  • I found Provider name locked. after I had already found a really good contractor I intended to use.  My husband wanted to get more estimates just to be sure we made the right decision.  So I went through an exhaustive Provider name locked. to find more estimates and found a lot of not so great contractors but also found Provider name locked. .  I started to question my decision to go with this other more prominent contractor.  I was having trouble deciding between the two when Provider name locked. suggested I go see some of their work.  I spent a morning looking at both contractors work.  I can't believe this wasn't the first thing I did!  After seeing each contractors work, the decision was easy.  I liked Provider name locked. 's style of work more.  It was more me.
     
    Once they started working I knew I made the right decision.  I like to be involved in the project and understand what is happening.  I also had ideas but couldn't really figure out how to make them work.  Provider name locked. would come back and say, "I was up all night trying to figure out how to arrange the laundry room and came up with this.  What do you think?"  It felt good to know they were as invested as I was to make it look good and be what I want.  I had just bought new washers and dryers and they would move them around and rehook them up so many times just so I could do laundry.  Provider name locked. and Provider name locked. are extra-ordinarily considerate people.  They are always trying to make the experience as pleasant as possible.

    Provider name locked. and Provider name locked. were very helpful with design advice as well.  I had originally wanted to go with a different type of flooring which I ended up changing to a beautfiul wool carpet that I love and gorgeous heated tile floors in the bathroom.  It was so nice that they understood my style and could steer me in the right direction.  It was a very collaborative effort and turned out great. 

    I think my favorite thing about my new basement is the beautiful new master bath my husband and I enjoy every day.  We moved our master bedroom downstairs and have an amazing bathroom with a shower which is the best shower I have had in my life!  It is so unique and beautiful.  We have a opaque sliver of a window in the shower made with a type of resin with imbedded leaves.  This feature is double sided as part of our bedroom and shower.  It is super cool although hard to explain.  It lets light in both ways.  We love it!  Also in the bathroom Provider name locked. built us a custom walnut vanity!  It is beautiful and has amazing functionality.  Provider name locked. and Provider name locked. each have different strengths and together they are unstoppable with what they can produce!

    I can't say enough good things about Provider name locked. and Provider name locked. .  I love what they have done to my basement!  It is completely one of a kind and more than I could have asked for.  They are currently remodeling my kitchen upstairs and can't wait to see the end result.  To sum up what I think of Provider name locked. I would say:  They are considerate, creative, good, hard working people who actually care about you and your job and they deliver a solid result that has special artistic flare, style and design.  I am happy I chose them for my house!

