Psychiatry reviews in New York

  • I recently moved to New Provider name locked. City and have just started the Provider name locked. for a new psychiatrist. I do not plan to return to Dr. Provider name locked. (if I can find another psychiatrist before I run out of medication) because I felt that her intake interview was very cursory and skipped over important parts of my psychiatric history. The follow-up appointment was too short to add any further depth to her scant knowledge of my situation. I've been seen by multiple psychiatrists and therapists, none of whom has ever raised the possibility that I might have ADD. While that doesn't mean that I don't have ADD, I'm skeptical that someone who comes to that conclusion based on a brief and superficial conversation has insight that others who've spoken to me for hours and hours and hours don't have. (I should also mention that I was a straight-A student in school and in college.) The fact that she was willing to prescribe a strong stimulant drug, known to be highly rewarding and addictive (it's a form of amphetemine), on so little evidence is also disturbing to me. (I didn't fill the prescription.) In her favor, I will say that her interpersonal manner is sympathetic and friendly. Maybe I've been lucky, but that's the least I would expect from a mental health professional. I'm going to look for someone who will take more time and pay more careful attention before subjecting my brain chemistry to a new drug.

  • I promptly got an appointment. She took me in early. I had a friendly yet professional conversation about the relevant issues. She asked reasonable questions and seemed to really be listening. She made a recommendation for a moderate change then re-evaluation after one month on new medication. It was a very rational and gradual recommendation.
