  • I was in a bad relationship with my former landscaper who left our backyard a total nightmare. Multiple landscaping companies came out and ran the other way after seeing the mess our former landscaper created. We were a total mess! California Smartscape came in, and from the first meeting I just had a really good feeling about them. Jay and Jesse came in for the inital quote, and Leo was the project manager for the duration of our project. They were prompt, responsive, professional, and above all - KIND. Just really, REALLY good people. They got to work right away and completed everything in the time frame they gave us. Throughout the whole process, I was in the know of what area would be tackled next, what materials would be brought in, who would be working on what... each week the communication was clear on what would be done. They have this business down like a well oiled machine, and always answered any questions I had in a prompt manner. Leo had the best attitude coming into work. He is extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and easy going... even when there were some unexpected challenges (left by my former landscaper). He was like a friggin' detective, figuring out our old plumbing/electric lines, and combing through our old plan to make sure our new yard would be perfect. WE LOVE LEO!! We're about a year in, and everything has held up perfectly. The guys installed a drip system for our plants, and we use less water now, but our trees are twice as tall as our neighbors who started their landscaping way before we did. Seriously, they have everything figured out to the tee. We're so thankful they decided to take us on despite the challenges... now we have so many neighbors asking who did our yard - I still can't believe they were able to turn the mess around into a perfect backyard getaway.

  • I definitely recommend Brothers Landscaping. I wanted to install a sod lawn for my small backyard as well as reposition and increase my sprinklers for maximum coverage of the lawn and bordering plants. I was rather anxious as I’ve had bad luck with lawns in the past. Luis Vela patiently explained to me the best way to approach my project. He recommended a new timer (which he taught me how to use), new water valves and a better drainage cover. He took out my old lawn (what there was left of it), graded the dirt for best drainage, put on fertilizer and finished the sprinklers. When all this was accomplished, he put in fresh, excellent quality tall fescue sod. Luis came out several times to check on the sprinkler coverage and selected the watering timing that he recommended. He responded to my every concern and I am pleased to say that I love the results of my new, luscious lawn. He was expensive, but his services are worth the price.

  • Kent was very, very responsive to my initial call. He promptly addressed my near-term irrigation issue. Kent quickly created a recommendation for migrating my landscaping to drought-tolerant landscaping, which included replacement of a front and side lawn. The work was done quickly and completed very well. I was traveling extensively during the time of the work, and Kent and his crew completed the work with little direction needed by me. I will use C&H services again.

  • This is now the third or fourth time I have used ASDR's services for our aging (30-years) lawn irrigation system. Josh has been the technician I have requested since the first time he came out. He is very professional, clearly explained the issues I needed to address, and very efficiently corrected the problems and/or replaced the necessary parts of our system. (For example, he has installed a new timer, replaced underground leaking pipes, replaced a couple of actuators (valves), and replaced damaged heads.) He also impressed me that he was not trying to sell me unnecessary parts or work, especially given the fact that we still have children in college! I would highly recommend the company and would, obviously, use them again.

  • They did a great job. They had to do the work over two mornings due to the unusual complexity of the job. The employee was great, punctual and persistent in getting everything back in order. We are very pleased to have the sprinkler line up and going again.

  • We recently completed a major job with California Smartscape and are very pleased with the results and the process. Our job involved replacing a large driveway and two patio areas totaling about 1800 square feet and about 100 feet of walkway with pavers, synthetic turf in two backyard areas, replacement and addition of drainage systems on the 1/2 acre lot, removal of extensive overly mature landscaping and replacement with new plants, rock, and mulch, plus new irrigation throughout. We interviewed 5 firms for the job, and selected California Smartscape as the best overall balance of design and creative ideas, cost, and schedule. One main reason we choose them was the communication right from the start with our designer Andrew. Even at our initial meeting he was raising ideas and areas of concern that other companies did not address, and he listened very carefully to our likes and dislikes. His resulting design was a nice blend of his creativity and things we wanted, and as a result it was clear from the start that we would end up with something we liked. They weren't the cheapest bid, but their price was reasonable for work. I also liked that right at the beginning they highlighted several areas that would be TBD in the bid and the reasons why, indicating the potential issues they might run into once demolition began. Other firms tended to gloss over this, perhaps to not give the impression that there would be significant cost increases, but I've done enough construction myself to know what one can run into beneath the surface and what those can do to project cost. I appreciated California Smartscape setting proper expectations to avoid sticker shock later. The company was able to start the job fairly quickly, and we had a significant work crew at our house for the next couple months. The crew was always prompt and courteous, and they worked very hard throughout the day - it was clear that there was never any slacking off from these guys! Our project manager, Leo, was good at keeping everything flowing smoothly, and had clearly scheduled the work crews and materials deliveries so that there was no wasted time or off days. He was also responsive whenever we raised any issues (which were minor and rare) or had questions. We are delighted with the outcome, and we've had many wonderful comments from neighbors and passers by. We plan on staying in the house for years to come and hopefully won't be needing such extensive landscape work again for a long time, but we would certainly use California Smartscape again and recommend them highly.

