Garage Building reviews in Salt Lake City

    Bonfire Building Corp
I hired Brandon Bateman of Bonfire to build a 26 ft x 26 ft detached garage in May of 2019. I had to terminate his contract the end of September 2019 because of his unresponsiveness. He started the project by performing up to the framing and exterior sheeting but then left it unfinished. I needed to get garage completed before winter with roofing/siding and door. He would go weeks without contacting me about my job. I tried calling him multiple times, but his voicemail was always full. The only way I could contact him was via text. Most of my texts would go unanswered. When I finally threatened to go to his office/house in order to talk to him he would respond with some bogus excuse. Every time there was some excuse. Except for the last time I texted him that I was firing him and giving him two weeks notice to get the project done. No acknowledgement or pleading - nothing. Brandon Bateman is unprofessional, and a liar. He would make promises he had no intention of keeping. Do not hire Bonfire. He has poor reviews on every service. He has a D- rating on BBB as of October 2019. Check out other reviews this is not an isolated experience. Beware of the low bid contractor and do your homework. If I could rate him any lower I would.

Rodger and Lisa do an amazing job! They offered some great design ideas and loved their suggestions! Incredible work, attention to detail and on time. I will be using them again and have already recommended them to friends and colleagues.

    Grant's Handiman Service
We found out he had no business license, Worker's Comp, or insurance. Originally contracted with Mr. Stringham to complete four jobs at our home - fix a cinder block wall, add vinyl siding to an existing shed, build a 12 x 12 shed on a concrete pad. The original bid was for $5,145.01. While he was working on the cinder block wall, we added an additional concrete pad for $1,450. The new total was $6,595.01. The cinder block wall is not level. There is a dip in the middle. He also asked for an additional $100 to complete the wall. The additional concrete pad (for $1,450) has no re bar (the purpose was to park a truck). This was done incorrectly. The 12 x 12 shed - the pad was poured incorrectly. There was absolutely no way a 12 x 12 shed could be built. He built a 11 x 11 x 13 x 13 shed. The pad was not level. It slops to the wall at the back corner of the property creating a pool of water. There was no membrane between the concrete and the wood. There are also places where there is a 2" gap between the concrete floor and the wood. He asked for an additional $100 for wood. This brought the total cost for the project to $6,795.01. We paid for most of the supplies ($2,787.36), wages ($912.80), and cash to him ($1,567.34) in the amount totaling $5,267.50. He walked off the job with only the sides of the shed up. He attempted to leave our home with the supplies we had purchased. The balance due was $1,527.51. Just a little less than half of what was owed on the shed. The cost to finish the shed - purchasing the shingles, board for the roof, nails, caulk, labor to complete the siding and roof, drilling holes in the cinder block wall are in excess of the balance due Mr. Stringham. The shed still has a stream running through it when it rains. Please beware of doing business with this person. He is now threatening us with a law suit if we do not pay him and additional $500 for supplies that he purchased (that should have been covered by the $1,567.34 paid) We did contact DOPL. A citation was issued to Mr. Stringham for doing business without the proper licenses.

Bonfire Building completed a garage for me in summer 2018. I paid a deposit, a 50% payment, and then the balance upon completion. My interactions with Brandon Bateman last year were what you would expect from a contractor... lots of promises about timelines that ultimately were delayed. That being said, the work was ultimately done the way I wanted it and the prices he quoted me initially were fairly close to what ultimately I had to pay. I paid in full in September 2018 and didn't think twice from there. However, yesterday I received a notice from Geneva Rock Products that they have a lien placed on my home for more than $2000 because Brandon did not pay them for the concrete they poured for my garage. Did you know that a subcontractor or supplier can go after you even if you pay your contractor in full? So now I am on the hook with Geneva Rock for that funding and will have to take Bonfire to small claims if they do not respond. I have attempted to contact them but have not received a response. He actually butt dialed me by mistake and then would not acknowledge me when I called him back, texted him, and E-mailed him. If you use Brandon at Bonfire or any contractor, ask to pay the subs directly or get proof that they have paid subs before paying in full. That is what I have learned from this whole process. Wish me luck, it looks like I will be going to small claims soon!

The builder stated he would send me quotes. He never communicated with me again. I left texts and phone calls. If he did not want to take on the project it would have been professional of him to let me know and not leave me hanging.

    Wright's Shed Co
Omar, Oscar, and Jorge came exactly on time on the day of installation. They were very professional, and really knowledgeable in building the shed. They went above and beyond in what you'd expect of a shed build.

Needed a bid, they came out and looked at the job said they would get a bid and get back to me in 3 days. Never followed up or returned messages I left several over 2 weeks. Sounds like it was good I didn't hire for the job.

If you are looking for someone to oversee the construction of a garage, Brandon really knows his stuff. He was very familiar with building codes and gave a thorough overview of options and challenges during our initial meeting with him. the project started exactly when promised and stayed on schedule. All of the subcontractors were extremely courteous and professional and very, very good. I would use Bonfire again without hesitation.
My only suggestion would be to be write out exactly what you want as you enter the agreement. There were a few mistakes or things that were missed because it was discussed verbally and we never followed up on it. Know exactly what you want and get it in writing at the outset because the project, for us anyway, moved REALLY quickly.

We just bought a new home and needed to tear down an old garage and have a nice new one built and we used them. They
completed the garage and did a fantastic job. They demolished the old garage and build a new one. This is probably built better than my house. They were able to complete the job on budget and on time. There were a couple of things that needed to be completed after but they were really minor. Everything went really well.
