Firewood Company reviews in Pittsburgh

  • I used to have a cord of firewood delivered and dumped in my backyard; then I would proceed to stack it myself. Bob from Admiral delivers the same cord of wood, but it is loaded into gigantic drawstring bags and rests on pallets. When they arrive at our home, a forklift unloads the pallets from their truck and places them neatly under our deck where the stacked firewood used to go. When I am building a fire, I just reach into one of the bags and get what I need. It, in my opinion, is a perfect system, saves my back, and I will always use Admiral every year for my firewood.

  • I had to call a few times (3) to nail down a date and time as they were very busy, once that happened, wood was delivered as promised. I thought the price was a little high for just a half cord dumped.

  • I called Admiral Tree yesterday afternoon and left a message of what I needed. I asked for a cord of seasoned wood pieces about 18 inches in diameter (because I have a Buck Stove and only 18 inch wood fits in the chamber), I also asked if they could stack it for me. A few hours later I received a return call, and the gentleman was lovely. Yes he could deliver all that I asked for. He explained that their seasoned cordwood was already stacked in big plastic bags , they were the perfect size and were already on a pallet. I would need three of these bags to equal a full cord and would I like it delivered tomorrow . WOW! At 9 AM this morning a flatbed truck with three large packed bags were on the back. There was also a forklift on the truck....a small one. It loaded one of the wrapped pallets on the front an just gently rolled down my driveway, which is about 200 feet long and deposited it where I indicated. He went back and got the other two one by one. It was absolutely amazing! I never saw such efficiency in my life. An absolutely brilliant procedure! These people are marvelous and I'm not exaggerating. I plan to have them return in the spring to trim my beautiful giant oak trees. I recommend them highly.

  • Did a very good job of removing 3 trees and a bush and pruning 2 other large tress.  Arrived on time performed the work very quickly and professionally. They used appropriate safety gear while working.  They ground out all the stumps and cleaned up the yard, including neatly stacking the wood that they cut for fire wood. I am very pleased with the work.  Will use Horhut again.

  • Punctual, professional, expert and friendly.  The team came when they said they would and did what they said they would do.  The estimate was accurate.  They took the time to understand the context for the work and to make sure the work they did was complete and comprehensive.  Re firewood:  watch the video posted on their web site.  They have a great technique for bagging and delivering the wood, very efficient.

  • I emailed Admiral through Angie's List to arrange the delivery of two face cords of fire wood.  They responded in short order and a quick phone call later I had placed an order for the delivery of two face cords of wood.  The next day it was delivered and placed exactly where I wanted it to be along the side of my house for a reasonable price.  They use a very unique giant sack attached to a square pallet that holds about one face cord of wood (4' x 8' x 18").  They use a machine to cart it to just about anywhere you need it to go.  The time and effort saved versus having it dumped in the driveway then carting it by hand to the back yard more than makes up for the very few extra dollars spent.  I just found my new wood vendor.

  • Admiral Tree service delivered hard wood - good size for our average fireplace - in large bags on pallets.  The bags prevented the firewood from sitting in the mud while we stacked it.  The service picked up the pallets/bags within a couple of days after we called them to let them know we had finished stacking.  The firewood has a lot of oak, so burns slowly.  Scheduling the delivery was easy and the service was punctual - a far more professional interaction than we've had with other firewood sources.

  • I decided to purchase my firewood from Walnut Ridge Vineyard based on positive reviews from other members and limited reputable alternatives for firewood delivery (I did not want to go the Craig's List route).
The service and responsiveness was fantastic.  I called on Monday or Tuesday and they were able to deliver the wood on Thursday.  Arrived just as planned and they dropped the wood exactly where I asked them to.
However, I am very disappointed with the quality of the wood.  Their website advertises "our wood has been dried for years and will not disappoint you the next time you go to light your next fire".  Well, I've burned 4-5 fires now and every single time I have trouble with the wood.  At first I thought it was just my technique, but the wood hisses and smokes excessively every time.  I have a hard time starting and maintaining strong fires.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend Walnut Ridge for firewood.

  • 1 big load of crap!   Nearly one quarter (1/4) of the load was scrap 'rough cut' from a lumber yard and one quarter (1/4) was scraps of bark, chips, and splinters, with soil and barkdust mixed in.   A large number of 'half-splits that are too big to put in a family room fireplace.  A  lot of wet, ground pile wood.
    Stopped payment on the check!
    Lose this number!
It had been several years since we used this service; now I remember why we stopped.

  • He was very nice to deal with, and he was very honest with me and said that I didn't need a quart, just half a quart would be enough. The wood was a good mix, it was all dry, and burns well. I was happy with the services. The price was fair.
