiently. His crew was very punctual, courteous, and helpful with trim paint recommendations. They cleaned up after work each day. Kieron, a calm person with which to work and collaborate, was very responsive to any concerns we brought up. The result looks great, and inspired some neighbors to also paint their houses. McCartney Painting is well worth your consideration.

Repainting 3 out of the 4 sides of my hundred year old San Francisco Victorian is the biggest home improvement project I've done. It needed scaffolding, waterproofing, and lead protection measures. This was basically a root canal on my house. I looked forward to it the same way I would a root canal on my teeth.
I'm glad I found McCartney. From speaking with Kieron, it was obvious that he is an experienced painter and waterproofer, and that I could trust his judgment and his expertise.
Kieron and his crew did a great job painting my place. They were always on time, cleaned up well, were responsive to my questions and feedback about the job, and were very easy to work with. They were conscientious and meticulous. They were also great with my neighbors. Bonus: they finished the job faster than expected.
I wouldn't hesitate to hire Kieron and his crew again. But thanks to the job they did, I don't think I'll have to for quite some time.

    Quality 1st Basement Systems
The entire staff of Quality First Basement are courteous, efficient and professional. I don't know if the solution they proposed will solve the water problems(stay tuned for my report next year). But so far I am more than impressed.

    THE RESTORATION COMPANY
The Restoration Company was an excellent experience, they came and gave me a free bid. We had six bids, they fell at the lower end but as it turned out they just had more included in the bid. As far as what they were going to do they did everything they said they were going to do we were tremendously pleased with the job and the building was amazing. They spent a lot of time on it, they didn't take a long time to do it but they were very careful about how they did it. They were tremendously responsible about how they did the project. I would use them in the future if I need any more repairs and I have referred them already to others!

Our house was experiencing some water issues during heavy rainstorms on two sides of the house and under the front entry stairs.  We talked to a lot of ?water experts? and general contractors alike, but never felt comfortable with their recommendations or style of working.  They were either proposing what we felt like was too comprehensive of a fix or the opposite option of just slapping elastomeric paint on the walls.  We contacted McCartney after reading positive reviews of them on Angie's List and after receiving multiple bids and visits by other service providers.  From the get-go, Nicholas was much more professional than the competition; he showed up on time, explained things in plain English, assuaged our concerns, and spent as much time as we
wanted to understand the issues.  While the other guys provided quotes to us that were more like "Rolls Royce" options (e.g.,
completely replacing slightly leaky doors and windows), Nicholas took a much more practical approach by helping us think of ways to preserve our original doors/windows by rehabbing them.  This was a great solution for us as we wanted to keep our original wood windows, which would have been really expensive.  As a result, McCartney?s quote came in at less than half of what the other guys were proposing to charge ? unbelievable.
Once work began, Ricardo and Yolanda dove right in and started doing their magic.  Over the course of two weeks, they scrubbed, patched, sanded, painted, the front and sides of our house, and even patched a leak under the roof above our entryway.  They worked tirelessly and never complained or caused any issues; they were actually really nice people and we felt totally comfortable with them being around day and night.  They diagnosed the exact areas that water could be getting in and showed us pictures of everything as they went along so that we could understand what they were doing.  They properly went about fixing problem areas and patched things up to try to prevent future failure including repairing stucco and cracks, sealing up a leaky window, building a new pan under our French doors to siphon water away, rehabbing an old inoperable window (looks like new now!), chasing a water leakage issue down to its source (roof flashing at a joint was not properly done), coating the house with elastomeric paint, and then finishing off with a fresh coat of paint to match our old color.  After they were done, not only were our water problems fixed (the real test will come this Winter) but our house actually looked better than before they began, which we weren?t expecting.  And Nicholas has assured us that if any issues come back, we can call them up and they will be back to make sure it is taken care of.  All in all, they finished on time, on budget, and with very happy customers.
We really enjoyed working with Nicholas and his team on this project and would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone
we know.  Their practical approach combined with their knowledge and ability really stood out to us.  More than that, they acted as our partner in solving our issues rather than trying to sell us work we didn?t really need.  A++++

Carty Construction-Storm and Surface Drain Specialists
Paul and one of his guys came out to inspect a drainage issue on a house we were considering buying. He was there at the same time as a structural engineer and general contractor. I was impressed by his level of knowledge and his ability to think through all the approaches to addressing the issue with the property. Ultimately, and based in large part on his assessment, we decided not to buy the house. Paul's knowledgable assessment let me know that there was a major drainage issue and no quick fix. I would gladly use his services again.

    BAY AREA MOISTURE CONTROL
We contacted Bay Area Moisture to discuss a water intrusion issue at our house. It didn't go well. After a brusque telephone call, they sent someone out. However, it was apparent they didn't want the job, so unfortunately it was a waste of time.
