Physical Medicine reviews in New York

  • I was very satisfied with their care and the personnel and facilities (the equipment and also locker rooms to change). The therapist also gave good guidance on whether I should continue on my own or whether I needed more therapy - this was very valuable to me.

  • Application for intake was tedious, and required bureaucratic finesse in order to get all the information MSKCC requested.
1st meeting: Dr.fury was gracious, and continuous to be encouraged.

  • He is a physiatrist so he treats the whole body in any way possible so you can avoid surgery as long as possible.  He listens better than most any doctor I have encountered.  He looks at the whole body instead of just looking at specific areas, and he understands why one problem can affect another part of the body.  He is in two locations.  The staff is friendly but they make errors in scheduling and appointments.  He shakes your hand as soon as you walk in and he looks you in the eye.

  • When I called for an appointment, the receptionist gave the available dates of  the two doctors at this location. There was a much longer wait for the doctor that is the well-known head of the firm and an expert in sciatica, so I chose Dr. Wilkins. The receptionist said "you won't be sorry."

    She was right.

I am not insured and was worried about paying the Park-Avenue-level quoted price for initial consultation and still getting a rushed visit, or worse, being subjected to an expensive one-size-fits-all cookie cutter program that some more famous Manhattan doctors are known to end up promoting.  Especially after already spent a considerable amount on a course of acupuncture, x-rays and several visits with a physiatrist and her physical therapists  in another borough.

My consultation and exam with Dr. Wilkins instead turned out to be all that I hope from a doctor and rarely find anymore. It was a full hour or more of compassionate and highly comunicative medical history taking and symptom recording, a physical exam where he really seemed to be trying to get clues about my problem the old fashioned hands-on, bedside way, and a discussion of options for proceeding given my financial situation, as well as prescription for physical therapy that could aid in clues for diagnosis and prescriptions for two inexpensive medications which are helping the pain every day and I believe may also be aiding in recovery. Afterwards I did research on all that was prescribed and found it to the level of the highest standards.

He seemed to me to be one excellent doctor, the kind you cannot find anymore. I feel that if he cannot help me, then it's probable that no one can.

I should add that I am the type that believes in researching my own medical problems and think providers who do not appreciate that input from the patient should be avoided. I felt completely comfortable with Dr. Wilkins on that front and also was pleased to find that the entire practice has a healthy open attitued using many forms of alternative medicine as well as practicing traditional medicine.

Please note that my B grades are for the office-related questions. Though my treatment is not complete, I truly feel that Dr. Wilkins deserves and A on all fronts so far.

  • I used this place regularly some years ago and was very pleased with the treatment. The Chiropractors were very effective and the massage therapy that accompanied the adjustment was very effective and helpful. The place is run very efficiently, I never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen. This is very handy as many people go during work hours or lunch hour and you are in and out in no time. Billing is done seamlessly through insurance. I know the doctors I used are no longer there so I can't speak to the quality in 2010 but I was very happy with it, when I did go. The front office staff is very personable and efficient.

  • He was great. He was quick and had a great attitude. He is very upbeat and positive. He is not alarmist. He is super expensive and I really like him a lot. He works to get people back in shape naturally instead of going with medicines. His office was so so but they took me right away.

  • I have had a ludicrous number of operations and things, and this last time was a hand operation. She got me up and functioning. I had been to a number of physical therapists recommended by other surgeons. When I found her facility, I found that the range of things that she offered worked for me. Her people assign a lot of home work. I found that when I am doing something and it didn?t feel right, I could call her as the doctor and get feedback that would inform how I was supposed to do what I was doing, which is nice. If I was just going to a physical therapist and I was done with the surgeon, and I don?t have a doctor as an umbrella who is a physical therapist doctor, who understands what is involved in the process of having ligaments and tendons heal, which has always been my problem, it would have not been beneficial to me. She knows her stuff. I am 63 and I have been studying anatomy since forever - it is like breathing for me because I am a portrait painter. I know how everything hooks up but not how it works when it is injured. There are different healing stages that I never appreciated before - I do now. Certain things heal before other certain things, and I can?t push it, else I would distort the healing in the area. Her greatest gift is patience and a little bit of a lecture from time to time. She is good at that. She has really excellent people in there. I have never ever had a bad experience, and I have worked with almost everybody in her facility. At any given time she has got 5 or 6 people. There is a constant flow and it never feels crowded, and part of it is by virtue of the design of the space. It is a comfortable kind of place and is a very reassuring environment. I call her when she is at the facility. That was a huge find. I don?t call her at her home. I have called her maybe 2 or 3 times over the years when something just didn?t mesh. She was able to pull up my records, look at them and walk me through things. The cleanliness of the place is astonishing, and that is pretty important for physical therapy. I would rate her highly except for one thing - her availability. Once I get assigned to someone, although I don?t have to stick with that person, it tends to be easier to work with the same every time. I know them and they know me and my foibles. Those people do not obviously work 7 days a week. They usually work a 3- or 4-day week, and I have to accommodate to them. This is not a problem if I am willing to work with different people. Dr. Podhorodecki is a fairly young woman. She has a growing family, etc. She is not always there, nor do I expect her to be. She does have people there, and if there is an emergency, she is a phone call away. That to me is a big thing. I would continue to use her in the future.

  • Dr. Joe is very gifted at neurosoma massage. This technique is like no massage technique that is being practiced. It should be considered something other than massage work because unlike swedish massage or so-called "deep tissue" massage you will not only feel better when you leave his office but your body will continue to feel better after the lactic acid has been removed from the muscle spindles and flushed through your liver. In my opinion it is very important to understand the basic physiology behind what is happening in your body as a result of this massage work. For the first three or four days after you receive neurosoma treatment you will feel sore as the lactic acid that has been trapped in the muscle spindles gets released and enters your blood stream. Your body will produce histamine as a result of the massage and this can also cause some soreness. However, after your body has adjusted to the affects of the treatment you will, day by day, start to feel better and better and more and more pain free. This technique works like nothing you have ever experienced before without drugs and without a regimen of special stretches that you have to do at home. It helps the body heal itself. Getting worked on by Dr. Joe is as easy as telling him where you are feeling pain, lying on his table and having him perform the massage technique (work). I am still amazed and indebted to Thomas Griner for developing this technique and also indebted to Dr. Joe for learning how to perform it.

  • Dr Bartoli checked my range of motion every six weeks as a result of my physical therapy. What she did was oversee the treatment of my herniated disc. Dr Bartoli is first rate and very professional. I would absolutely use her again.