  • .The completion of our basement began with the HVAC sub; Boss Incorporated.  Overall, they did a
    good job. We also used  Provider name locked. electrician. The owner, Provider name locked. , whom I was told typically oversees the electrical work, did not do any of the work on our basement. He sent his son and another young man. The two of them worked together for a couple of days, but left some of the electrical work
    unfinished. We were literally told that they had to leave to go work on a bigger  job.
    For example, they did not wire for the surround sound, and they did not finish the bathroom fan. A hole needed to be
    cut through the wall to the outside of the house for the fan ventilation. Eventually our
    contractor, Provider name locked. , and another worker finished the fan themselves. When the day arrived for the
    electrician to return to complete the last of the electrical work, he complained
    when we reminded him that we still needed to have the wiring installed
    for the surround sound. He said that he was never told that that was
    part of the bid. He went ahead and  installed the wiring for the surround sound, but acted put out.
    Communication was an ongoing problem throughout the entire finish of our basement. The experience with the electrician  is an example of that lack of communication. Shouldn't the electrician  have been told by our contractor what was in the bid for them to complete? This was one of several awkward moments. Overall, we thought that T&T Electric acted unprofessionally.
    The plumber was also a subcontractor for Provider name locked. . He was the best part of the entire finish experience. He was excellent! If you are ever in need of a plumber, Provider name locked. is the man. He was very professional. He went out of his way several times to help us get the job done the way we wanted, and he even completed tasks that were not his to complete. Provider name locked. was efficient, and his work was impeccable. What a nice guy. The overall grade I would give to him is an A++!.
    The framers and trim people I
    believe were the same company; Columbia Millworks.  Again, subs for Provider name locked. . We had a significant problem with the installation of the closet doors which also came from Columbia Millworks.
    We wanted mirrored closet doors in each bedroom, which is what the original bid was for. The closet doors turned into quite a debacle. We received four
    sets of the wrong closet doors.  In one bedroom, trim was mistakenly
    added to the inside of the closet frame and so a standard closet door
    would no longer fit. Our contractor did not catch this mistake in time to easily correct it.  This increased the price of the closet doors because now they had to be custom fitted. We paid extra to buy the doors we wanted and Provider name locked. covered the installation fees. The opening in the second bedroom for the closet
    doors was also not finished correctly because those closet doors wouldn't fit either. They were taken out to our driveway and cut. Without reinforcing them, the closet doors were brought back in and installed. I specifically asked the installer (from Columbia Millworks), if that was the proper way to trim the doors and was told yes. When they started to leak sawdust as I opened and closed them, I knew they were not trimmed correctly. At that point, this company refused to come back and correct the problem. Between the two bedroom closets, the contractor had a difficult time resolving the problem. However, because of the mistakes that his subs had made, there wasn't a cheap approach. The installation of the closet doors was one of the items that was not completed until the first of November because we were left to resolve the problem on our own. The contractor didn't  inform us that he was no longer working on a solution to the problem.  After finally learning that he wasn't working on a solution anymore, we had to hire another contractor who virtually without any adjustments other than sanding one side of each closet door, installed the original mirrored doors we had asked for in the first place. They came from Home Depot and are the Pinecroft mirrored closet doors.  He installed them and I painted them.
    The bathroom shower was installed by a subcontractor as well; CMS Cultured Marble Specialists. Provider name locked. had never used this company before us.  I caught their technician right before he installed a shower panel that he had accidentally chipped off a corner piece from. He had applied the glue and was ready to install it. I stopped him and asked what he was planning to do with the chipped corner. He told me that it would require a patch once it is installed. It would look like an extra trim around the top of the shower when he was finished.  I told him that we didn't want the shower to have a patched corner and that he should have told us about the chip before making the decision to install it anyway.  And so he ordered another panel. A second different shower panel bowed after it was installed and glued down. It had to be ripped out and replaced as well. We were delivered three different shower doors before we received the correct one. We ordered an oil-rubbed bronze trimmed shower door and received two chrome doors, and another that was oil-rubbed bronze, but was the wrong size. Again, I handled this debacle as well. Our contractor was busy on other jobs and wasn't even aware of the problems occurring. The owner of this company was very apologetic and called us personally to make things right.
    The painters were scheduled to arrive on an assigned day and had to be rescheduled because they accepted another job.  We were waiting for them for a week and a half because of the additional job, a family reunion, and a broken down truck. They also stained our bannister. The first one came back dark and blotchy. Even the contractor admitted he didn't like the result. The second one was rough to the touch and had a small piece of wood missing out of an end. The third bannister was perfect. It was smooth and sanded and the stain looked great. Provider name locked. finished that one himself.
    Yes there were uncomfortable confrontations as we tried to work with the contractor and the subs in fixing the problems that arose. We would have been naive in thinking that our basement finish would be virtually problem-free. However, instead of focusing on the solutions to each problem,  the position that our contractor and Provider name locked. began to take is that we, or more specifically I, was impossible to please. My husbands response to this was that if I hadn't been home to catch some of these mistakes, the problems could have been much greater and more difficult to resolve. Provider name locked. told us that some of the subcontractors had also said I was hard to please. Yes, we are hard to please if that means we wanted the job done correctly. We did not ask any of the subcontractors to do any job outside of the bid.
    RATINGS:
    I rated my overall experience with Provider name locked. a C. The rest of the ratings will explain why.
    I rated price a B.
    Although the initial bid was reasonable, we felt like we were left in the dark in terms of specific items, even though we asked for those.  We felt like the bids on items like carpet, bathroom specifics, and the kitchenette including the cabinets, granite counter tops, Provider name locked. fixtures, sink and plumbing were underbid. This cost us much more in the end. Again, we were told that all bids were based on mid-range prices. After doing our homework, we learned their bids were on the lower end price-wise.
    I rated quality a B.
    Our basement turned out well in the end. However, we wondered what problems we would have encountered if I
    had not caught and intervened when problems arose. Also, Provider name locked. seemed more preoccupied with taking the cheapest routes rather than on quality. An example of this I have written under professionalism category (shower ceiling).
    I rated responsiveness a D.
    Enough time would lapse in between subs and jobs that when Provider name locked. touched base with us he had forgotten what still needed to be done to complete our basement.  I do not remember seeing him write down any information that pertained to job completion. I do not believe that the purpose of hiring a contractor is for the client to find it necessary to compile a list of jobs waiting to be completed to hand to the contractor.  On several occasions, Provider name locked. would make the trip to our home and not be prepared with equipment and supplies because he had forgotten what still needed to be accomplished. It was very frustrating and a waste of time.
    I rated punctuality a D for obvious examples in the review.
    I rated professionalism a D.
     I really do not understand a business telling a client that they are the problem; that they are too hard to please. Isn't pleasing their clients what they are in the business of?   Also, we were told that Provider name locked. probably had too much going on. The result was that we received sub-level service.
    I also believe that when a contractor is hired, it is his expertise and experience that you count on to guide and advise in your decision-making.  Our shower ceiling was quite low. We installed cultured marble on the walls and questioned Provider name locked. several times about installing the marble on the ceiling as well because it was so low. He said that it was not necessary. We had two other contractors tell us that they would have done it no other way than to install cultured marble on the ceiling. One told us we would have a water problem and potentially a mold issue five years down the road if we left the ceiling drywalled only. It is this advice we took,  and we paid extra to do this.
      At settlement, we were presented with a document that omitted mutually agreed upon credits for items that we purchased directly.
    One of those items included the tile in the kitchen and bathroom, plus labor. Provider name locked. thought that Provider name locked. had covered that cost. Thank goodness for my note-taking and receipts.  As a result, we were credited for those items.

