    Herb Travis Handyman Services
Not well. Spoke a lot about his personal life. Quoted $200 minimum per visit although I read on Angies List where he referenced $100 to others. Too many exchanges via text. Would not provide basic documentation which he should have readily available.

This is not the first or last time working with Steve. He remodeled my mother's house so well I asked him to do work in my own home. Not only does he do very good work but he is honest, knowledgeable, and dependable. I would not hesitate to recommend Steve. As a matter of fact I have already spoken to him about future projects.

It went well except for the fact that they tore up a separate section that was a separate wooden section. I didn't realize it until work was done. My main issue is that I have two large pieces of wood with nails sticking out. One piece I could return to its original place but it is too heavy for me to do on my own.

    Uncle Wayne's
The job took much longer than anticipated. About a month went by between the initial visit and when the job started. An estimate wasn't provided upon request and it was explained that the work was paid hourly and we would see how it progressed. The work was satisfactory but kind of sloppy (paint drops and specks found around the hardwood floor around the area that was painted, paint drops on granite pavers outside). The painting job of the doors had to be completely redone because the wrong paint was used. We bought the wrong paint but were surprised that he, as the professional, didn't know that it was the wrong paint until it started peeling. The re-do of the painting ended up having the job cost much more because of the extra hours billed. We were expecting better quality overall, so that is why we are grading it as a "C" (fair).

    Uncle Wayne's
Excellent! I have been using Uncle Wayne for 4 years. He did some work in an apartment, hung pictures, when I first moved to RI. When I moved into a house, I called him again and he straightened out a few electrical issues. He assembled and installed a bathroom vanity and created shelves in a closet. Wayne is reliable, reasonably priced and finishes projects. I highly recommend Uncle Wayne!

We needed a new tub carried up to our third floor. I spoke with Herb on the phone and answered all his questions; I told him the tub weighed 200 lbs. He agreed to send some guys the next morning to carry it upstairs for $150. The guys who came were nice and accomplished the job. I paid them and they left. A few hours later, I received a call from Herb wanting another $150. He said that I never told him it was a jacuzzi tub and that $150 was only for a "regular tub". I reminded him that I told him the tub was 200 lbs. He claimed it was 300 lbs; I'm not sure how he could ascertain that since he wasn't present when the work was performed. Plus, the bill of lading from the shipping company showed the tub weighed 196 lbs. He hung up the phone in a huff. He was very unprofessional.

    RWL General Contractors
This was our 2nd time working with RWL and we got to meet even more of the family. Just like the first experience we were very satisfied. They painted an entire apartment for us (1300 sq feet) including trim and celings. This included some watermarked areas, some areas requiring plaster repair, and some unfinished DIY patchwork. Additionally while painting the bathroom RWL offered to install a bathroom vent (penetrating the siding) for a small additional fee. The employees again were very professional, did quality work and left the apartment cleaner than when they arrived. I believe the job ended up being quite a bit more work than they expected. This did not affect the quality of the work and they even went above and beyond to paint the outside of some cabinets which was not specifically identified in the quote. Although it was more work than expected, RWL respected the quoted price and did not invoice additional charges. RWL has been a pleasure to work with and I look forward to working with them in the future.

    THE NEW ENGLAND HOUSE DOCTOR
The initial walk-through for an estimate went very well. He was attentive and helpful and spent a good hour noting all the things that needed to be done. I was supposed to receive an estimate soon after that visit. However, he never ended up contacting me again, and it has now been five weeks. I even thought that something might have happened to him because this "ghosting" was in stark contrast to his enthusiasm during the visit for the estimate. Only after reading reviews for him completed very recently have I assumed that he simply didn't want the job. If this was indeed the case, he should have been communicated to me initially. A lot of time was wasted waiting to hear from him. I toyed with the idea of calling him to ask for the estimate during the last five weeks, but I thought twice and figured if I have to track down the contractor just for the estimate, who knows what type of tracking down I'd be in store for if he was hired. These are poor communication and business practices, and I am very disappointed in how this turned out. I do not like giving "F" ratings, but this particular situation has left me no choice.

Jorge came out to give an estimate. He made some suggestions which were beyond my budget. We quickly came to terms on what needed to be done now and what could wait; he offered a more than fair price. He did the job that day. Before he was done, he observed another matter which needed to be done; he made the extra repair at no additional charge.

Matt is a talkative, nice guy who comes across as very professional. However, I was totally let down by the quality of work that he performed. The railing on my deck had broken parts, it is rickety and the overall workmanship is of poor quality. Everyone who comes up the stairs in my house comments on the poor quality. Parents of little children ask them to stay away from the railing as it is of such poor quality. I tried to reach Matt per email, telephone and message and he never got back to me. He took the money and ran....didn't stand behind his job. Really disappointing. Please consider this before you go ahead and hire him. A handyman who's not ethical is the last thing you want. Oh yes almost forgot - he was suppose to put primer on the deck. He did use indoor primer outside.
