New York Flooring Installers Reviews
We received 4 estimates from contractors in Long Island, Queens, and Brooklyn. A lot of them wanted to charge us the "Manhattan" price, which is inflated about 30%. and in as short a time as possible. Also, our entire apartment was filled with furniture and clothing so
So we arranged for the work to start 4 days after the estimate, gave half of the payment up front as deposit, and work commenced.
If I had to complain about anything,
Also, during the estimate,
They came in and looked at the job and told me there was a minimum of $700.
I had told them it was a small repair.
They thoroughly wasted my time.
They showed up every day early, worked until their job was done, and cleaned up. They were careful about not damaging
anything in the apartment. In short, the floor looks beautiful. Their new flooring matches my original flooring perfectly and
you cannot tell where one starts and one ends. They did a much better job than the general contractor who originally
installed my floor about 7 years ago - I wish they had done my whole apartment!
I highly recommend
I used to own one appartment, and we decided to renovate the kitchen. Living in Michigan most of the year, and not knowing any contractor in the city, not being aware of angie's list, we hired Kitchen. What a disaster... I gave them a key, came back after 6 weeks, they did only demolition which would take only one day... I was so disappointed. Every little thing that came up, they were asking more money... They made me signed a contract where I had to pay almost all of the money, before they even finish the half of the work... We were on the call arguing all the time...Then I bought the apartment down stairs, and decided to combine both... They suddenly became nice to me hopping that they would get the work for combining both. Then I found out angie's list and asked couple of general contractors to bid the work... That is how I met with

Thank you again, for the great job!
I am very pleased and will use them again. Didn't know you could get a floor refinished in such a short time.
guy. He cares about the quality of the work being done in his name and was very responsive when we had issues. Overall we're happy with the way our apartment looks now, and the work he did probably increased the value of our apartment considerably.
On top of all that, two days after installing the toilet one of his men accidentally damaged it and it had to be replaced.
When we had a serious problem with the hardwood flooring (more on that in a minute) he agreed that it needed to be replaced, agreed to upgrade us from unfinished to prefinished flooring and did the work at zero cost to us, other than the inconvenience of having to pack up half our apartment and vacate for two weeks. He did the right thing.
When he presented his proposal, it was detailed and itemized, which was more than some of the other people we interviewed did. We understood what every single aspect of the work would entail and cost. There were no "surprises."
THE NOT SO GOOD:
The renovations were done during the summer of 2012. Our building has central A/C, which was not working properly when the work was being done. The hardwood flooring began to warp, separate and buckle within weeks of installation. The entire floor had to be ripped out and replaced.
We had numerous problems with the new kitchen cabinets.
We had a breakfast bar put in. The bar itself looks great but it's being supported on the living room side by two brackets that would be better suited to a garage. They painted them to try to make them look better, but they're still pretty unattractive.
The wiring in the kitchen was left as-is. When we installed our new microwave we discovered that we can't use it and any other small appliances at the same time or we throw the breaker. A separate line for the microwave would have prevented this.
While moving our appliances to do the kitchen, they damaged the fridge door. It happens. They tried to get the panel replaced but were unable to get a matching one. We still have the panel with the big scratch in it.
We had a sliding pocket door installed in our daughter's bedroom, which is actually a converted dining room. The door latch they put in had no knob on the outside of the door, which we considered a fire hazard. We had to get
A small personal item went missing during the renovations. It wasn't anything expensive but it was in a drawer and then one day it was just gone. I told
I guess this is common among contractors but getting a phone/e-mail response was not always easy. Sometimes we wouldn't hear anything for days. They would make appointments to come to our apartment and show up hours late or not at all. The job, which was supposed to take five weeks, took nearly a year and technically they still aren't done, but we haven't heard from them in nearly three months. We still owe them roughly $7,000, which I guess they're willing to eat. I'm sure they've already lost money on us with having to replace the entire floor. There are some final bits of work that I guess we'll have to find someone else to do.
As I said above, I was very happy with
