  • The procedure was very well organized and executed with the team at Mercy Hospital.  Everything went smoothly, and no complications were encountered.  Since it can take up to 3 months to know if there will be any improvement in my vision, we don't know yet if the outcome will be better sight than before the surgery.
I adhered to all the pre-surgery instructions, and post-surgery restrictions are being followed.

  • The surgical center called me on the Friday before my scheduled date and gave me brief instructions about not eating or drinking after midnight, Sunday night. No alcohol after 6 pm on Sunday, that the parking ticket would be validated and the entire fee would be only $3, no time hourly restraints. I was asked a series of fairly standard questions and then told to report at 5:30 am.
I didn't think much about it until we were underway to the hospital (I already knew where it was) but realized I had not been told where to report! I looked at what the caller ID readout gave me from my phone-- surgical center. Okay. We found the parking garage and followed the signage into the hospital. The only clue I had to go on was from my memory -- surgical center. Okay, E9.
Well, that was incorrect. Some kind of follow-up care area! Luckily a staff housekeeper saw us and escorted us to where we needed to be. We thanked her and I went in and signed up, registered. During registration, the very pleasant woman taking care of the paper work asked me if I'd been told I had a deductible to pay and what it was. I replied and quot; No.and quot; She told me if I paid the same day, I could get a 10%-- but I hadn't known that so I'd only taken my photo ID and health insurance card with me! She suggested that I call her back asap once I was home, or tomorrow, and give me a credit card number-- that way she could still give me the discount.*
From there, a very brief wait in the outer waiting area, then to pre-op where I was processed as a surgical patient even though it was an injection only. Each nurse or P.A. or tech I spoke with was pleasant and easy to cooperate with. Even the two different nurse anesthetists that I chased out-- I wanted a local only! :) were not offended and were ready with a genuine smile.
Once my doctor saw me and marked my hip, the rest of the staff got me to the room for the procedure... in each area, someone made sure I was not cold and helped me cover up if things slid off. The procedure itself went smoothly and rapidly and the nurse in post-op was kind, as well.
I didn't have to wait very long... the nurse who had admitted me came and got me, and we went to the final staging area, where my belongings and clothing were returned to me. She made sure I had something to drink and also that I could stand without any pain or loss of control. She insisted on taking me to the parking lot in a wheel chair and I agreed.
From start to finish, I felt that my movement from area to area during the processing was efficient and thorough and that all personnel I encountered were attentive and aware, focused on their jobs. For my first time being immersed in the environment, I am left impressed and not the least bit fearful. While I would not want to go back for surgery anytime soon, if I had to, I would not be afraid of the way WPH functions if today was a good indication. (And it was busy today, too!)
    * I did indeed call the woman from registration back.. she had written her number down and my account # and the total due. When I got home, I called her and caught her in a registration. She promised to call me back as soon as she was finished. I waited five minutes, and my phone rang. We completed the transaction and she made sure I got my 10% discount, and when I asked if she would mail me a receipt so that I could submit the cost to my FSA account, she said she sure would send one my way!

  • Required surgery for acid reflux. Doctors and surgery were excellent. Post surgical care was adequate at best. Rehab treatments were supposed to be done 4 times per day, never received more than 1 or 2 per day. Was on a non-sugar diet and drinks where the major ingredient was listed as and quot;Sugarand quot; on the label were brought each time. The explanation was that there probably wasn't too much sugar in the drink. Housekeeping never cleaned the room in 5 days. When discharged, the escort didn't have a wheelchair and asked it we wanted to walk to the parking garage ourselves or wait while they tried to find one. Hospital claims it is addressing these issues and has had staffing problems. Hopefully they will.

  • My PCP office and my doctor, Patricia Coyle, is a very good doctor and knows her stuff and listens to her patients. This was for my annual appointment and after I had surgery for hernia repair and we went over my operative report as well.

  • I arrived, check in was quick, and it was only a 20 minute wait to be called back for surgical prep. Everything was on time. I found the nurses and staff to be extra friendly and professional. Communication was good with my husband while I went through surgery and recovery.
My stay in the hospital room was fine, I felt I received excellent care from the RN's and nursing support people. The nurses were caring and helpful. The rooms were very clean and cleaned many times during my stay. I did not really eat that much while I was there, but what I had was fine. Check out took a bit of time, as it usually does in hospitals, but we got out of there in a reasonable time once I was released.

  • I am fortunate to be in overall good health and recognize that an acute issue with an option for full recovery is trivial compared to what many people deal with on a day-to-day basis. With that being said, a pilonidal cyst, particularly having the excision procedure is a miserable miserable experience. I prefer to spare the details in this review.
Dr. Blumberg made this experience as tolerable as possible. He is an excellent physician. Very knowledgeable, compassionate, and able to quickly ease any concerns that may arise. I found him to be very professional and to go out of his way to accommodate my condition and my schedule. I encountered many complications following my excision surgery (none at the fault of Dr. Blumberg) and Dr. Blumberg and his staff were always quick to help and accommodate -- often at an inconvenience to themselves.
I did have one small issue where I was overcharged on my co-pay when having office visits. As soon as this was identified, the office staff was quick to reimbursement me.
I am very happy to no longer be dealing with a pilonidal cyst and would not want to go back to multiple doctor visits per week for months. However, I do miss the enjoyment of interacting with Dr. Blumberg and his staff. I highly recommend Dr. Blumberg and his office.

  • It didn't go so well, so I actually went with another doctor for my surgery. When I went for my diagnosis I went into a big room that didn't look conducive to a hospital atmosphere. The nurse came in and covered me up with a bath towel, so I didn't even have a room to change. She gave me a shot and the doctor walked in with his hair all disheveled cracking jokes. He didn't wait for the anesthesia to kick in, when normally you wait 5-10 minutes, before he told me he was going to check me out with a sonogram. As he was doing the biopsy I felt quite a bit of pain, and he asked why I was moving away from him. Obviously I said it's not a comfortable position to be in. Later when I went back, he told me I had prostate cancer and I started to take notes, because I'm shocked. But as I'm writing and he's talking to me, he tells me to stop writing and look him in the eyes as he's talking. I thought this was completely arrogant of him, as it's my body and he had already devastated me by telling me I have cancer. I can take notes if I want. I didn't like him at all.

  • Dr.Smith did an examination and confirmed I needed surgery.  The office arranged for my blood work and x-ray.  Dr. Smith answered all my questions and described how she would do the surgery.  She made me feel very comfortable.  On the day of surgery, the staff at Jefferson Hospital outpatient surgery were very friendly and efficient in getting me ready for surgery.  Dr. Smith stopped by to make sure all was well.  I went into surgery feeling very good about the outcome.  I feel very confident with this doctor.  Alas, she is giving up her surgery  to become head of the wound care clinic at Jefferson Hospital.  I really like her and I trust her.  She took, good care of me.

  • Dr. Budway is a great, great doctor. Very intelligent, very professional and very kind. She took the time to explain things and answer questions and took great care to make sure that there were no lingering issues. I can't say enough about they way she interacts and treats patients- she is very down-to-Earth. She is extremely busy so it was sometimes difficult to get an appointment and the wait time was somewhat long but it was definitely worth it. I would highly recommend her to anyone (who unfortunately) needs surgery.
