    LINDA SCOTT PIANOS
I didn't expect or like Linda's recommendation however she was so honest and demonstrated such integrity that I would absolutely recommend her services to friends and family. She offered to help me identify an affordable, quality piano if I sent her one that I was interested in - for free. She is one of those rare individuals that walks away from business when it is the right thing to do.

    Artisan Piano Services
They are great. We have used them for a couple of years to tune it and take care of it. They are top-notch. The pricing is very reasonable, they are very competitive. If anything is wrong, they come back out. They are very professional; they dress up, they have a truck that is designed for them. They come in beautifully dressed. They are amazing.

It has been a great service. The guy that has come out has done a great job for me and I appreciate the work that he has done and he has been very efficient and I've been very comfortable with him in my house. They're very good. Their prices are very competitive. I can't fault these guys.

    TRADE UP MUSIC
sales person became irate when i questioned something he said (he was know it all-ing me for no good reason). after i saw how things were going down i said - i'm just going to shop somewhere else. he practically yelled and quot;GOOD! - LEAVE!and quot; at that point, i decided to go talk to the manager. this was a mistake. the manager listened to the sales person tell his side of the story and then looked at me blankly - manager never said a word while the salesperson continued to berate me loudly in front of other customers. i've never felt so humiliated in my life - not at a store where i was planning to spend what would be a lot of money (at least for me). this is the second bad experience i've had a trade up music based on precocious, know it all sales people. will NEVER shop there again and will inform anyone who will listen that this place is just plain bad. their inventory isn't so great and their prices are outrageous for what it is. if the manager can't make the customer happy, well, i guess nobody there really cares if you're happy with their service or not. i would like to talk to the owner but don't plan to go anywhere near this establishment again.

I don't play the piano much anymore nor does anyone else in the family so I did not worry about a few keys on the old upright that were not working well and that the piano was out of tune. However, on Monday Dec 10 I realized  that  I was having folks over on Saturday Dec 15 for a caroling party and that there might, perchance, be someone who could play and would like to play and would like to play a functioning, well-tuned piano. AACK!  There would not possibly be time to make this happen.  I checked Angie's list to find a local company.  First call was to Artisan Piano Tuners.  The reviews were very favorable. The person who answered the phone was very helpful and set up an appointment for 0800 THE NEXT DAY!  Arriving promptly the next day, Joseph quietly entered the house, did not seem bothered by my dog, respectfully slipped off his outside shoes, and set about his work.  The tuning has not been done recently and there were some repairs that needed to be done; the visit took longer than scheduled and yet Joseph just kept working away.  When he was done he played a song on my old, wornout piano and it sounded so beautiful. I nearly cried. He charged me the agreed up price, including the $25 Angie's List discount.  We agreed that I should have the piano tuned more frequently than I have in in the past. You can bet that I will be calling Artisan Piano Services to do the job.

Our experience was great. I called about a tuning and to evaluate a sticking key issue. The service representative called en route to ensure I was still expecting him, and showed up promptly. He evaluated the sticking key issue, determined the needed repair, got me an immediate price, and took the key mechanism with him to be repaired immediately. The repair was done within 4 business days, and he then returned to install the repaired piece and fully tune the piano. It now sounds great and works wonderfully. It was a huge success!

    WALLY'S MUSIC SHOP
    1. I brought the accidentally damaged Eb/D trumpet into the shop on a Saturday without an appointment (Concert was Sunday). The technician on duty repaired it enough so the instrument was playable (no charge). After the concert, I returned for a complete repair. While I had some initial sticker shock, the Repair job was very high quality.
    2. The quality of service is consistently good for routine maintenance and enhancements. The ultrasonic and pro cleaning removes every brass stain inside and out, and they do the work in-house. Professional valve alignments are not a service typically offered in local shops unless you happen to live in the greater Los Angeles or Chicago areas. Hiring Wally's locally sure beats mailing a delicate musical instrument across the country.

    IMMORTAL PIANO CO
Martha is amazing...she knows pianos incredibly well, is very helpful and a pleasure to work with. She does piano restorations & repair, appraisals and also sells pianos that she restores. I was looking to buy a piano from Craigslist as a gift, and I know nothing about music. She did an onsite appraisal of one of them, and during that effort, she also showed me what to look for when buying a used piano. She was very thorough and inspected every last component, and has a detailed document she provides that outlines not just the work needed but how much it would cost.

That particular piano needed too much work, but she helped me find a different one, and even provided a little assistance over the phone to avoid me having to keep paying her for multiple onsite appraisals...that sort of honesty and ethic is rare in business, and I highly respect her for that.

If I had more money, I'd definitely buy one of the pianos that she's already restored. Just looking at them on her website, you can see the care and detail she puts into selecting high-quality pianos to restore, and into the restoration itself. If you are looking for a piano or need one repaired or restored, I'd highly recommend Martha and Immortal Pianos!

    PORTLAND MUSIC CO
My trumpet was severely bent to such degree that the valves no longer moved freely. Being a 1940's horn, repairing it was a sensitive operation- the metal is much more brittle and fragile than a new horn. The Broadway location has always done fantastic trumpet repairs for me and didn't disappoint this time- they had to completely detach and straighten the bell, round out the first valve casing, reassemble and clean the horn. I felt that the quality of work was fantastic and that $125 was a very reasonable amount to charge for such sensitive repairs.

    GUITAR CENTAUR
It went wonderfully. My granddaughter - a novice guitar owner - was to play at a birthday party on Sunday afternoon. She was brokenhearted when a string broke on her guitar just before she was to perform. At 6pm on a Sunday afternoon, we went to Centaur Guitar hoping to find a string and learn how to replace it. The staff was courteous ... even KINDLY ... in replacing her string on no-notice, making her feel better about it, and showing her how to do it. Portland is a particularly friendly city, but this was a very sweet experience, even for here! :)
