  • I was a 35 year old mother of 3 small children. After my doctor found breast lumps I was sent to STRIC for a Mammogram. The mammogram was not conclusive and it was recommended that I follow up in 6 months, it also said I could seek advise from a surgeon for needle aspiration. Knowing I have a family history I decided to go to a surgeon for advise. My surgeon viewed the mammogram and did a physical exam and told me I needed to get a MRI. I called STRIC and made the appointment for the MRI, at the time of making the appointment I was told that I needed to give them my insurance information so they can do a preauthorization. I gave them the information they needed. When I arrived for the appointment I asked the front desk if the preauthorization was done and they said yes it was. I had the MRI done. Several months later I received a bill for $1700 saying the insurance was not paying it because they needed further information. I called STRIC and asked them about the preauthorization that was done trying to get the information to forward to my insurance company. I was told over the phone that it was done, so I called the insurance company and they had no record of STRIC contacting them by phone. I called STRIC back and asked to speak to a supervisor, the supervisor looked into it further and said the authorization person didn't call my insurance company they just looked on line at my benefits, which I later discovered doesn't even list information regarding authorizations. The supervisor I spoke with told me that they made a mistake, they should have called the insurance company. She sent my file through a write-off procedure. A few months later I called to check on it and the person I spoke with said it was being written off and was just waiting on one final signature. Several months later I got another bill and called STRIC about it. They said that payment was due or they would send me to collections, I told them that the person said it was going to be written off. They told me that person didn't work there anymore and that it would not be written off. This whole debackle has lasted now 2 years. I am now forced to make payments on the $1700 or face legal action. If I had known that the preauthorization wasn't done I would not have gotten the MRI done. This was their error and I have spent 2 years fighting them and now have to pay them. My doctor also tried to get information from them regarding my case and they blew him off also. He is no longer sending patients to them and I will never go there again. I tell everyone I know how badly I was treated there. With the exception of the supervisor who told me about the error everyone I spoke with was rude and nasty to me. There are a lot of other radiology places out there, I highly recommend going to someone else other than South Texas Radiology.
