  • I hired Hearthstone Home Inspections to conduct an inspection on the house I was in the process of buying. My inspection was assigned to the owner, Frank. I cannot sufficiently state how pleased I was with Hearthstone's services. Frank was INCREDIBLY thorough and really represented my interests as a buyer. He was diligent and careful, but also very fair. His report was helpful and very, very prompt. I would recommend Frank (and Hearthstone in general) to family and friends who need a home inspection during the buying or selling process. As a first-time home-buyer, I was very happy with their services.

  • Brian was early and set about the inspection. He demonstrated a lot of experience and familiarity with the type of furnace and steam radiators in the house and had helpful advice for maintaining it. He pointed out concerns with a skylight and other window issues that we are now in the process of negotiating with the sellers. He was professional and friendly and answered all our many questions. Also, Brian really helped us out. On the day of the inspection the electricity was not on, it had unexpectedly been disconnected, so Brian was unable to inspect anything electrical, including access to the garage. Rather than being put out by this inconvenience, he worked with us. He offered to fit us in once we got the electricity turned back on so he could finish inspecting the electrical, all the appliance, and the garage. Once we managed to get the electrical turned on he fit us in between two other appointments to finish the inspection. Thanks Brian!

  • The inspection was disjointed -- one guy did the walkthrough and talked about what he was seeing, but the other one wrote up the inspection, so the written report wasn't quite consistent with what we heard during the inspection. And we've learned over the past few months that both of them overlooked some issues that definitely would have affected the sale and negotiations if we had known about them: the condition of the plumbing (two plumbers who have since been in expressed surprise that the inspector didn't mention some of the issues they noted), the extent of water damage inside and out, and the condition of the roof and chimney. No one's perfect, of course, but these issues were all (I now know) plainly visible to the trained eye.

  • When the inspection was about to take place, we found out that it does not typically include exterior inspection but Mark was very accommodating and immediately adjusted the pricing and did this for us. He was very thorough and patient with my husband who had many questions. He also explained what repairs required professional attention as well those that could be done on your own (provided you have basic home repair skills).

  • Mike and Steve came through to inspect the new home I am buying a week or so ago. I was present during the inspection, and I have to say I was incredibly impressed at the attention to detail they exhibited. I was walked through any potential issue on the spot and was informed of the potential future issues, cost of repairs, etc. Not only that, he arrived 30 minutes early to conduct a preliminary outdoor inspection. I received the report back via email a few hours after the actual inspection, and was blown away at how much information and pictures were included. It was a total of 65 pages with detailed descriptions of every potential issue. Compare that to the 15 pages report that was done in my house I am selling (which another inspector conducted) which lacked clarity, detail, pictures, etc. Even when I had a question about something on the report, I emailed him and received a response within an hour or two. Mike also has a program he uses called Recallchek, which runs serial numbers of appliances and other items to determine if there are any recalls. Sure enough, a recall came back for my refrigerator. It is great to be armed with this information. As an added bonus, Mike is a military veteran, something I can appreciate very much, and am very happy to support. The bottom line is that you should absolutely hire Mike and his team for your property inspections. It is WELL worth the cost for a quality inspection, and I would gladly give Mike a call again when needed. Keep the great work!

  • Ron is, as the other reviewer said, extremely ethical. He is also extremely kind and knowledgeable. Our realtor tried to talk us out of hiring him, saying he is "alarmist" and "not very good," and the seller's agent was openly disparaging of him and didn't even show up for the inspection. It's unfortunate, because Ron is one of the only people we encountered as potential homebuyers who seemed genuinely interested in helping us make an informed decision on the biggest purchase of our lives. And what happened was that Ron found that the house was badly in need of some extremely costly repairs and deferred maintenance. As a result, we dropped our offer and were thankful for his honest input, even though we desperately wanted the house so it wasn't what we wanted to hear. And, if you're wondering whether what happened was in fact that Ron WAS just being alarmist, here's what happened with that house: the people who eventually bought it used a very highly rated and difficult to book inspection company that's a favorite here on Angie's List. And after that inspection, they had the sellers repair, or repaired themselves, pretty much everything on Ron's list, almost to the letter. Knowing what they paid for that work and what they have still to address, I'm glad it's them and not us. A couple of caveats: the inspection went long. We were living in the house as tenants at the time, so it wasn't such a big deal for us, but it would be challenging in a different context. The presentation of the report also made it very hard to digest -- the report came in at around 170 pages and wasn't well organized, so it was a long read and not all that easy to parse. But these are minor quibbles given that the quality of the work was outstanding.

  • We received a detailed inspection report and were initially happy with the pool inspection. No major problems or anticipated repairs were indicated. However, within a few weeks of the inspection our pool pump had to be repaired, and the next year our liner ripped open across the shallow end. The tear was at least 7 ft long! On our inspection report our liner was noted as being in fair condition despite being completely bleached out. Upon farther investigation we found out our pool liner was 17 years old! I emailed the owner of the company expressing our dissatisfaction and requested that his company install the new liner for us at his normal rate minus the cost of the inspection--which proved to be useless! My e-mail was completely ignored.

  • He is very thorough and very knowledgeable. While inspecting the property, he took the time to explain the problems. He called in a specialist to inspect the heating system, and was quick to provide me with the finished report. I would highly recommend him.

  • The inspector showed up on time.  I wanted an inspector because this was my first house and I didn't know much about houses yet.  He wandered around and kept saying that he was afraid to touch anything or turn anything on (which was the whole purpose for hiring him).  In the end he left and said that the chimney should be repaired, which isn't even used for anything.
    Over the next few months I found dozens of problems with the house, things that people that know about houses should have noticed very easily.
    Total waste of money.
