Absolutely delighted with the whole process and results. We needed to build an entryway coat cupboard to fit a small space, and we wound up adding three more storage areas. Sophia came in and made recommendations, sent us architectural renderings, and the actual work was completed in less than one day. John is a master cabinet maker, minimally invasive, and very nice. We were able to design storage downstairs that matched the historic wood colors of our condo, and create a more modern effect upstairs in a neutral pale that goes with the mid-century modern style of the guest room.

    Kinder Remodeling
It has been an absolute pleasure to work with the Kinder team and I would definitely call again for any work. The staff was always timely and even locked up for me on days I had conflict. We bought a new house and did a full kitchen remodel before moving in. They worked well and consulted when needed with my other contractors. This is a family owned business and when they work with you they treat you as if you were part of the family, listening to your requests, and making sure you get what you want. Most impressive was how well the team worked together, no squabbling that you hear with other teams. They will often discuss the best approach to a problem but it is professional and yields excellent results. I also found them exceptionally responsive utilizing both phone and text messaging timely. As for the work, I could not be happier with the outcome. I highly recommend this team.

    KBA Contracting Enterprises LLC
Full reimagining of a 1920's colonial being used as an illegal 3-family. With bruce, jay and the whole kba team, we converted the 2nd and 3rd floor into a 2 story town home. The true value in working with kba is the quality of craftsman they employee. Their finish carpenter is a consummate professional and daily impressed my wife and I with his skill and expertise. The entire third floor was ripped down to the studs and re-laid out to create an open Coastal Corttage interior design dream space. I've done many construction projects and remodels over the years and KBA is hands down the most honest group I've ever worked with.

At the end of our project, after weekly project meetings/updates, including revised budget reflecting change orders, they told us the project was 30% over budget and claimed, since we had a cost + contract, that we owed that amount! They had never thought to mention that fact during our weekly project meetings?! They we unable or unwilling to provide detailed cost reports to justify their claim, and in our opinion much of the over-run was due to their mismanagement, poor use of their internal and sub-contracted providers, and general incompetence. I will say many of their employees seemed nice and helpful, but the management team of Peter and Matt cannot and should not be trusted. IMO their actions on our project bordered on the fraudulent, and I have heard that they have other similarly dissatisfied clients. If you do choose to use them, have a lawyer review your contract before agreeing to anything with these guys, require any/all changes to be agreed in writing (with specific budget numbers), demand a detailed and accurate project accounting and timeline/Gannt chart, and manage them and the project closely. However, my advice is: run, don't walk, away from Site Specific.

The service provider prefers to start work as early in the day as possible. His price is reasonable and compared to previous contractors that I've worked with, he's very responsive and returns calls promptly He is very thorough and clean, and at the end of each day gave an update on his progress. Overall, fantastic craftsmanship and no short-cuts.
    About the projects.
The Jefferson-style staircase: it's a staircase that is meant for tight quarters but still has full-depth, full-width stair treads with alternating openings. We specifically requested this type of staircase in lieu of the spiral staircase because of the area it occupied in the living room. He took the appropriate measurements and drew plans for us prior to starting work and estimating the cost of the project. Once we approved he started work on the project. The stairs are outstanding and very sturdy, and look much better than the pre-fab spiral staircase that once occupied that space!
The Mudroom Cabinet: This cabinet is a full floor-to-ceiling cabinet with a bench and cubby holes. This was a custom design that we requested. After taking the appropriate measurements and asking what we wanted, he had drawn plans for it and waited for approval prior to building the cabinet off-site. The bench and cabinet again, like the staircase, are an example of his outstanding craftsmanship.
Openings and doors:We had requested the 32" door in our downstairs half-bath to be changed for a 36" door, opening the opposite way to accommodate guests with wheelchairs. This was a quick project and he was able to get it done in a short amount of time despite the work required to re-frame the opening. The master bathroom in the house had no closet, but the walk-in closet had ample room for towels, etc. He suggested allocating part of the master closet for the bathroom, and we did so. We ordered a custom door for the new opening. This was another project we expected would take longer but again, despite the requirement to frame the opening and the challenge of a double-door, he was able to install it with ease.

The house is 114 years old and I had them refinish the back hallway. They built two custom cabinets where the icebox was and tile the floor. There was a lot of minor damage from the last 100 years as well that they repaired. I was very pleased with the work that was done, everything was explained to me, additional costs and repairs were pointed out as well.

Contractor established an appointment with me and did not show up. When I called to inquire as to his whereabouts he had no idea who I was or that he had scheduled an appointment three days prior. Contractor stated that he must have forgotten to put me in his calendar. I unfortunately have very little free time and had rearranged my schedule to be available on his time table - then he does not show up or even have a recollection of the appointment. If reliability is important to you and time is your most limited commodity, choose someone else.

This turned out to be a much more complicated job than expected: who would have guessed that there was a vent pipe in the wall just where the medicine cabinet had to go? Derek coordinated work with the plumber who came to reroute the pipe, and did a great job not only in installing the cabinet but in piecing together the much-mutilated wallboard so that it looks like nothing happened.
The only downside was that it took a while to schedule the work, because he is so busy. But it was worth the wait. It was a pleasure to work with Derek and we will certainly hire him again when something comes up.

My kitchen is from the 1950s and oddly arranged, with nooks and crannies. Kathy measured everything carefully and then advised me on a floor plan. The space was not large enough for all the features I wanted, but Kathy was very clever in finding ways to fit things in, including an island with trash, bookcases and a cabinet! She also advised on changing the size of the window to better fit cabinets while not reducing light by much.
She worked hard to get a bid that fit my budget, with fairly high quality cabinets. She also recommended the best places to get high-quality discount fixtures, fridge and dishwasher.
Just before I was to order the cabinets, I had a house fire and my current kitchen, along with much of the house, had to be demolished and rebuilt. I was overwhelmed by the scope of the job and ended up changing to a full-service contractor who could handle all of the fixture buying and simultaneous reconstruction throughout the house. If the fire hadn't happened, I'd still be with Kathy quite happily.
