This is a classic example of why Consumer Reports recommends that pet parents put money into an account designated for veterinary bills rather than purchasing pet health insurance. We maintained a policy on our dog for most of his life with the intention that it would be there for any possible major medical issues. At the age of 11 1/2 yr., he underwent a splenectomy for an enlarged spleen which turned out to have resulted from an aggressive sarcoma. The costs incurred amounted to over $7,000. We loved our sweet boy and it was worth every cent to us.
As it turned out, the reimbursement schedule for a splenectomy for a dog is $285! Honestly, I could not have a toenail removed for that amount of money. Ultimately, we were reimbursed approximately $1,600 or 22% of the total bill. I would have considered 50% reimbursement to have been fair. When I called to discuss the issue with a representative of Provider name locked. , I was told that we had to prove it was surgery. Hmmm...how does one remove a spleen if not surgically??
The premium payments over 11 years probably averaged $40/month, for a total of approximately $5,280 during his lifetime. When we submitted the $445 bill incurred for the subsequent euthanasia and cremation two months later, we received $65 in reimbursement (14% of the total billed this time) with the comment that this bill had already been considered with a previous submission. What - with the splenectomy/cancer diagnosis?!?
Over his lifetime, the annual premiums definitely outweighed any total yearly reimbursements but this last event was simply outrageous. I will never fall for this scam again and I encourage anyone considering pet healt insurance to run some serious numbers and check the reimbursement schedules very carefully. Buyer beware!!- KATHRYN W.
The project was completed on-time and under budget. I could not be happier with Provider name locked. .There team of guys are friendly respectful and will not disappoint. There quality and working knowledge is obvious. From start to finish they are by far a step above other contractors I have used. I recommend giving them a call before before deciding on any construction project in your home.- Rex R.
Avoid potential Provider name locked. "bait and switch". After initial research into pet insurance, Provider name locked. appeared to be a good choice. We decided to insure our Golden Retriever Mojo with Provider name locked. . Eleven months into our policy we received notice that premiums would more than double at first anniversary. I was stunned and thought this must be a typo or miscalculation. We had only filed minimal claims that didn't even come close to the amount we had spent on premiums. I Emailed Provider name locked. and asked for clarification. Provider name locked. responded that Provider name locked. segment for our dog justified this increase. Let me get this straight, one year old purebred golden retrievers are a health risk justifying more than doubling premiums?!
Recognizing Provider name locked. was no longer a reliable source for coverage we conducted more detailed research into pet insurance companies. Healthy Paws Pet Insurance and Foundation scored top Provider name locked. in all categories. We promptly shifted Mojo's coverage to Healthy Paws. 18 months later, I could not be more happy than being with Healthy Paws (separate review posted in San Provider name locked. location).
Mojo and I recommend avoiding Provider name locked. as unforeseen, unbelievable rate increases are a concern.