  • Provider name locked. and Provider name locked. make a great team. They work well together, and they are both committed to growing their business one satisfied customer at a time. They also happen to be really nice, down to earth people. When we first contacted Provider name locked. , we had a very rough idea of what we wanted in the basement. We wanted to turn a small 3/4 bath into a master bath and consolidate old hvac in a utility room to make room for a master closet. They were patient with us as we honed in on what we wanted, but they were not particularly helpful from a design perspective. They told us that there was not enough space to accommodate both a bath and closet and presented us a plan for just a bath remodel. After playing with the floor plan, I came up with a design that would give us what we wanted, and the plan worked out just as we expected.

    The subcontractors that work with Provider name locked. are extremely competent and trustworthy. They show up and get the work done. They are respectful, and when any issues did arise, Provider name locked. worked with them to rectify. They really have a slew of great subcontractors to call upon, and I think this is their greatest asset.

    Provider name locked. did much of the work himself, including the framing and tile work, and we were very impressed with the work he did. He does not cut corners or do anything "good enough." This is part of the reason that Provider name locked. is not the cheapest bid you'll receive. For example, when we tore down an existing wall, we discovered that some previous remodel clearly left a load bearing wall with some damage that could compromise the structural integrity of the space, and rather than ignore it and just breeze through the job, Provider name locked. brought in an engineer to take a look and then completely rebuilt the wall. He discussed this with us before proceeding, and it did incur an additional cost.

    In my opinion, the only draw-back of working with Provider name locked. is that their services are in such demand (With good reason) that they take on multiple projects/ clients at the same time. This means that they are not ever-present on any one job, and its when they're not on site that mistakes get made. My husband and i both work during the day, and were not always aware of what was being done on what day, so at the end of the day we would survey what had been done. For example, the electrician came by one day, and when he left we found that the outlets and lighting had been wired and roughed in. The outlets and light switches were awkwardly placed, and the placement for the sconces were all wrong, but we had never been asked or consulted with about these placement details. When we called Provider name locked. , he came by and agreed that placement was awkward. Because the drywall was already in place, to make changes would require drywall repair and additional cost to rectify. We had to move the sconces, but we still have unsightly covers where the sconces were previously roughed in because we would otherwise have to remove a whole wall of drywall. The outlets could not be moved without a great additional cost, so we live with the less than ideal electrical layout. Moving the sconces did incur additional cost for electrical and drywall repair/paint, which Provider name locked. agreed to split with us. While noble, this mishap would not have occurred in the first place if there had been better communication.

    In the end, the space looks great, and other than some minor snafus, we are very satisfied. In fact, we are currently talking with Provider name locked. about taking on some additional work for us. I would definitely recommend this team, but constant communication is key.
