Providence Wood Flooring Experts Reviews

and his entire crew are a top notch service provider. It was easy to see that all of them took great pride in their work and the desire to see a satisfied customer.
Price: When
Providence Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
came to our house for the cost estimate, he quoted us $1,500 - $700 less than the other two quotes we got from other contractors. When the work was completed, $1,500 was the total cost - and they even did more than we had expected.
Extra unanticipated services: They refinished the landing area alongside the curved stair case. They also refinished the edging under the banister between the posts. Neither of these things were requested, but were included in the total cost. Additionally, there were ~ 12 pieces of flooring that needed to be replaced due to past water damage at the house. The replacement boards were included. No unexpected last minute charges.

and crew actually were able to start the job a day earlier than originally anticipated. After the job started, on a daily basis, they kept us informed of when they would arrive and the expected duration of the job for that particular day.
Floor maintenance: They provided tips for short and long-term maintenance for the floors to keep it in good shape.
Bonus service: Once the job had started, the crew pulled the refrigerator and found a serious problem. The ice maker on the freezer had shorted out and the insulation at the waterline input had completely worn out and was corroded. This had resulted in rusty water leaking onto the hardwood floor underneath the refrigerator for some time. Having just moved into the house, we had no idea there was a problem. The crew immediately called us to let us know we needed to see the problem. They were able to assess the situation and indicated that the floor was not damaged to the point that boards would need to be replaced, but stressed that it was very important that we address the issue within a few months to prevent damage to their refinishing job and the floor itself.
Overall: Great value, class act service provider. When we need the floors refinished many years down the road, I would be confident to work with this business again, and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

came to give us an estimate the day we called. We scheduled the work the next week and had to cancel because we were not ready .... His workers came were very professional, clean (no dust at all), and efficient.
We love our "new" floor"!

was very responsive in answering the phone, coming to the house quickly to look at the job, and even in providing next day service (I got lucky because a lot of customers had lost power that week and he had cancellations). The young men he had working for him were also very friendly and professional. The floors looked pretty afterwards and I concur with others that the dust really wasn't that bad. The price was also fair and competitive with other quotes I received.

I do have criticisms however.

The first thing that I didn't like was that I was asked to pay before I could inspect the finished work. The floors were completely wet with urethane that had been put down only minutes before, and I couldn't walk on them to see whether there were any problems with the finished project (I could scarcely look at them either because of the smell).
Providence Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
got very testy about that and didn't understand where I was coming from. He said the floor was guaranteed if there was anything wrong.

True to his word, after it dried, there was a place where the wood had chipped off leaving no urethane and some spots where the finish looked thin. I asked for a third coat and they came back that very day and put one on without complaint. The floor actually chipped again, but I didn't ask them to come back because I suspect it was the floor's deteriorated condition in that one area, and not the fault of the refinishers.

I let the floor air out with the windows open for about two weeks, and waited another couple of weeks with the windows closed, before I slept in there. After I started sleeping in there, I started having a lot of difficulty breathing at night and it took me awhile before I began to wonder if it was something about the room itself. Honestly, I have asthma and stuff like that happens, it is often hard to pinpoint where the problem is coming from. I wondered if there was mold somewhere in the walls before it occurred to me that maybe the floor was causing the problem.

I had to call

back anyway because he had never given me a receipt for the job, and because I wanted to know the brand of urethane so that I could fix that chip, and now I also wished to find out if it was an oil finish that could be outgassing. He told me the brand and where he had purchased it. I called the company to ask about the product and the salesperson launched into a critique of the product. He said it was unsafe for residential use and particularly a bad idea when small children were in the home (I do have a three year old)-- that the product was intended for commercial use and that Ace was the only company in

Island that used it in homes and the salesperson thought it was irresponsible. I was shocked as I hadn't said anything yet about my breathing concerns (maybe he was psychic though because I was about to--), the fellow had just let his opinions fly as soon as I asked whether it was an oil finish.

