Gastroenterologist reviews in Pittsburgh

I had origionally saw him to replace my Gastroenterologist who retired. I have had a chronic disease - which has been confirmed by serveral doctors over the years. I had heard both positives and negaties about this physician.
His office staff I can say nothing negative about - they were wonderful. They aer some of the firendliest people I have ever met.
From the moment Sr. Provider name locked. walked in you could tell he did not want to be in the room. Very defensive and very demanding. I have been diagnosed for almost 20 years - I know my disease well.
Origionally there was a plan from the previous office visit as what should be done when I get sick - that immediately went out the window. He does not appear to have a full understand of alternate treatment methods - if it is not in his little rhelm of treatments then it is not valid. Case in point - he tried to tell me that Xifaxin is NEVER used for C-diff - not the reason I was on it. However, arguing with a patient when there are documented studies that have shown its effectiveness expecially when combined with vancomyicine show poor judgement. He actually argued with me telling me I don't know what I was talking about and again the other doctors were wrong. Please tell me how 3 different gastrologist are wrong - one of them was the president of the Pennsylvania Gastrology Association for many years. If Dr. Provider name locked. does not have things his way then he will not follow though on anything that has been talked about.
Furthermore, when discussing other UPMC hospitals he did everything to discourage local facilities and praise UPMC Presbyterian. Which is often overwhelmed and performs poor patient care due to the large influx of patients. I speak this as being a paramedic and taking patients there off and on.
Unfortunatly, Dr. Provider name locked. does not like to listen to his patients - and when he is challenged and questioned by patients he turns in to a whiney child doctor that has the typical UPMC mindset. Meaning - he is right - the patient is wrong and doesnt know or understand their condition and every other doctor is wrong. If you want to go anywhere but the "mothership" UPMC Provider name locked. - he will discourage and insult the other facilities - all in all I would highly discourage patients from seeing this physician.
I will be trying other doctors in the group - I have not had much success with their surgeons or gastro's but there are plenty more in this large groups- Michael R.
