    Michael & Son Services Richmond
I requested a quote to replace our existing 2.5 ton unit. We wanted to keep our existing Oil based heating system as our backup. I made this fact clear both when we submitted the request on Angies List and over the phone with the company when they called to schedule the visit. When the Tech came to our location I was informed that Michael and Son does not service, install or replace any unit that uses oil. I Can't really complain about the quality of their work as I haven't had them at my home in years but for the few times I have, including this one, they have not had the best customer service and they fail at listening to their potiential clients concerns.

    Kohmar Air Duct Cleaning LLC.
Damion with Kohmar Air Duct Cleaning came to my sisters home on May 13, 2019, to inspect the system and offer an estimate for duct cleaning. Less than three months prior, Bradley Mechanical had cleaned the ducts after a complete mold remediation of the home, but there were unusually high dust and mold levels in the weeks following. This was very odd because the home had been completely clean and dust free upon completion of the remediation. Damion, certified by the NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaning Association), immediately saw something wrong. There were no holes in the basement duct work where Bradleys crew could have inserted their vacuum. Damion said that a number of holes should have been drilled for a system that size. He suggested a video inspection, where a camera is run down into the ducts to record their condition. Despite a very tight schedule, Damion was able to fit the video inspection in on May 23. Brian Kohring, the owner, also came along. The results of the inspection were astonishing. The photos showed that the basement duct work had not been cleaned at all. Damion and Brian kept in touch with me via cell phone calls, texts and photos that afternoon and throughout the evening. They were at the same time kind and supportive with me and appalled with Bradley Mechanical. Damion has been immensely helpful and empathetic throughout the entire process. I cant speak highly enough of Damion and Kohmar. If I had investigated duct cleaning as thoroughly as I read up on mold remediation before hiring a contractor, I would have recognized the value of the NADCA certification and hired Kohmar instead.

    Bradley Mechanical Corp
Short version: Bradley Mechanical was paid $900 to clean the ducts in my sisters home immediately following a complete mold remediation. They didnt clean the ducts in the basement (see photos) and their process re-contaminated my sisters home with mold-laden dust spores, ruining over $17,000 of work. In February 2019, my sister needed air ducts cleaned in her home following a complete mold remediation. Bradley Mechanical was suggested. When I called, I asked specifically if they were experienced with duct cleaning in conjunction with mold remediation and was told "yes" by the company rep. On Feb. 21, 2019, I met with Darryl McCaulley, Bradley's Performance Manager, to inspect the system and discuss the job. The mold remediation contractor was also at that meeting. I emphasized again the need for the duct work to be cleaned without re-contaminating the house. At that point the entire house had been cleaned and treated for mold, with only the duct work remaining to be cleaned and treated. The ducts were closed throughout the entire remediation process and were not opened until Bradley's crew came on Feb. 27 to clean the ducts. Hunter Cash and one other crew member came in, set up and went to work. They seemed to be vacuuming out the ducts from the first floor with a powerful vacuum from the truck, but I am not familiar with duct cleaning so I may be wrong about this. The second technician commented on the large number of cat toys they were bringing up while we were still on the first floor. They went into the basement, where I spoke to them briefly. Hunter said they were going to fog the basement duct work with an antimicrobial fog (which he could not name when I asked). I left them to it. They completed the entire job in 2 or 3 hours, as best I recall. I left to return to my home in Texas three days later. Friends visiting in the third week of March noted unexpectedly high levels of dust and one of them started coughing. The friend also noted that the air filter was filthy. The friends tested for molds and the lab report showed levels to still be high (Level 4). I had been there when the mold remediation contractor did his work and had seen how clean the house was when he finished, so this was a complete surprise. I called Bradley Mechanical on May 15 and talked to Chelsea. I explained the situation and asked to speak to their top duct cleaning expert. Chelsea said that Hunter Cash, the installer who does all of their duct cleaning jobs, was out working. I said that I would like for a Bradley representative and Hunter Cash to meet with the mold remediator to look at the system together so they could explain what had been done before opening up the ducts. Chelsea said she would have to talk to her manager. Unhappy with Chelsea's unwillingness to transfer to me to someone willing to discuss the situation, I told her that, if it is found that Bradley did not clean the ducts properly, and it turns out that Bradley is responsible for re-contaminating my sisters house after over $17,000 worth of mold remediation work was performed, that I would be coming back to Bradley. Nobody from Bradley has responded or called back. Chelsea in the office is the only person who has spoken to me so far. I contacted a second company for an inspection: Kohmar Air Duct Cleaning. The inspector Damion said that the basement ducts had no holes to indicate that they had ever been opened. He said that, based on the size of the system, several holes should have been opened in the basement ducts. First he videotaped the completely intact, unopened ducts. Then he opened up a hole in the return and ran a camera in to take photos. Brian, the company owner, also took photos of the HVAC return and supply ducts. The attached photos speak for themselves. Dust holds mold particles, so all of my sisters possessions that could hold dust were hauled to the landfill prior to remediation: upholstered furniture, rugs, blankets, her entire library of books. Everything was cleaned before it was packed and moved out of the house, every surface in the house was cleaned and fogged, air scrubbers were run for several days and then boxes and furniture were cleaned as they were being moved back in. The house was entirely clean and dust-free by the end of the mold remediation process. My sisters home could not have produced those masses of dirt and dust in three months time. Not only did they fail to do the job they were paid for, Bradley Mechanical re-contaminated my sisters home immediately after mold remediation had been completed. Why they would claim to know anything at all about duct cleaning in conjunction with mold remediation, and then botch the job so completely and carelessly, is beyond me. This goes beyond negligence. If its not criminal, then it should be.