I opened the windows back up and set some fans back up to blow out any leftover gasses for another week. About a month later, I moved back into the room and haven't had any sleeping/breathing issues since. I can't say the the issues I had were definitely from the floor, but I am kicking myself that I didn't think to have the conversation about the toxicity of various floor finishes BEFORE I made the choice to go with the moisture-cure urethane.
Providence Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
only presented it as a fast dry product, which was perfect for the weather we were having at the time. Though I didn't need to sleep in the room right away, I did need to move a bunch of furniture and boxes in there quickly and that is why the fast dry time appealled to me.

So my criticism of
Providence Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
is three-fold: 1) Though I understand the need to pay in full when a job is complete, I don't agree that it is complete when there is a wet floor you can't inspect; 2) He didn't give me a receipt on completion and I had to ask for it twice; and 3) I think he should broach the subject of the possible health effects of the floor finishes available when selling a floor, and not just the drying time/hardness factors.

The main reason I wouldn't use
Providence Wood Flooring Experts Provider Name Locked
again isn't because I don't value their work or think I got a fair deal, but because I know that this review is going to make

mad. Sorry

"The owner was easy to reach by phone. He clearly explained the options available to me with regard to the different types of finishes. He came in person to do the estimate and showed up on time. He seemed more professional and knowledgeable than the other companies who came. I had heard a rumor about his company using very young crews and asked him about it. He told me his sons were the "kids" I had heard about, and that each one was a crew chief, and that the 20 year old who would be heading up my crew had done over one thousand floors already in his career and knew what he was doing. He was able to start with 2 days notice. The crew showed up on time and got right to work. They were 4 young guys who worked hard. In the first day, they sanded the whole house and put down the first coat of finish. The second day (saturday) they put down the second coat. The owner offered me a 2 coat solution that cures quicker and ends up harder than a 3 coat product which none of the other companies did. Overall I found them professional, quick, and of good quality. The only thing I might mention is that they are more expensive than the competition. In my case, the house was empty and getting the job done quickly and with highest quality was the most important.

Overall, I was impressed with how much they got done and how quickly. The picture below shows how dark my original floor finish was and how much the look will improve once it is refinished. I don't have a picture of the refinished floor to show.

was wonderful! He arrived right on time, walked through the house with us, gave us an approximation as to what the repairs would be and offered a formal estimation for the work, if we needed it at this time. He did not charge us for the drive from

, and he was very kind, caring, attentive and detail oriented as he walked through the entire house with us and told us what he was seeing, and what needed to be done. He even told us what needed to be done now, and what could wait if need be. He gave us over an hour of his time. I would surely use

"They scraped the entire 4000 square foot house (two stories) primed and painted it with great attention to detail. Removed all the deteriorating coating on foundation (50'x26') and recoated with proper material. Awesome Job. Great price. **UPDATE** One year later it still looks good. I found a relatively small, out of the way area that had been primed but not painted. I called Joy (Yovanni) and he and his crew came and painted it free without any questions within a few weeks. Great service, honest guy."
"The first day they arrived at my home right on time and spent 3 hours -- removed the old carpet, sanded and put the first poly coat on. The next 2 mornings, showed up on time bright and early -- sanded and put on second poly coat. Plus, plugged any small holes in the floor. In fact, they finished this morning! The price was exactly what they quoted me. My floor looks absolutely beautiful. In fact, next I plan to have the rugs pulled up and the hardwoods redone in my bedrooms. I will be calling Abba again. I would recommend this company without hesitation to everyone."
"This is an excellent, efficient company. The owner always answers the phone and is very responsive. They will come immediately with an estimate and stick with it. I got estimates from several different flooring companies and Ace Flooring had the lowest. The work was done within 48 hours of calling them. It was a overall great experience."

was great! He was very nice, a hard worker and always on time. I was inspired by how he and his crew got right to work the first morning. They were already running saws and tearing up the wood that needed replacing in the first five minuets. Amazing!"
"I would recommend them because I think that their work was great. They came on time and they got the job finished when they were supposed to. They also cleaned up when they were done. The service was good."
