  • I selected J & B (with others) from Angie's list, got 3 or 4 bids altogether and chose J & B Hardwoods as having the best understanding of what I wanted, for giving me a clear explanation of what they would/could do, and for answering all my questions. Provider name locked. (the owner) looked at the  house, did the measurements and made the bid. The final price was exactly what was bid. We did some of the work ourselves (removed carpet and carpet strips) so those costs were deducted from the bid. Provider name locked. was completely willing to work with me; he and Rindy answered questions I had before, during, and after the job was completed.
I had 2 bedrooms and 2 hallways that had been covered in carpet for decades (and looked pretty awful under that carpet with paint spots, scratches and possible stains) and a living room, den, and dining room that had been refinished 20 years ago but were pretty scruffed, down to bare wood in some places, refinished. The workers were punctual and attentive; they did a beautiful job! The floors under the carpet came out as if they'd never been messed up - no stains showing. They also finished within the estimated time.  The floors were all very old, narrow oak boards. J & B Hardwoods brought them to life - they are truly beautiful! The house feels as though a new, positive energy has been released. It was so worth having the work done! i highly recommend J & B Hardwoods!
Also, they blocked off the kitchen and somehow kept dust to a minimum. There was much less dust in the house than I expected. I had to move the furniture out of the house for the duration; they gave me examples of what others had done and recommendations for movers. I was able to store the furniture in the garage.

  • It was easy to schedule a time with Provider name locked. for him to view the space and he followed up promptly with an estimate.
We had some time constraints for the job. We wanted our floors to be put in before we  moved in. Luckily, Provider name locked. had some availability, and got the ball rolling immediately, promptly ordering the red oak that we needed and giving it time to acclimate. Provider name locked. and Provider name locked. from Provider name locked. team worked on our floors. They were both personable, friendly, and respectful of our space (they had our keys so they could independently manage their schedule and we were rarely on site). Most importantly they did a wonderful job and were patient and helpful as we chose our stain color. Both Provider name locked. and the team were easy to communicate with, and prompt in their responses to texts and/or emails.
It was a pleasure for us to work with Provider name locked. and his team and we would definitely recommend them.

  • It went great. Provider name locked. came out to do the estimate and was great to work with right away. His estimate was slightly higher than two other estimates that we have received, but only slightly higher and we felt it would be worth it based on the level of detail he went into and his apparent passion for working on hardwoods. We had a couple of areas requiring repairs and he was much more positive that he could match the old oak (which he did perfectly), where others doing an estimate made a bit deal about how hard it was to match the wood and made sure to lower our expectations. He also went into great detail on exactly what he would do at each stage, including 3 coats of oil finish with a buffing between each one. The other providers did only 2 coats and they didn't seem as interested in talking about the details.
We first worked out a deal where he would only screen the upstairs fir floors as we were trying to save money. That looked pretty good when done but we decided that the fir floors would look better with a full sanding and refinishing. By that time we had seen how good the downstairs oak looked and we were wiling to pay more to ask him to do the upstairs job over for a full sanding. I hated to ask him but he didn't complain, he gave us what we felt was a fair price for the full sanding upstairs and the old fir looks gorgeous. We are so glad we did that.
There were a couple of times to be honest where we wondered if he was going to get it done on time. We were coordinating with other contractors and needed it to be done by a certain date so other work could complete. I saw them working in there at night a couple of times and it sure enough the got it was completed on time. The oak floors downstairs and fir upstairs all look great, the craftsmanship really shows through. I have recommended them to a friend who was also happy with the work. This was well worth it. We feel we got a much higher quality job than we would have otherwise for only a little bit more.
