    B&D Guitar Repair
Amazing. I picked up my Les Paul today after Billy only having it 2 days to swap out a pickup, redress the fretboard and straighten the neck. It plays exactly how I always thought it should. You may have to wait a while to get your guitar in, but this man does amazing work. I have been looking for someone with his skills for over 20 years and will not take any of my guitars to anyone else..ever!
He is backlogged by many weeks. Go visit him with whatever you are getting repaired. He will give you the date he can fix it. Don't get frustrated, he is only this busy because he is the best in Arizona. Prices were good and he really cares about the customer and the work he is doing.

Billy adjusted the neck, nut, leveled my fret tops. Billy has done about 12 of my guitars in the past. When he's done, you go into a room and play your guitar, to make sure your happy with it before you leave. When Billy is done, it plays like butter!
Before you put money into it, Billy also checks to make sure you like your guitar enough to spend money on it. He explains in detail what he will do. He is a very busy shop. Which to me is a good sign. He gives you a few choices to make regarding wait time. If you just leave it. It will take a few months. You may also have him write up a work ticket, take guitar home and wait. If you wish to rush it a bit more, just call on a Sunday, talk to recorder, leave name and work order number and he will try to get you in that week.
If your a pro or play out and need a rush, Billy is happy to accommodate. He always does a fantastic job, and is well worth the wait!
Billy has done numerous amounts of work on my guitars. I would not take them anywhere else. Great Job!

    Wes Flinn - RPT

    Hi my name is Jim
This review is about my experience
buying a piano. I have always wanted my
children to learn a musical instrument.
To me the piano has always been the foundation of music. So I wanted my daughter to learn how to play
the piano. I began looking for Baby
Grand Pianos on Craigslist. I found a
beautiful cherry wood Baby Grand for $1000.00, great deal right! Wrong! You see
I knew absolutely nothing about pianos, nothing about the inner workings or how
they should sound. I assumed that my
mechanical background would be sufficient enough for the purchase. I was wrong.
I did not have it inspected before I bought it and did not even take
someone who plays piano along with me to buy it. The gentleman who sold me the piano said that
the strings had been replaced and it had been tuned. I found out later that the work that had been
done on the piano was shoddy work at best.
When I asked him if the piano played correctly, he ran his fingers
across the keys and said yes. That was
the extent of sound checking I did on the piano when I purchased it.

After the piano was in my home, I located a
piano tuner to come tune the piano. The
piano tuner happened to be an RPT, or a Registered Piano Technician, Mr. Wes
Flinn. Mr. Flinn informed me that the
pianos pinblock was so deteriorated that it would never be possible to tune it
without extensive repair. In fact this piano had many more repair problems
beside the pinblock, even if it could be tuned.
So I waited to do the repairs, besides it still played somewhat. My daughter started learning to play piano
and all was well, up until recently. My
daughter has now been playing for about 2 yrs.
She has acquired an ear for the music know, and she started to notice
our piano sounded different from her teachers piano. She noticed ours was out of tune and didnt
sound good. She no longer wanted to play
our piano because it didnt sound good.
I just thought I would relay that story to you the readers, because the
piano may sound decent but once the person learning to play gets an ear for the
correct sound of a piano, a out of tune piano is no longer fun to play on.

    Through conversation Mr. Wes Flinn,
learned that I was a professional and certified mechanic. Wes suggested that I
might be able to do a lot of the repair work myself with some instruction from
him. I decided I would take the
challenge and do the work, believe me it was definitely a challenge. My wife and I had saved $2000.00 to buy all
the parts needed to do the work. Now here is my point, why it is a great idea
to have an RPT inspect the piano you are considering buying. The $2000.00 I
spoke of was just for the parts, no labor had been included. If I had not done some of the work required
myself, the labor alone would have been upwards of $5000.00. Now my great deal piano has gone from a
$1000.00 piano to an upwards of $8000.00 piano just to get it playing and
    sounding correctly. What most people
dont realize is a piano has 88 keys, each piano key has a 5 to 1 mechanical
advantage motor which works to make the hammer hit the string, which in turn
makes the beautiful sound. Each of these
mechanisms has all their own little parts that need to be worked on. Now if you spend 1 min. on 1 key you are
already into the labor for 1 hr. 28 mins.
Now 1 min. on 1 key is absurd, you could realistically spend hours on 1
key. This is why I stress the importance
of having a RPT inspect the piano first before you purchase it. The money you
spend for the inspection know could save you thousands later. So with Mr. Wes Flinns guidance and handling
of the specialized work I could not do, 5 months later we finally had a working
piano. If Wes had not helped me out of
this sticky situation the overall purchase and repair cost of my piano would
have cost me around $8000.00. I
basically could have bought a new piano. Mr. Wes Flinn knew I did not have this
kind of money and with his big heart agreed to help me fix my piano. If he had not helped me out of this disaster,
I would have lost all my original purchase cost, would still be without a
piano, and wouldnt have learned all I
know about pianos now. There would be no
happy ending to this story. As it stands
my piano plays beautifully, I think Wes even impressed himself with this
one. There are no complaints from my
daughter. Although I still have to fight her to
    practice. Some things never change.

