Lighting Installation reviews in Portland

    West Side Electric Company
As a realtor, I recommend West Side Electric to all of my clients needing electrical work, as they are very communicative and do high-quality at a competitive price. This project for my home involved installing an underground electrical conduit for an electric post in our backyard as part of an exterior renovation project. They also installed rewired the front porch wiring assembly as part of a porch rebuild, and, finally, installed all new sconces around our home. I would definitely recommend West Side Electric to anyone needing electrical contracting services! This involved several visits, and they were always quick to respond and make things right. I would highly recommend Ranieri Plumbing for a job like this, as well as any other plumbing project.

The project went very well. There were a couple of changes midstream that were difficult to implement, but Autumn and his crew helped conceptualize the complexities and code challenges, and always came up with reasonable solutions. His crew also has a good eye towards both style and pragmatism, so they were able to soundboard for us and turn our dark and cluttered basement into a super livable 1000 sf multi room addition. His crew also did a partial remodel of our upstairs bathroom and it's turned out fantastically as well.

    Hamish Murray Construction Inc
The entire Hamish Murray was professional, thorough, and timely. Everyone showed up as planned and they finished on time. Michael Hibbitts (project manager) was amazing! He was organized and had great communication. We had such a good experience with our remodel that we worked with them again to install a fence.

    Metropolitan Construction & Remodeling Inc
This is the third time we've hired Dan with Metropolitan Construction. Simply put: we trust him. He does what he says he's going to do, and he does it well. Dan excels at building relationships and surrounding himself with really good tradespeople and designers. He's not the most expensive or the least expensive, but he's incredibly honest and fair. And last but certainly not least, he's an excellent communicator and very responsive. Seriously. Whenever there were issues to be solved or unexpected delays (because with a remodeling project it's bound to happen), I never had to wonder about what was going on or when work would resume. Dan was always on top of it, and now we have a beautiful new kitchen!

    Ron Wackerly Construction
Ron and Mark did an incredible job. We had an unfinished basement and a garage room that had been converted but never finished. We added many changes along the way and they always accommodated us. It was a three month remodel and everything went smoothly. I cant say enough of what an amazing experience it was. We added a family room, bathroom, store room and laundry room.

    On Electric
On Electric provided us with a mid-range bid (not the lowest or highest bid we received), and was able to schedule us promptly. We had an 8:00 am appointment, and Mark of On Electric showed up on time (5 mins early, actually) and ready to go. He listened to what we wanted, provided a few options describing costs (that fell within the bid range) and potential impacts to drywall, and modified the suggestions further based on our feedback. Mark was kind, efficient, and the final job is flawless. We will use On Electric for all future electrical work .

We had a wonderful experience with Alex Freddi, from the imagining and design process, to Alex working with IKEA to get our kitchen design down, to working with Gary, our project manager. Both Gary and Alex were kind, prompt and quick to answer our instructions, and though I partly work from home, Gary's presence was a comfortable and light experience (we sort of miss having Gary around all the time!). One thing I didn't love was the quality of the paint job and some of the mess Gary left behind while he was working. Our basement was covered in sawdust after the electrical work was done (we waited a couple weeks for something to happen and eventually my husband cleaned it himself), and on the last day there was still drywall and sawdust in spots throughout the bathroom and kitchen. Additionally, we asked Gary to come back and clean up his paint job and add another layer of paint to the baseboard moulding because it was obvious it wasn't going to hold up to scuffing or dirt. While those two things were a little trying, it just took some honest communication on our parts (and we probably should have brought these things up sooner, but we're new to this) and Gary took care of the problem efficiently and kindly. The kitchen especially is a dramatic transformation from what it was before, and we are absolutely loving it and so relieved things are done up to code now. While we didn't do a ton of work in the bathroom, what Gary did do has made such a huge difference it doesn't at all feel like the same room. We are so grateful and will 100% call Alex Freddi again for any other remodeling.

I don't think my project would have come out as well as is did if I had not had Alex in my corner. He was more of a subcontractor since I was doing quite a bit of the work my self, but was so helpful in letting me know the how and where for's of running a project. He went far beyond what he was obligated to do for me, making sure I knew all of the ins and outs of permits, inspections and just generally there when ever I had a question. It was so nice to have someone respond timely to my e-mails and kept informed on my progress so he could have his people in to keep things running smoothly. Without a doubt I will work with Alex again on any construction projects I my have in the future.

    Young Electric
We had used young electric before and they were always prompt but require payment up front and withhold services until paid in full. For example we had asked them to help complete a permit that had been voided so we could sell our old house. They wouldnt give my realtor the new permit number because they said we hadnt paid. Meanwhile I had paid in full already, but someone hadnt told that to whoever my realtor talked to, and I could look up the permit number on pdx maps anyway so it was odd that they were withholding important information until the bill was paid when usually you just do your job and not treat it like some kind of extortion. Well we used them again against better judgement to do further electrical inspection and estimates for our new home to negotiate in the sale price of the home. We had bought an older home and young electric said we needed to move an electric panel to the exterior of the house as well as replace outlets and update them. Of note they did a full inspection and their were no other circuit issues noted. The electrician, Adam was prompt and pleasant and we appreciated his help. We did notice that our stair well 3 way light switch was no longer working after this service. When we brought this up we were told by another technician that it was a coincidence. They couldnt diagnose what had gone wrong but proposed to fix it with an exterior circuit for additional money ($400). We were a bit irritated as it seemed to be directly related to their work. My father is an electrical engineer and he agreed that something had gone wrong when they replaced the panel and they should repair it, especially after we paid so much for it. ($8000) When we said we wouldnt do the additional $400 the worker asking for it walked out of our home and refused to finish the work leftover from the panel until we paid the additional 400 and when we complained they needed to fix the errors they again refused responsibility and caused my partner a lot of grief over the phone for an hour or so until he became very angry. We were reluctant to engage again and have been very busy with other issues for our new house. 4 months have passed. They demanded the 400 again recently so I emailed and explained that the job and what we already paid for was still not finished. The work they did also did not pass inspection. Wires have been left dangling precariously outside, which they tell me the electric utility company will fix after it passes inspection. I dont know if that will happen, but Adam did come back this week and replaced some wires coming out of the panel so it could pass inspection. This took him 8 hours- so I assume whatever the inspection failed on was a big deal, so I dont doubt that they are capable of making mistakes. We were upset that they hadnt accepted responsibility for the now defunct circuit and cannot provide any logical explanation for the sudden loss of power to our stair light and Im afraid we will likely have to go through some kind of mediation process. It has been really frustrating. The office has done a fair amount of bullying and blaming us. We expected a lot more for the level that we paid them. Im hesitant to write all this as the permit inspection is still pending and we havent decided what our next move is at all. I have my own equipment and I will figure out the light and switch issue with my dad to avoid dealing with them. I dont understand why their business refuses to finish up work and then continues to demand money and drag their feet to complete the work. At least complete the stuff they cannot pass off as not their problem! Its been quite an unpleasant experience. Adam we feel did a great job, but the other people we interacted with were not so professional. As another reviewer noted their technicians seem to be worked very hard, and if the office treats clients who complain this way I wonder how they treat their electricians.