Dave, the General Manager, was very responsive in coming to my house, making an assessment and quoting a price. His team did an excellent job. So professional and thorough. After the job was completed, he sent pics of before and after on the many types of machinery. I was very pleased.

Automatic Climate Heating & Air Conditioning
Upon experiencing deficiencies in the cooling of my home over the summer, I had my heat pump inspected by a local HVAC service. They were contracted through my home warranty plan and I do not recall the company name. I was told that the system had just become "too old" and was not repairable. I began the process of soliciting quotes for replacement. I called a local "big" company who I won't name, but is well known through their TV advertising and locally flavored name. They sent out a representative who briefly opened the door to my crawlspace, then viewed and photographed my air handler without stepping inside. From this I received a quote for a brand new heat pump system. Two days later I called Automatic Climate Control to ask for a quote for comparison. Michael Snipes came out the next day, opened the door to the crawlspace and immediately saw a section of ductwork collapsed on the ground and broken open. He then entered the crawlspace and spent about 20-30 minutes evaluating the situation. He provided me with quotes to replace the system, but not before explaining to me that much of my cooling problems were due to the collapsed and open duct work. Inside that ductwork was considerable mold and other biohazards, which he had photographed and showed me. He suggested to me that I open a service request to have the system looked at again, even if I chose to have another company do this, before I decide to replace it. I did make a call for service that afternoon, and I requested Automatic Climate Control through my home warranty contract. Their technician came out the next day, found the duct work broken in three places and losing 80% of the conditioned air into the crawlspace. He also found that the blower motor was faulty and needed replacement. I had Automatic Climate Control replace the blower motor which was covered under warranty. I also had them replace the main trunk of duct work which had collapsed and was biologically contaminated, and clean my remaining duct work. This was all done promptly in a single day. I am happy to say that my home is cooler and cleaner smelling than it has been in years, thanks to Michael and ACC. They chose to do right by me and not just offer to replace a system at considerable cost, which I didn't need. I will look to them for all of my service needs in the future, and when it comes time to actually replace my aging heat pump, Automatic Climate Control will be doing the installation. They saved this customer thousands of dollars instead of selfishly lining their own pockets. Thank you so much!

They took several weeks to respond to the initial request on Angie's list but they bid the job less than another company. That was my first mistake. The job went very poorly. The manager forgot to bring a part to do the job and took an hour getting back. They left finger prints on the ceiling and didn't clean up the lint from the dryer that was left out front. The vent grills weren't placed back properly and were crooked. They left the door to the cats open and did a very sloppy job. My son was very upset about the clean-up and will never use them again.

    Master Clean
I used them two years ago and they cleaned all of the vents. I would not use them again because we had a repeated situation with them where we tried to contact them. We had a five year warranty on the cleaning and someone came out and thought they saw mold and come to find out we didn't have mold. It was difficult to get an appointment scheduled with them. The guy did not show up the first day and we called and he stated that he ran out of cleaner and someone stole his clothes so he wasn't able to come out. We scheduled an appointment for the next day and he stated that since I did not answer the phone he stated that he wasn't coming. We called him back and we had to play catch up with trying to get the appointment scheduled. The experience the first time around was great but I will choose someone else next time.

It went really well! Carol, who scheduled us, was very friendly on the phone and got us in when they could. They were able to clean out our vents with heavy debris and even with a rodent or two....yikes! The gentlemen that came were courteous and worked well around our boxes and furniture. Thank you! We will recommend you!

They did a very good job; it just didn't really help. Air ducts just don't stay clean. I mean, that the nature of the work is you clean air ducts and then they get dirty again, so that's not their problem. They did a fine job. They just don't stay clean in an old house. I don't think there was anything that they didn't do. We were pleased with them. We called them, they came, they cleaned the ducts. They were very responsive. I think they were punctual. They came when they said they would come. I don't think I'd bother to clean the air ducts again because I think that they don't stay clean. I don't think I would do it again, but if I were going to do it again, I would use them. They were reasonable. They did what they said. They were clean and neat.
