We were very impressed with CB Chandler’s quality of work, timeliness, and their professionalism throughout the project. We couldn’t be more happy with our brand new kitchen, dining area, and den. I would recommend CB Chandler to anyone.

It could not have gone any worse.

They were consistently behind schedule, and over budget. Many agreed upon details (we thought) changed without explanation, and when we brought up these issues they would let us know that changing course would affect the timeline and the budget. Without going into all the painful details the bottom line is that they did not have the money to pay their subcontractors in a timely manner, or at all so the work was seldom done on time. The project manager consistently did not evaluate the work done by the subcontractors, leaving us to discover the issues after we had moved back in. For example the HVAC system required over 10 additional visits by the workman and major pieces had to be replaced before it was fully functional. This should have all been caught at the point of installation. Towards the end of the project we ended up paying the subs ourselves so that issues could be corrected. After our loan had closed and Watershed had signed the waiver indicating that all the subs had been paid we began to find out that most of them had not been paid. To date 5 subcontractors have threatened us with mechanics liens and we have been served with one so far.

What was most painful and disappointing to us was that we were so looking forward to a collaborative and interesting partnership with what appeared to be a talented and innovative design and build firm. It is true that some of the features turned out really well, and we appreciate those bits, but the process was so painful that we could never ever recommend this firm.
If anybody contemplating hiring Watershed cares to contact us via Angie's list we'd be happy to discuss our experience.

Don is very responsive, with a better vision than the homeowner's (i.e. us).  We've been happy thus far, especially when we weren't sure about the actual value of having plans drawn up.  We basically had them done for our benefit, so we could get a better sense of the options.  It turned out Don's drawings were supremely useful in getting an estimate for the work. The contractor not only knew of Don, he praised his work and technical skills, which was reassuring.

After purchasing the Big Deal, we waited a few weeks and then contacted the company to set up an appointment. The representative was on time when he came to our house. He spent a long time talking over our wants and needs with us and he took notes as we talked. We were feeling really optimistic about the landscape plan. He left, saying he would draw up the plans and get back to us. Months passed. Finally we contacted the company again and made another appointment for him to come to the house and show us the plans. The plans were okay but he had forgotten to incorporate many elements that we discussed. He emailed us a pdf of the current plan and said he would update them to reflect our needs as well as deliver a hard copy. That was in June. Still haven't heard from him.

Our project was the update of a 2400 sq ft TV room stuck in the 70's.  Our project received 19 submissions, mostly from US based designers but also submissions from India, Finland and the Austria  Questions from the designers were posted on a common "wall" and answered by the client.  Most of the submissions include colored renderings of their proposals with many including color and fabric recommendations.  We were very pleased with the results and the whole process.

Our house is on a small 9 acre lake.  I built our dock 30 years ago while the lake was dry (another long story).  Hurricane Gaston, in 2004, lifted my posts out of the lake bed and left me with a shaky platform which continued to get worse over the years.  We called Bruce at Professional Design Group, and he promptly developed a sketch and estimate to replace the dock.
It took a couple of weeks, because the work was interrupted by rainy weather.  I'm impressed with the craftmanship - 6x6 supports, not 4x4's; lay the deck planks out for a few days to dry; mitered corners and perfect fit everywhere.
The price estimate came in somewhere between "it's a no-brainer - do it" and "no way", so we paused a little bit before signing on, but Bruce and his crew did a great job.  I'd  have them back again.

Their drafting is basic, standard and fast so their product wasn't detailed enough for what I wanted. They were originally supposed to give me full drawings with structural advice because they are a structural engineering group. They only gave me a drawing of what the addition would look like. They were not very responsive when I was sending emails back and forth to correct any mistakes. Initially they were good. I stopped using them because I could draw better drawings myself. Their price was very reasonable if I didn't have experience at all using Cad. It was reasonable and affordable. The quality was okay. Initially their responsiveness was good. They were originally punctual and not punctual after the fact. They were late on sending me the drafts and then they were not responsive. I have since brushed up on my Cad skills so I won't need them.

They were outstanding A to Z. Their quality and timing were great. They completed the job on time like they said and they even added on some extras for us. They gave us what they call is free dental work with the soffit.

We met with Don and described what we wanted in a garage.  He asked a lot of questions to help narrow down the project.  Based on this session, Don created preliminary drawings which we received by email.  We asked questions and suggested changes and then Don created 5 sets of final drawings which are being used to obtain bids for the project. This was a very pleasant experience.  Don was quite thorough (the contractors have been able to give us estimates without any problem off of the drawings) and even provided the drawings in PDF format.  He was very fast, surprising us with how quickly he completed the project.

The conversation was great. He had years and years of experience, and offered lots of appreciated advice. We left wanting to hire him, after checking his references, of course. Well, after 3 requests , we never got a single reference or a rcall back. End of our interest in that architect!.
