"First, Dr Shareen runs a very efficient office. You enter your medical history, insurance, and billing online prior to the appointment." No forms on a clip board to complete on your lap. There's one big plus already. When I arrived at the office I signed in and sat in the waiting room. In 5 to 10 minutes the receptionist called me up and took my driver's license and insurance card and scanned them right there. I sat back down and in another 5 minutes I was called to the back and was sitting in an exam room. About 10 minutes later Dr came in to begin the exam. She went through all the necessary tests, put drops in my eyes to dilate them and went out to back waiting room. After about 15 minutes, she called me back into the exam room and completed the exam. She told me I have cataracts developing and said I can do elective surgery now or wait for a couple of years. I opted to wait. My first impressions of Dr was she was kind and effective but slightly business like. She cared as a doctor and was effective in her communication and spent time with me. I didn’t feel a warm fuzzy that I would expect from a doctor, especially with me experiencing cataracts for the first time. She did give me a choice for elective cataract surgery and once I said I would wait for the surgery, she was done, and went on to the next patient. I only wish she would have left with I will see you in a year or if you experience any eye problems, call me. I left feeling like a one hit wonder. Would I go back, maybe. The office is efficient and you can get in and out quickly. Overall I had a pleasant experience.

"Everything went so great. The process put in contact with a few different providers. The first guy did a basic exam and put in the drops to dilate her eyes. We had" to wait 20 minutes for her eyes to dilate, and then the second person checked our daughters eye prescription. And then Dr. P. came in, verified her prescription and did a little exam. Not only did she explain to me WHY she was recommending glasses for my one-year old, she took the time to answer all my questions. She even had her assistant come in and play with my daughter so we could talk without being interrupted. Dr. P. took the time to show me what my daughter sees (using various lenses) and explained the science behind why it's important she has glasses, and why we haven't noticed eye problems in her (ex: her dextarity is good, she can walk and is meeting all normal milestones). Dr. P. also took time to discuss the struggles of getting an infant to wear glasses and shared some ideas on making sure it was a success. She told me if it's still a struggle after a few weeks, to come back in for help from her. I felt so confident after this exam that we were making the right decision to get glasses for our daughter (unlike after the initial exam with my own eye doctor who didn't take time to explain her diagnosis or answer my questions). We will be moving our daughter's care to Dr. P. from here on out. After the exam, we got our daughter fitted for her glasses and the optician was so friendly and helpful.

floaters are bits of matter that float in the vitreous (jelly-fluid) center of the eyeball.  Short of contraversial surgery, nothing can be done about them.  They are harmless but can be extraordinarly annoying;  anyone bothered by them should get checked by their optomologist, however, to make sure the floaters are not a symptom of a more serious retina problem however.  There are online websites and online info. about floaters also...

Absolutely you have rights to your own medical records. You may have to put it in writing and go through the offices records department. Call and ask to speak with the records department and ask their protocol.

Pediatric Ophthalmology reviews in Philadelphia

I've been seeing him for the past 12 years. I've been using him for my son. He was born with glaucoma in one eye and he did a surgery on him and my son is 12 years old and he's doing really good with the eye. He can see everything. He was four months old when he did the surgery. Everything was good. He couldn't see from one eye and ...More he used to have a lot of pressure on that one eye and he released the pressure, and now he plays outside. He was really good. They are really, really nice. They call you to the house to make sure you're doing okay after the surgery and I've never seen that to others. I would recommend them.

Dr. was really great; friendly, interactive, and perceptive. My daughter really enjoyed seeing her which helped improve the accuracy of the test results. (It's not always easy to get a 4-year-old to answer truthfully, "Which looks clearer, #1 or #2?" It was clear they had a packed schedule, and the doc worked & ...More spoke quickly, but we were *not* rushed while in her care. My daughter was given the time she needed to take her tests and answer questions.
The waiting area is really small! which on a messy, snowy day was not the most comfortable. But the building itself is beyond fancy and the exam room was clean and nice.
The reception & admin staff were courteous and efficient, and when my daughter was getting sleepy between exam phases (which would compromise the exam results) they had lollipops at the ready.
I wasn't sure where best to categorize this, but by far the biggest beef I had with this office was in the initial scheduling. It took me four separate days of calling multiple times a day to get a person on the phone! We were ready to give up on this office when I finally got through. Once I was speaking to a human, availability was not an issue; we got an appointment within 2 weeks of the first call. But man, was it tough to get that human. It might have been the time of year? (It was pretty close to Thanksgiving holiday) but still... The only reason we kept at it was the seeming lack of highly rated pediatric-focused optometrists & ophthalmologists in the city (or at least those that identify as such on Angie's List).
That said, once we were in, I'm glad I was persistent. This office absolutely met our needs. Even if they are not the cheapest. And boy, they are not.
- Katharine G.

I sat there for over an hour to get in. They had problems scheduling. Dr was beligerant with patient. They also charged me for parking, they don't validated parking. I ended up leaving after the horrible experience and now I need to go to the emergency room to have my eye checked out.
- Suzy S.

He is an excellent doctor and a very good one. He was referred by our paediatrician. He is very patient with the children and very patient with explain what is going on. He has a good manner with children. He is a very good doctor and good with kids. He is competent. We had no issues and problems with him.
- Jerri H.

It was a smooth appointment. Dr. was efficient and was able to get the information he needed quickly, which meant minimal squirming and complaining by my son. He was not overly chatty and was primarily interested in getting the job done. All in all I would come back again if we still lived in the area.
- Sarah J.

They are great with kids! They use newer technology and state of the art and new. Also, everything is on the iPad. Scheduling an appointment is easy and they even have evening hours which is great for the children.
- Kadee T.

Eventually, Dr. had to open tear duct in operating room at Valley Hospital Outpatient Surgery Center... I am a recovery room nurse and have lots of experience w/surgeons postoperatively...I wish all of the surgeons I work with could be as competent, pleasant and professional as Dr. . I highly recommend him.
- Maria D.

Although he is a pediatric ophthalmologist, I want to let others know that Dr. is also a specialist in adult strabismus. He performed a surgery on my eyes, and straightened them completely. After 28 years of having this problem, and going to other 'strabismus specialists' who did not listen to me, or my needs, finding ...More Dr. was like finding water in a desert. I cannot tell you how much his operation on my eyes has changed my life. My sight is great, and my self-confidence is through the roof. I cannot recommend him highly enough. This doctor is a miracle worker. I want to clone him. :)