Mr. Wes Flinn is a RPT or
Registered Piano Technician and very well respected in his field. I would recommend his services to anyone who
wants a quality job done. Wes is a true
craftsman. His work has true integrity
and he puts a lot of pride into his work, a quality that is sorely missing in
todays services. Wes has a love and true
passion for the piano and it shows through in his work. His
website is a book about piano maintenance at www.WesFlinn.com. Be sure to read the part about inspecting
    pianos before you buy them!

Today's service was a scheduled maintenance tuning of my piano, which type service follows a full refurbishing of this piano finished 18 months ago. I find that tuning my piano about every 6 months makes it sound fine for my purposes. This service usually runs about $150 or less, depending on the condition of the piano.
The original refurbishing service went like this:
I own an 85 year old Gulbransen upright piano. I decided that I needed to finally take better care of it and I knew it definitely needed tuning. So, I got on the Web and looked for piano tuners. There were a number of them, but one in particular caught my eye. Wes Flinn had an amazing website with not only contact information, but loads of information about taking care of a piano, tuning, repairs, buying and selling, storing, and lots of other things. After browsing around his website, I gave Wes a call and asked him to come over and take a look at my piano to see what it might need. I knew after that first meeting that I had made the perfect choice. Wes is incredibly knowledgeable about every imaginable aspect of piano . We talked for quite some time about what my piano needed to get back up and running. I knew I didnt want to buy a new piano...this one had lots of family history and emotional connections. I knew I couldnt afford to completely restore it to exactly what it had been in 1925 when it was built. So, I decided what I wanted to do was refurbish my piano and turn it into a true working antique. I wanted to keep its antique looks, but have it really play well like it did originally. Wes gave me a number of options as to what could be done and what absolutely should be done to accomplish that mission.
The journey began. Wes arranged for the piano, now known as Ms. G (short for Gulbransen, her manufacturer), to be taken to his shop, as the work needed was extensive and would have been very difficult to undertake at my house. As the work proceeded, Wes was very faithful about sending emails with pictures as well as calling periodically to let us know how the work was proceeding. Ms. G needed many new parts a well as a lot of cleanup. She also needed work done on her outside finish, as she had been a bit battered around through the years. Wes replaced the bass strings, miscellaneous felts, the hammers, the dampers and various other things. He also fixed some of the parts that just needed repair rather than replacement. The action was regulated and lubricated, and the keyboard recalibrated. In sum, all the working parts were made to function properly like they did originally, and the finish was refurbished to simulate
the original look of the piano.
Finally, after leaving home for a two month stay in Wes Flinns piano spa, Ms. G. returned home, and wow, did she look and sound terrific. Her first song was the Star Spangled Banner! Then on to Chopin and Beethoven! Ms G had gone from a down and battered flapper from the 1920s to a Charleston kicking Radio City Rockette working antique! She can play anything now from Beethoven to Rag-time!
    Come on Elton John!
I was so glad I chose Wes to help me with this project.
He is the best!!!We continue to stay in touch, of course, because now that Ms. G is in the best shape she has been in for at least 50 years, I want to keep her that way. Wes will be helping with that, every step of the way.

    Culp's Piano Service
The move went very well. I left a message for Mr. Culp Friday late afternoon. He returned my call Saturday morning and was able to do a same day move due to weather. He arrived right on time, completed the move, tuned the piano, and reattached the pedals. I was very happy with the friendly, professional service and will definitely be using Culp Piano Service in the future.

    PRECISION GUITAR
They are an excellent company. I use them all the time for different instruments. This last occasion was for my guitar and they did an excellent job. I can't say anything bad about the experience that I had. The guitar works and sounds great.

    LINTON-MILANO MUSIC
I received an estimate of $140 for repair of the sax and was told that it would take 2 weeks to repair. The repair person was very insistent that many adjustments were necessary for the sax to play correctly, and that he could not repair in under 2 weeks. I did not have service performed at Milano's. I brought the sax to Quick's Music in Phoenix, where the sax was repaired FREE, while waiting less than 20 minutes. It is hard to believe that I was not being ''punished'' for not purchasing the instrument at this store, given the tone and discussion from the prior evening. I will not return to this store for purchase or repair.

    AMERICAN MUSIC
The deal was fairly phenomenal. I checked several places and was told either that they don't rent large brass instruments or that it would cost $75-95/month to rent one. We weren't sure that my daughter would keep playing, so we didn't want to commit to a long term rental. At Music & Arts Center, they give you the instrument for a 2-month trial period for about $20, then the monthly rate goes up to $63. As is turned out, we only had the horn for 3 months, so it worked out great. Their selection of sheet music, by the way, is small but very interesting. The place has a good feel.

    J Thomas Davis Guitar Maker
I originally brought in my 6-string guitar for repairs, and they advised me not to repair it, because the cost of repair was close to the cost to replace the guitar with a new one. I appreciated their honesty, and did not fix that guitar. I found them to be honest, reliable, extremely prompt with estimates, and quick to perform repairs (they repaired my 12-string guitar). I felt that they have a sincere commitment to quality workmanship and instruments.