  • I joined AL to write this review. This is it. It's the only review you need to read. I'm pretty sure I'm a pain in the butt to work with. I'm demanding. Opinionated. React badly to surprises. Of all the projects I've done to my house, I pretty much never work with that contractor again. I've long felt it's impossible to find a contractor that has the three aspects we all desire: High quality, responsive and meets deliverables, and reasonably priced. Two of the three, sure - but quality and responsiveness usually comes with a price premium. Rivers Landscape Construction is all three. About a year ago I contacted Gabriel after reading Yelp reviews and he was out the next week to meet with us. We had about 1200 sq foot back yard which was basically concrete and some struggling lawn, and wanted to tear it all out and build a massive outdoor living room. An outdoor man cave. A salute to sneaky-drinks on a lazy Sunday afternoon and making the most of this glorious climate. We'd already drawn up some architectural diagrams through a friend but Gabriel did his own in Sketchup. He came up with ingenious ideas we'd not thought of, how to place the patio posts to maximize the covered space, and where to put the fireplace. At the same time I got bids from 4 other shops. Or at least, I tried to. 1 of them didn't even return my calls and another came out and did measurements but then just ghosted my calls afterwards. The other two gave me bids which were 50% more than Rivers for one, and 100% more for the other (but strangely included wanting to re-stucco my whole house, switch out my windows and a bunch more stuff I told them explicitly I wasn't interested in.). So we made the choice and signed the contract with Rivers. This was a Milestone payment plan, which I liked, with rules on any changes would require a Change Order. They gave me a time frame of 6 weeks. They were done in 7, but lost two weeks due to rain. Every single day Gus our foreman was here. He even came up with ideas Gabriel hadn't thought of, like added buried conduit for lighting and some additional irrigation zones at no cost. Like every project, it was not without some problems. The difference here though they addressed them all in a timely fashion, always answered the phone, and in the end my project cost exactly what they said it would. End result? LOL it's kinda insane. I can't believe this is our backyard, it looks like something from a magazine. It's the little things that really stand out. While building the fireplace, Gus asks me hey man wouldn't it be cool if we recessed that mounted TV and put tongue and groove behind it to match the ceiling? And we could do a raised planters around the back wall to close off the turf, but stagger them at different heights. Who does that?? They even custom ordered black gutters to match the black painted iron work - again no extra cost. All I can say is, thank you so much to Gabriel and Gus and his team of consummate professionals. I don't plan on ever selling this house, but if I do, and move somewhere that needs a backyard makeover - Gabriel will be the first person I call. If you're tired of working with contractors that dick you around, or don't deliver on promises, come in over budget, or quality is less than perfect do yourself a favor and call these guys.

  • It was a very large and difficult project but they arrived daily and were very thorough through to the end. Landscapers that I didn't mind having on my property. Their ideas and input were very helpful.

  • I trust Victor greatly. We devised a plan that we knew would take some time and we could not be more pleased with the results. He is honest, hardworking and reliable and reasonable! Recommend his services highly!

  • They came out & checked my sprinkler equipment & whole system. The technition quickly found the problem with my Raintree equipment. He changed out the broken portion & reprogrammed it. Then he checked the sprinkler heads. There was one that was broken & gushing water. It was under a sago palm. A very difficult location to find & repair. But he found the problem & fixed it. that was done was more than worth the $80. I would hire them again if I
